I restarted the game because I wanted to try some different skills/techniques and have been doing quests and things in maybe not the most logical order. Well I waited quite a while before going to the Dwarven Bread Inn and came from the east side => met the drunkards wife before him and avoided being pickpocketed. -neat!- i thought... Then I went in and did the barfight and headed to the back to get the dwarven teleporter scroll. Lo and behold there was no scroll on the table and no dwarf either... but there was a ... dog?! not only that but as soon as I entered the room the dog ran up to me and I chopped him up with no targeting or attacking action done on my part! I think the dog had the dwarf's name also (havent seen many dog's with names and this one had one... cant remember it now tho) needless to say I reloaded and tried again with exactly the same results! the approach I made to the inn or waiting longer or going straight there makes no difference just a room with a dog. this is upsetting because I was enjoying this character and had made quite a bit of progress... any thoughts on this matter? thx

IIRC, the dog is not the dwarf. you should trie spending the night somewhere and then checking back. And I believe you can get the scroll anyway, so without the dwarf.

The dog's name is Lar, IIRC. He may start off as hostile towards you; he attacked me, but I'm not sure if I had killed any other dogs, or wolves within sight of a dog, before that point. The dwarf eventually leaves the inn.

Lar! that was his name! was bugging me trying to remember. hehe, guess my ideas about a polymorphing dwarf were unfounded. Thanks for setting my mind at ease. Since I'm pretty obsessive about getting all possible quests/reputation points guess i'll be starting over again. Good thing this game rocks or i'd probably be a bit frustrated about now. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

The scroll may still be on the table in the inn after the dwarf leaves, otherwise there is one in the dwarven mayor's house and the dwarven king will give you one after completing a quest.

I remember that dog. I waltzed into the Town Hall, chatted to the Dwarf, took the scroll, and went wandering. I came back later to use the teleporter and was attacked by the dog. I though it strange at the time but didn't take any real notice of it. Maybe it's just an irate dog.
