am gonna say it again, if the game turn into rtwp it better be OPTIONAL or they will have to refund everyone

I bought a turn base game. this disruption is leading no where. the game will never be rtwp

Seems like a self-serving post on your part, because NO ONE has even suggested, let alone requested or demanded, replacing TB with RTwP.

Nope, if I wanted RTWP I'd wouldn't play Larian games. I'm playing Larian games for TB.

Does that go the same for the original fallout games and The elder scrolls games? Or how about the grand theft auto games that were top down. Should we go back to Mario when it was a flat platformer but is now a bigger wider genre of it own. BG2 is over 20 years old, its gameplay is not antiquated, but its future can be bright, and is in the hands of Larian. I personally think it's gonna be a good future.

But to being it back to baldur's gate specifically. What about baldur's gate, makes baldurs gate?

Nuclear fallout in the 1950's makes fallout.
Tamirel and all its races make The elder scrolls.
Rise to riches in the criminal world makes GTA.

Whats makes Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate?

I don't think there's an easy way to summarise BG other than that it is set in The Forgotten Realms but having said that there are plenty of things absent from BG3 that were a part of the original games; off the top of my head:

-6 Person Party
-Day/Night/Weather Cycle
-Calendar/Clock
-Random Encounters
-Classes feeling specialised (rather than any class can use lock picks, scrolls, etc.)

On the flip side, there are many obvious similarities or copycat mechanics/design from DOS incorporated in BG3 which further remove the sensation of it being a Baldurs Gate game.

Existing turn-based functionality needs to stay in, even if it is only an option. If the game goes entirely RTwP, I would politely ask for a refund.

I prefer DA: Inquisition's battle system. Real time battle with pause option and tactic planning+camera. Plus, no matter the number of enemies, it doesn't slow down combat.

Das Schwarze Auge was always turn based.
Baldurs Gate was always RealTime.
Thats how we used to play it and how we liked it.
Now they butchered BG with turn based.
Give me RealTime back. I would refund if it wasnt that you cant find review a RPG game with only 2 hours.

A random thought I had. Is it possible that we're seeing a swing from RTwP to TB, for whatever reason? I mean, DOS II sold extremely well, Solasta is turn based, The next Pathfinder game will have TB as an option from the word go, and PoE II added a TB option after launch. It's definitely suggestive of a trend towards TB games from RTwP ones in the RPG space, so why not make BG III follow the trend, especially since Larian has made successful TB games before now?

Personaly i think that the majority of BG1+2 Fans could live with Turnbased if the rest would be kept in spirit. But sadly the game violates BG1+2 so hard in basicaly EVERY Area. The Change to TB is the most obvious at the first look. But if you are more opend minded and give it a try it becomes worse and worse..... from OVERDONE environmental ground hazzards, to Party size, to shallow character progression, to ridicoulus Jumping, to abundance of Health food (in combat even) so healers are totaly obsolete...... the list is almost ENDLESS.

In fact.... if they change the game to RTwP it would still not be a Baldurs Gate game. So the whole point is not making alot of sense.

D&D is turn based, RTWP is turn based behind the scenes but you need to obsessively pause every split second making it no different from turn based anyway if played out as strategically optimally as possible, as it stands larian's turn based system is way more D&D esque than RTWP ever managed to be IMO

RTWP doesn't really add anything other than creating the possibility for players to mess up micromanaging their party by not obsessively pausing, at least that's what it's been in my experience.

Turn based is the way forward. I recall the mess that RTWP makes of combat in other games and do not miss it.

My two cents (82 pages down; probably means nothing).

Initiative and turn order is a major mechanic in D&D - even with the same spells and abilities, going to a system that doesn't use those seriously changes the game. If you want to be as close to 5e as you can, battles have to be turn-based.

Where I think the problem is in the current system is that some characters can go turn-based while others remain in 'real' time. This allows the real-time characters to interfere in combat in ways that are impossible for (and exploitative of) turn-based mechanics. When any character goes turn-based, all of them should. This can cause problems if you split the party and deliberately want to keep some out of combat because it becomes tedious to pass their turns every time they come around, but there are ways to make that easier. Like having an ''automatically end turn' toggle.

This is nonsense. If you are "obsessively" pausing every split second, then at least be honest and admit this is your personal failing and not one of the system, because the rest of us who like RTwP are not playing our games that way at all.

Im not a massive computer game player and im also not a Dungeons and Dragons player. I am however, a huge fan of the original Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 and they were one of the few games i have invested lots of time into.

I was very excited to see BG3 being released and stupidly spent 50 odd EUR buying it without much investigation. Up comes the first fight and the mechanics are awful. Despite starting as a fighter after 10 turns on both my character and the female one not 1 hit was registered on the enemy whilst they missed with every hit except spells . Why would I want to hit attack each turn and then wait x amount of time whilst each enemy also has a swing and a miss. Am i missing something or is there a way i an just let melee combat flow until i decide to change something? Even when mages get involved I still would rather let the turns flow smoothly and then pause and give mages an action when I feel the need

It feels nothing like the original games and sadly i believe this will be 50 EUR down the drain. I always enjoyed the original pause system where I could set the actions of each character and let it play out and react..

Really hope that they decide to offer a real-time option some time in the future.
