After making a thread detailing the chronology of every D&D game based in the Forgotten Realm campaign setting, I have decided to do something more ambitious. A lot more ambitious. This time, I am going to make a chronology list of every Forgotten Realms novel, game, comic book and sourcebook, if they fit into the timeline and don't contradict much or nothing in the Forgotten Realms lore. Anyway, I'm going to start from the very beginning, several eons into the past of the Forgotten Realms.

"Evermeet: Island of Elves" (By Elaine Cunningham) ((Release date: March 1999), (In-universe date of novel: From -30000 DR to 1371 DR))

When Evermeet comes under massive, devastating attack, her sacrifice holds the last hope of saving the elven homeland.

Fun fact: The novel reveals the origins of Lolth and how she became the Spider Queen and made the Drow elves fall to the Underdark

"Sword Play", "Dangerous Games" and "Mortal Consequences" of The Netheril Trilogy (Written by Clayton Emery) (Realm Year: ((Release dates: May 1996 for "Sword Play", November 1996 for "Dangerous Games", and January 1998 for "Mortal Consequences"), (In-universe dates of novels: -700 DR for Sword Play, Dangerous Games begins on -700 DR after Sword Play but jumps to -339 DR, and Mortal Consequences goes back to -700 DR because the main characters travel through time.)

Sword Play synopsis: Thousands of years before the Age of Elminster, dragons ruled the skies of Faerûn, and elves dominated the huge forests that covered the land. Only in the mighty, magical empire of Netheril was the place where men were a force to be reckoned with. Bored and haughty in his midair castle, the Netherese mage Candlemas bets fellow wizard Sysquemalyn that a certain barbarian who has caught his eye can survive the most savage tests his friend -- and deadly rival -- can devise. The only rule: The tests must offer the subject some chance to survive, however slight. Of course, "playing fair" is a concept as alien to the wizards of Netheril as "mercy." But the subject of their wager, Sunbright Steelshanks, a Barbarian of the Rengarth Tribe, has a mind -- and a will -- of his own. And Candlemas and Sysquemalyn are not the only players in this lethal game of swords and sorcery

Dangerous Games synopsis: Netheril, empire of magic, where wizards wield power far beyond the ken of mortal men. Netheril, where citadels float, magic runs wild, and mages dabble in games better left for the gods. Netheril, a place of dangerous games where the barbarian Sunbright Steelshanks soon finds himself an unwilling pawn in a lethal match of wits, wiles, and powers.

Mortal Consequences synopsis: The Netherese Empire will collapse in five generations. A forgotten foe, armed with a hell-spawned source of destructive magic, returns to seek her revenge, and a lost love is found in a most unexpected place. Against a backdrop of war and chaos, the barbarian Sunbright struggles to carve out a niche for himself -- and his people -- in a rapidly changing world.

Chapter 22 of Cormyr: A Novel (1018 DR)

"Timeless" (By R.A. Salvatore) ((Release date: September 4th, 2018) (Part 1 and Part 3 are in 1018 DR))

Story synopsis: Centuries ago from 1488 DR, in the city of Menzoberranzan, the City of Spiders, the City of Drow, nestled deep in the unmerciful Underdark of Toril, a young weapon master earned a reputation far above his station or that of his poor house. The greater nobles watched him, and one matron, in particular, decided to take him as her own. She connived with rival great houses to secure her prize, but that prize was caught for her by another, who came to quite enjoy the weapon master.

This was the beginning of the friendship between Zaknafein and Jarlaxle, and the coupling of Matron Malice and the weapon master who would sire Drizzt Do'Urden.

Fun fact: This novel details the friendship between Drizzt's father Zaknafein and Jarlaxle, and parts 2 and 4 take place 4 centuries into the future of the 5th Edition time period.

"Boundless" (By R.A. Salvatore) ((September 10th, 2019), (Flashback scenes are set in 1018 DR after Timeless))

Story synopsis: Split between time and two worlds, Zaknafein had always been conflicted. That inner turmoil was magnified by his inferior position as a male dark elf in the matriarchal drow society. Only his status as one of the greatest warriors—as well as his friendship with the mercenary Jarlaxle—kept him sane. When he finally perished, he was content knowing he left behind a legacy as substantial as his son Drizzt.

Except...someone isn’t ready for Zaknafein to be dead. And now he’s back, hundreds of years later, 1488 DR, in a world he doesn’t recognize. His son’s companions are not the prideful—and bigoted—males the drow warrior was accustomed to in his previous life. Drizzt’s circle includes dwarves, elves, and, perhaps worst of all, a human wife.

Struggling to navigate this transformed new world, Zaknafein realizes that some things have not changed: the threat of demons and the machinations of a drow matron no longer content with her family’s position in the ranks of Houses. Though he has been displaced in time, Zaknafein is still a warrior. And no matter what prejudices he must overcome, he knows he will do his duty and fight by Drizzt’s side to stem the tide of darkness that threatens the Realms.

Story synopsis of Icewind Dale: In the Year of the Cold Soul, 1281 DR, six adventurers arrive in Easthaven of the Ten Towns in Icewind Dale to be recruited into an expedition led by a man named Hrothgar to Kuldahar, where some disturbances have been reported. After an avalanche caused by frost giants kill Hrothgar and most of his expedition, the six adventurers are the only survivors left who can continue to Kuldahar and find out what evil plagues the small town in the mountainous regions of the Spine of the World.

Story synopsis of Heart of Winter: The adventurers that saved Kuldahar and all of Icewind Dale from the demons of the Nine Hells, meet an elderly barbarian named Hjollder, the shaman of the Tribe of the Bear in Lonelywood of the Ten Towns. Recently, Hjollder received a vision that a deceased king of the barbarian tribes of Icewind Dale will come back from the dead to lead a bloody war against the people of the Ten Towns, and the only ones who can go to the land where the Tribe of the Elk and Bear dwell and reason with the resurrected barbarian king to stop the imminent bloodshed is the six adventurers who saved Kuldahar.

"Homeland" of The Dark Elf Trilogy (By R.A. Salvatore) ((Release date: December, 1990), (In-universe date of novel: begins 1297 DR on Drizzt's day of birth))

Story synopsis: Drow ranger Drizzt Do’Urden, first introduced in The Icewind Dale Trilogy (The Crystal Shard, Streams of Silver and The Halfling's Gem), quickly became one of the fantasy genre’s standout characters. But Homeland first reveals the startling tale of how this one lone drow walked out of the shadowy depths of the Underdark, leaving behind a society of evil and a family who want him dead. It is here that the story of this amazing dark elf truly began.

Fun fact: Viconia DeVir from the Baldur's Gate games is related to the drow of House DeVir. Matron Mother Ginafae was her last surviving sister (Viconia states in Shadows of Amn that she used to have 14 sisters, and most of them died, some by her own hands), and Alton was her nephew. However, just because Viconia is related to Ginafae and Alton, don't expect her to be mentioned in the novel. The truth is, Viconia was long gone from the Underdark decades before Drizzt was born and a few years before Alton was born. Alton DeVir was 55 years old in 1297 DR, which means Ginafae gave birth to him on 1242 DR, and Viconia was exiled from the Underdark sometime before 1242 DR, leaving Ginafae the only daughter of House DeVir's original Matron Mother to rebuild the family from the ground up having her own children.

Swords of Eveningstar story synopsis: This series explores the youthful adventures of the much-loved heroes, Florin Falconhand, Islif Lurelake, and Jhessail Silventree. They are the defenders of all that is good and decent in the Realms. A rollicking band of companions, the Knights of Myth Drannor have adventured their way down through the legends of Faerûn, clutching a royal charter from King Azoun himself. In the picturesque village of Eveningstar, nestled at the foot of the Stonelands, the Knights of Myth Drannor began. Now, for the first time, here is their story: the battles, adventures, love, and death that brought together the band of the greatest adventurers the Realms have ever seen.

Swords of Dragonfire story synopsis: The kingdom of Cormyr is in need of heroes. Only the bravest and most loyal stand a chance in the trials to come. Standing tall against the darkness that besieges their homeland, a band of youthful adventurers answer that call. They are the Knights of Myth Drannor.

The Sword Never Sleeps story synopsis: The Knights of Myth Drannor have come far from the pastoral comfort of their home in Espar. Chartered by the king and knighted by the queen, they have earned the name of adventurers. But do they have what it takes to be heroes? The noble knights thus far have defeated both dark magic and treachery, but true heroes do more than stumble across victory. True heroes are relentless in the pursuit of evil. The true hero's sword never sleeps.

"Pools of Darkness" both the game and novel (the game was developed by Strategic Simulations Inc., playable on Amiga, MS-DOS, Apple Macintosh, and NEC PC-9801) (Novel version is written by James M. Ward and Anne K. Brown) (Release date (game): 1991 (novel): February 1992)), (In-universe date of game and novel: Both set in 1350 DR))

Novel synopsis: The entire city of Phlan has vanished, ripped from the surface of Toril by dire creatures and magical forces. While the minions of the evil god Bane bicker over the spoils, the brave citizens of Phlan mount a stubborn defense. A ranger-thief named Ren seeks his missing friends, Shal and Tarl, spellcasters nonpareil. Ren must band together with a mysterious sorceress, Evaine, and her intrepid shapeshifter cat, as well as a couple of droll druids and a fearful knight who is absolutely, positively dead.

Fun fact: The novel version is more canon over the game version because the game version makes it clear that it is supposed to be set after "Curse Of The Azure Bonds" and "Secret Of The Silver Blades", being the final game of the Pool of Radiance series made in the late 80's to early 90's, and the game reveals that Bane has been manipulating Tyranthraxus and the evil forces that haunted the game version heroes in "Secret Of The Silver Blades", and player characters can be imported to these games from "Pool of Radiance", and canonically, the "Curse Of Azure Bonds" game should take place AFTER the "Azure Bonds" novel, and "Azure Bonds" is in 1357, seven years after Pools of Darkness. So since Alias hasn't been created yet, Tyranthraxus should not know about the Azure Bond curse around this time, which is why the game version can't be canon.

With the help of a mysterious stranger, the boy escapes his village and escapes out to sea, stowing away on the pirate hunting ship, Sea Sprite, where he comes across a most unlikely ally: the dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden. With a half-demon determined to destroy him, and a crew of sailors resentful of the trouble he's caused, Maimun must find the courage to prove his worth, both to his friends and to himself.

"The Crystal Shard" of The Icewind Dale Trilogy (Written by R.A. Salvatore) ((Release date: January 9th, 1987), (In-universe date of novel: Begins in 1351 DR))

Story synopsis: Akar Kessel, a weak-willed apprentice mage sets in motion events leading to the rediscovery of the magical device, the Crystal Shard. But is it merely an inanimate device... or is it capable of directing the defeat of Ten-Towns? Or have the barbarians already arranged for that themselves? Their brutal attack on the villages of Ten-Towns seals their fate, and that of the young barbarian Wulfgar. Left for dead, Wulfgar is rescued by the dwarf, Bruenor, in exchange for five years of service... and friendship. With the help of the dark elf, Drizzt, Bruenor reshapes Wulfgar into a warrior with both brawn and brains. But is Wulfgar strong enough to reunite the barbarian tribes? Can an unorthodox dwarf and renegade dark elf persuade the people of Ten-Towns to put aside their petty differences in time to stave off the forces of the crystal shard?

Fun fact: This is R.A. Salvatore's first published Forgotten Realms book back in the late 80's, and it is the book that introduced readers to Drizzt and his companions for the first time.

Fun fact #2: Originally Icewind Dale didn't exist in the Forgotten Realms, Salvatore made it so that he could get started writing The Crystal Shard. Originally he wanted Wulfgar to have a crossover with Douglas Niles' main characters from "Darkwalker on Moonshae", but WoTC told him they don't allow an author's character to have a crossover with another author's character. When WoTC gave Salvatore a prototype map of Faerun, he struggled trying to figure out where to set his first Forgotten Realms novel. He asked WoTC if he could set his story in Cormyr, but WoTC told him he couldn't because Ed Greenwood was writing a novel set there ("Cormyr: A Novel"), and Salvatore couldn't set his story in the Sword Coast either because WoTC had plans on setting some adventures there, so Salvatore started setting his sights further and further north, and when he asked WoTC are there any towns or cities north beyond the Spine of the World, WoTC didn't give him a clear answer because they hadn't confirmed that there is anything in the northern regions of Faerun yet, and so Salvatore jumped on their uncertainty and claimed "This is where Icewind Dale is! Now leave me alone!"

Fun fact: This upcoming game is a spiritual successor of Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance and Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2, but ironically, this game is chronologically set nearly two decades before those games.

Fun fact #2: The reason why I strongly believe this upcoming game is after The Crystal Shard is because I found a game article that says so, it confirms that it is 100 years before Baldur's Gate Descent Into Avernus and after The Crystal Shard, because Catti-Brie apparently in the trailer she is using her longbow Taulmaril which she almost stops using after 1372 DR, so that rules out the game being set anytime close to Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance, and Bruenor is wearing his helmet with the broken right horn which he always wore before he reclaimed Mithril Hall and became its king.

"The Legacy" and "Starless Night" of the Legacy of the Drow series (By R.A. Salvatore) (1357 DR)

The Legacy story synopsis: Life is good for Drizzt Do'Urden, better than it ever has been for the beleaguered dark elf. His dearest friend, the dwarf Bruenor, has reclaimed his throne, and his adventuring companions, Wulfgar and Catti-brie, are to be wed in the spring. Even the halfling Regis has returned. All the friends are united in the safety and prosperity of Mithral Hall, where streams of silver mithral run deep and dwarven hammers bang out the solemn rhythms of ancient and unending songs. But Drizzt did not achieve this state of peace without leaving powerful enemies in his wake. Lolth, the dreaded Spider Queen deity of the evil dark elves, counts herself among them and has vowed to end the drow's days of pleasant security.

Starless Night story synopsis: The Underdark. A place of brooding darkness, where no shadows exist, and where Drizzt Do'Urden does not wish to go. The noble dark elf must return there, though, must go back to find his friends in the gnome city of Blingdenstone, and on to Menzoberranzan, the city of drow. Only then can Drizzt discern what perils might reach out from that dark place to threaten his friends in Mithril Hall.

"Azure Bonds" of The Finder's Stone Trilogy (written by Jeff Grubb and Kate Novak) ((Release date: November 1st, 1988), (In-universe date of novel: 1357 DR))

Story synopsis: Her name is Alias, and she is in big trouble. She is a sell-sword, a warrior-for-hire, and an adventuress. She awoke with a series of twisting, magical blue sigils inscribed on her arms and no memory of where she got them.

Determined to learn the nature of the mysterious tattoo, Alias joins forces with an unlikely group of companions: the halfling bard, Olive Ruskettle, the southern mage, Akabar, and the oddly silent lizard-man, Dragonbait. With their help, she discovers that the symbols hold the key to her very existence.

But those responsible for the sigils aren't keen on Alias's continued good health. And if the five evil masters find her first, she may discover all too soon their hideous secret.

Fun fact: This trilogy of books are the ones that detail the origins of Alias and her saurian paladin partner Dragonbait

Story synopsis: Day breaks, and the crowing of a distant rooster wakes you from an all-too-short sleep. Another day of adventure, you think as you arise - but then you stop short. You, and all your companions, have an elaborate blue tatoo covering most of your sword arm! And there's more to these marks than a drunken prank. As you try to find out the source and the meaning of your new adornment, you are drawn further and further into danger and mystery. Will you become a pawn in somebody else's power game, or will you fight for your freedom and individuality?

Fun fact: Alias and Dragonbait appear in this game, and the tabletop version is canon because the PC game version is supposed to take place after the Pool of Radiance game, and according to the official Forgotten Realms timeline, there's no way that can happen, Alias wasn't created yet in 1340 DR.

Fortunately, the famous halfling bard Olive Ruskettle and a mysterious and talented mage named Cat are determined to help. But when betrayal and enchantment threaten Giogi's progress, he must invoke the spur's awesome might... or become its next victim!

"Siege of Darkness" of the Legacy of the Drow series (R.A. Salvatore) ((Release date: 1995) (In-universe date of novel: 1358 DR))

Story synopsis: "Let the damned drow come!"
All about me I saw excitement, in the dwarves, in Catti-brie, even in Regis, the halfling known more for preparing lunch and nap than for war. I felt it, too. That tingling anticipation, that camaraderie that had me and all the others patting each other on the back, offering praises for the simplest of additions to the common defense, and raising our voices together in cheer whenever good news was announced. What was it? It was more than shared fear, more than giving thanks for what we had while realizing that it might soon be stolen away. I didn't understand it then, in that time of frenzy, in that euphoria of frantic preparations. Now, looking back, it is an easy thing to recognize.

It was hope.

"Shadows of Doom" of the Shadows of the Avatar Trilogy (By Ed Greenwood) (1358 DR)

Story synopsis: It was the eve of the Time of Troubles. The chaos of spilled blood, lawless strife, monsters unleashed, and avatars roaming Faerûn was still to come. The gods were about to be summoned to a reckoning, and among them was Mystra, goddess of all magic. She knew it was likely she, along with the other gods, was about to be stripped of godhood. Yet to shatter governance over magic would mean ruin for the world she loved. So Mystra made certain preparations, looking always for a worthy successor . . . yet until the Ascension of that worthy one, her power must be preserved.

A lone mortal must carry the greatest share of her divine energy, the silver fire, until the mantle of magic could be reclaimed. It was the fate of this mortal to risk being destroyed or driven wild, without warning.

It was Elminster's Doom.

Fun fact: This game is one of the first RPGs that tried to combine simple hack-and-slay style with puzzles. The story is unusually simple, with the player-character just walking around the town and its surrounding area, solving some puzzles and fighting action sequences, while trying to find treasures and weapons. Unlike most role-playing games, there aren't any randomly generated monsters to battle, combat only occurs in Hillsfar's arena. This game's story has no significance in the Forgotten Realms, this is a bland, boring game, but it does have a place in the timeline, though.

Story synopsis: The adventurers who were once under the azure bond curse has been magically summoned to the mining town of New Verdigris, located in a valley deep in the Dragonspine Mountains, in hopes that they will save the town from the overwhelming evil that threatens it.

New Verdigris is located on the ruins of a much older city that was suddenly covered by a glacier three hundred years ago. However, the glacier is now receding, which led to the town being re-established and the resumption of mining operations. While New Verdigris initially prospered, three months ago, a new mineshaft was opened and monsters began pouring through from an unknown source.

Previous efforts to stop the monsters have failed and they have made it to the ruins and are threatening to invade the town. The party is the town's last hope of finding the source of the evil and clearing the scourge.

Story synopsis: The lords of the city of Waterdeep have grown concerned with mysterious happenings within the city. Luckily, Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun looks into lords' concerns — that an unknown evil poses a threat to Waterdeep. There are rumors of assassins wondering the streets, so the mage visits both Amn and Calimshan, as such places had given Waterdeep issues in the past. He, however, finds no evidence of devious plots outside of Waterdeep, and believes such evils must be coming from within. Arunsun's informants are clear on one thing — the word Xanathar recurs with great persistence.

The wizard uses his mages to detect evil, but cannot locate its exact source. After this, Khelben writes to Piergeiron the Paladinson, Open Lord of Waterdeep. He warns that the evil must be coming from inside Waterdeep, or more, under their very noses. Khelben returns to the council and tells Piergeiron to hire adventurers to look where they haven't — under the city. The council holds a ceremony, and write up an official document known as the commission and letter of Marque, and sends the adventurers away to prepare.

Two days before the adventuring group are due to search underground, the captain of the guard intercepts a drow scout that is spying on the council. Under interrogation, the drow reveals the disturbing plan of an evil beholder (who had recently teleported the elf to the surface). The spy reveals that the beholder crime lord, Xanathar, inhabits the lowest parts of the Waterdeep sewer system. The guards confiscate the drow's package of information, and Khelben sends it to the adventuring group.

With the official document, basic adventuring gear and a package of information, the adventurers enter the city's sewer system. As they descend, the entrance gets blocked by a sudden collapse, all planned by Xanathar.

Fun fact: The commission and letter of marque given to the player by the Lords of Waterdeep at the beginning of the game confirms the timeline

Story synopsis: Shortly after the heroes defeated Dran Draggore and returned to Waterdeep, the heroes tell the patrons of a local tavern about their success over Dran Draggore and how it saved the town. Afterwards, a mysterious man enters the tavern and asks the heroes to save the ruined city of Myth Drannor, which is ruled by a Lich named Acwellan.

The mysterious man then tells the heroes that they need to save Myth Drannor by getting an ancient artifact from the Lich known as the Codex. After the heroes accept the quest, the mysterious man teleports the heroes just outside Myth Drannor.

"The Grand Tour" Limited edition comic book (Written by Jeff Grubb, art by Todd Fox, ink by Steve Kurth and Steve Mitchell, color by Les Dorschiied, letters by Mike Malkovas and edited by Thomas Reid) ((Release date: January 1996), (in-universe date: Pages 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 are possibly in 1360 DR, a lot of traveling through time and space in the Forgotten Realms is in this book))

Story synopsis: It has been many years since Diana, Sheila, Bobby, Preston, Eric and Hank were somehow transported to the world of Dungeons & Dragons when they were kids. Now, they are adults and they have arrived in the Forgotten Realms, and Preston seeks to become Elminster's apprentice, hoping to learn a magic spell that can send them back to their home realm Earth. But first, Elminster takes Preston on a tour through time and space, visiting different locations of the Realms at different time periods.

Fun fact: The kids from the 1982 Dungeons & Dragons cartoon show, Hank, Sheila, Diana, Eric, Bobby and Preston (Except their pet unicorn Umi, they had to leave her in the main Dungeons & Dragons realm) appear in this comic book, much older than they were in the cartoon show. Bobby, who was 8 years old in the show appears to be early or mid 20's in this comic book with a full beard and almost as tall as Wulfgar! Preston wants to be Elmister's apprentice, and accompanies him on a tour around the Forgotten Realms by journeying through time and space, so this comic book is not anchored to one time period. The reason why I placed the first half of the comic in 1360 is because Preston had heard about Azoun Orbaskyr IV's heroics stopping the Tuigan Horde at Thesk.

After making off with the amulet, he flees to the woods, being closely pursued by de Effer and his companion, Beatrice.

The assassin, with holy symbol in hand, fights off de Effer and Beatrice, but being wounded in the previous fight with Lord Dhelt, he eventually falls. The two adventurers search his body and find four possessions: the amulet, a note, and two evil artifacts. The assassin's note explains that he required certain items to be able to destroy Strahd von Zarovich, the ruler of Ravenloft. Strahd had subjected those of the assassin's home to doom and eternal captivity, and only with these items could he free his people. One of those items was the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind, and even though he did not wish Dhelt to come to harm, he had to do everything he could to acquire the amulet.

The heroes, artifacts in hand, begin their trek back to High Hall. However, on their way back, darkness and fog encircle them, taking them to the haunted woods outside of Barovia, in the Demiplane of Dread.

"Passage To Dawn" (By R.A. Salvatore) (Release date: September 1996), (In-universe date of novel: 1364 DR))

Story synopsis: "Six years. Not so long in the lifespan of a drow. And yet—in counting the months, the weeks, the days, the hours—it seemed to me as if I had been away from Mithral Hall a hundred times that number. The place was another lifetime, another way of life, a mere stepping stone to... To what? To where?

I ride the waves along the Sword Coast now, the wind and spray in my face. My ceiling is the rush of clouds and the canopy of stars; my floor, the creaking boards of a swift, well-weathered ship. Beyond that lies the azure blanket, flat and still, heaving and rolling, hissing in the rain and exploding under the fall of a breaching whale.

Is this, then, my home?"

"The Grand Tour" Pages 18, 19, 20, 21 (1364 DR, around the same time as "Passage to Dawn")

Fun fact: Elminster and Preston arrive in Skullport in 1364 DR. I know the timeline without a doubt because when they meet Qilué Veladorn of the Seven Sisters, Elminster tells Preston about Drizzt to prove his point that not all drow are evil, mentioning that a few years ago Drizzt triumphed at Mithral Hall fighting against the drow, but lost Wulfgar, and he stated that Drizzt is currently hunting pirates along the Sword Coast aboard the ship known as Sea Sprite, which means Elminster and Preston are no doubt visiting Skullport in the Year of the Wave.

Realms of the Dragons 2 Story #3 "The Hunting Game" (By Erik Scott de Bie) (Flamerule "July" 1364 DR)

The question is, are they really the hunters, or are they the hunted?

Finder's Bane story synopsis: When Joel became a priest of the new god Finder, he knew it meant forfeiting the honor and security of his position as a master bard. Now his freedom and his very life are at stake as powers of evil embroil the priests of Finder in a struggle against a plot to resurrect the dead god Bane. With his only allies the young freedom fighter Holly Harrowslough, the mysterious winged woman Jas, and the aging priest Jedidiah, Joel embarks on a mission to recover the Hand of Bane. His quest leads him from the Realms all the way to the extra-planar city of Sigil. There Joel must rely on all his courage, wisdom, and strength to thwart the return of Bane the Tyrant and rescue the god Finder from imminent death.

Tymora's Luck story synopsis: Before the Dawn Cataclysm, Moander the Darkbringer corrupted Tyche, Goddess of Luck. In a desperate attempt to preserve Tyche's goodness the gods clove her in twain, creating two daughter goddesses: Tymora, Lady Luck; and Beshaba, Lady Doom. In the eons since then, the two sisters have existed in total enmity. Now a great power has hatched a mad scheme to re-create the goddess Tyche by reuniting Tymora and Beshaba, regardless of the potentially calamitous consequences.

In a decision fraught with godly intrigue, Joel, The Rebel Bard, priest of Finder, is chosen to uncover whoever is behind the abduction of the sister goddesses. Aided by his old allies, Holly Harrowslough and Jas, and his new friend, the kender Emilo Haversack, Joel must find a way to prevent the merger of Tymora and Beshaba before disaster overtakes the luckless Realms.

Fun fact: The reason why I did not include the second book of The Lost Gods Trilogy is because it is a Dragonlance novel called "Fistandantilus Reborn", Volume 2 of the Dragonlance Saga's Lost Legends series by Douglas Niles, and this list is meant to chronicle most, if not all of the novels, comic books and games in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting.

"Undermountain: The Lost Level" of the Dungeon Crawl tabletop game trilogy (By Steven E. Schend) (1368 DR)

Story synopsis: "Far be it from me to impugn the mettle of adventurers such as yourselves, but daring the depths of Undermountain merely for fortune's sake is more absurd than kicking a sleeping dragon in the nose for sport. Even so, you've returned for another trip to the Underhalls, so be prepared. You stand to enter the Lost Level this time—gird yourselves for diplomacy as well as destruction. You'll find the last stronghold of an extinct dwarven clan—do be good enough to extend the greetings of the Blackstaff to Bandaerl. "Wickless in the Nether" (Realms of the Dragons and The Collected Stories: The Legend Of Drizzt) (1368 DR)

Story synopsis: In the short story, Salvatore describes the first encounter between Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle and the famed copper dragon sisters Tazmikella and Ilnezhara of Heliogabalus, Damara in Year of the Banner, 1368 DR. This event is referred to in Road of the Patriarch, when Entreri reminds Jarlaxle that the dragons sisters played them for fools. In the story, Tazmikella, appearing as a plain shopkeeper, tells of how an item of great sentimental value is in the possession of Ilnezhara. Tazmikella hires Entreri and Jarlaxle to steal this item, but soon they find out their foe's power is beyond their comprehension when they find out she is an ancient and powerful copper dragon. Ilnezhara then commands the two to go and kill Tazmikella for her in return for allowing them to live. After this encounter, they journey to kill Tazmikella and find out not only is Tazmikella Ilnezhara's sister, but also a copper dragon of great power. Jarlaxle and Entreri agree to work for the two dragon sisters, and Jarlaxle willingly enters a romantic relationship with Illnezhara, much to Entreri's extreme disgust.

"The Black Pits" (Developed by Beamdog) (1368 DR, weeks or months before the game version of Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition) This mini game isn't canon to the original edition of the Baldur's Gate game

Story synopsis: Six adventurers along with many others are unwittingly and unwillingly sent to an Underdark gladiator fighting pit hosted by the drow Baeloth the Entertainer, where they must fight various monsters and other captured adventurers for their lives to the entertainment of Baeloth and his drow spectators... or die trying.

"BALDUR'S GATE" the game and novel (Game originally developed by BioWare, the Enhanced Edition version is developed by Overhaul Games of Beamdog, playable on PC, iOS, Android, Linux and current gen consoles) (Novel version written by Philip Athans) ((Release date of game (Original): December 21st, 1998), (Enhanced Edition for Microsoft Windows): November 28th, 2012, (Enhanced Edition for iOS): December 7th, 2012, (Enhanced Edition for OS X): February 22, 2013, (Enhanced Edition for Android): April 17, 2014, (Enhanced Edition for Linux): November 27th, 2014, (Enhanced Edition for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One): October 15th, 2019), (Release date of novel: July 1st, 1999), (In-universe date of game: Starts on 1 Mirtul "May 1st" 1368 DR))

Game story synopsis: The young human/elf/half-elf/dwarf/halfling/half-orc simply known as Gorion's Ward has been raised by Gorion himself in the secure walls of Candlekeep for 20 years along with a human girl named Imoen, having never been outside the walls of Candlekeep and seeing what's outside. Gorion's Ward and Imoen know nothing of their past, about who their parents are, and for some reason Gorion is waiting for the right time to tell them. But when a mysterious man in demonic body armor named Sarevok forces them to leave Candlekeep by sending assassins after them, Gorion's Ward and Imoen must leave the seemingly safe walls of Candlekeep and figure out what evil plagues the Sword Coast, poisoning iron, making it difficult for novice adventurers to find good weapons and armor, and farmers finding good farming tools, and along the way, team up with seasoned adventurers that they can trust.

Fun fact: The game version and its sequels are more canon than the novel versions believe it or not, because the novel is not only unfaithful to the game, it also contradicts many details of D&D's lore, and even the game's own storyline (trust me, I've read the novel). For example, the Baldur's Gate novel claims that the Iron Throne is a splinter group of the Zhentarim. But the 3rd edition sourcebook "Lords of Darkness" refutes the novel's lore. The Iron Throne was actually founded by a tiefling woman named Sfena. She was the daughter of Glasya (the demon princess who rules Malbolge of the Nine Hells) from the "Brimstone Angels" novels, which makes Sfena the granddaughter of Asmodeus himself. Sfena founded the Iron Throne 21 years before the Baldur's Gate game's story in 1347 DR, and she had absolutely NO connections to the Zhentarim. During that year, when she arrived to Faerun from the Nine Hells, she was somehow captured by storm giants and they prevented her from escaping into the Nine Hells by transforming her body into a crystalline substance. The reason why she created the Iron Throne is because she needs to produce a super rich mercantile organization and trade the organization off to a devil in exchange for a cure for her condition. These details perfectly correspond to the reason why she would sanction Rieltar's plan to make the Iron Throne rich by instigating a shortage of iron in the Sword Coast and keeping all the pure iron to themselves so people will buy their stock of iron.

Fun fact #2: Another severe contradiction in the novels is that Sarevok runs the Iron Throne alone. His foster father, Rieltar, and the other two guys, Brunos and Thaldorn are absent in the novel. The game makes it clear that Sarevok has no interests in the business practices of the organization, and that the Baldur's Gate branch of the Iron Throne fell to ruin under his control with the Iron Crisis leaders dead, but in the novel, the Iron Throne somehow prospered fine under Sarevok's leadership. And ironically, in the part of the novel that is based on the chapter of the game where Gorion's Ward must return to Candlekeep to spy on the leaders of the Iron Throne, Abdel goes back to Candlekeep even though as I pointed out before, Sarevok's foster father and the other two guys do not appear in the novel, Sarevok is the sole leader, and technically there is no meeting in Candlekeep even though Abdel goes back to Candlekeep for the same reasons Gorion's Ward does from the game. And a certain corrupt Flaming Fist officer named Angelo (those of you who played the game should know who I'm talking about) is a Grand Duke of Baldur's Gate in the Baldur's Gate novelization. That is seriously wrong, because sourcebooks like Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast have no record of ever having a Grand Duke by the name of Angelo, there was only Entar, Liia, Eltan and Belt (Belt and Liia never appeared in the novelization, they were both replaced by Angelo). A novel giving a D&D character who only appears in the D&D games a title that should make him/her noteworthy in the sourcebooks is a terrible idea and seriously hurts that novel's credibility as a canon story.

Fun fact #3: However, the game version of Baldur's Gate is not entirely flawless. There is a side mission in the Cloak Wood forest where you have to choose between helping a man named Aldeth Sashenstar and his fellow hunters slay a group of druids, or help the druids slay Aldeth and his hunters. If you choose to aid the druids and kill Aldeth and his hunters, Dabron Sashenstar shows up in Baldur's Gate hunting for "Gorion's Ward" to avenge his "brother". The truth is, according to the sourcebook "Power of Faerun", Aldeth and Dabron are not brothers, Aldeth is Dabron's uncle, and though it is canon that Aldeth gets killed, the sourcebook does not say who killed him, so it is debatable on whether "Gorion's Ward" or the druids are responsible for his death. But one thing for certain is Dabron learns about his uncle's death from a divine vision by the deity known as Shaundakul, and Dabron returns to Baldur's Gate around the year 1372, the year the Neverwinter Nights game happens, because he was nowhere near the Sword Coast around 1368, and he tries to rebuild the Merchant's League after all the ruin they've gone through, trying to cope with Aldeth's death and being financially ruined by doppelganger creatures working for the Iron Throne during the iron crisis four years ago. Later in 1374, the year Neverwinter Nights 2 and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance happens, Dabron is tasked by the Grand Dukes of Baldur's Gate to go out to Sembia (the nation on Faerun where the Iron Throne originated), hunt down and arrest the remaining bosses of the Iron Throne. And believe it or not, Dabron finds and arrests Sarevok's foster father, Rieltar Anchev, who should have been killed off in the Baldur's Gate game. I can only assume that the Rieltar that died in the game was a doppelganger, not the real man, which means Rieltar likely had arranged a contingency plan against Sarevok if he ever did something to prove his disloyalty, because according to Sarevok's journal in the game, Rieltar warned Sarevok that if he ever betrayed him, he will end up like his foster mother, choked to death by garrote wire, but apparently Sarevok was unfazed by the threat (deep down he was angry about it), he was never loyal to Rieltar, and I think he knew it.

Fun fact #4: The two knights who fight alongside "Rieltar" and Brunos in Candlekeep if you choose to fight them, Tuth and Kestor, are important figures of the Knights of the Shield. Kestor is a half-elf like Khalid, Jaheira and Neera, who sells silks, textiles and spices as a merchant in Baldur's Gate, he is not just an agent of the Knights of the Shield, and he has had a tense rivalry with Aldeth Sashenstar. Tuth is a higher ranking agent than Kestor. The reason why you gain more EXP for defeating him is because Tuth is no common agent of the Knights of the Shield, he is part of the Shield Council.

Fun fact #5: Even if you consider the novel not canon, there is one character from the Baldur's Gate novels that you must consider canon because he appears in the "Murder of Baldur's Gate" tabletop adventure game which takes place approximately 114 years after the first Baldur's Gate game. That character is Abdel Adrian. But don't worry, you can consider your game protagonist and Abdel as two different characters because of their vastly different backstories and the year they were born, there is plenty of evidence to support an argument that they can be seen as two different characters. Abdel was not rescued by Gorion, he was rescued by a paladin who brought him to Gorion, and he was born in 1343, which should make him 25 years old in 1368 DR, and he left Candlekeep in 1360 DR, and he has seen much of the Sword Coast over the past 8 years, he has even been to Amn once. The game protagonist "Gorion's Ward" should be 20 or 21 years old during the time the first Baldur's Gate game happens, which means he/she should be born around 1347 or 1348 DR, and the narrator at the beginning of the game states that "Gorion's Ward" has lived in Candlekeep for most of his/her life, he/she has never been outside Candlekeep's walls until the game's story starts.

Fun fact #6: Khalid, Jaheira, Montaron, Xzar, Xan and Yeslick appear in the novelization, but Philip Athans for some reason decided not to include Imoen, Minsc, Dynaheir, Branwen, Coran, Safana, Shar-Teel, Ajantis, Alora, Edwin, Viconia, Faldorn, Garrick, Kagain, Kivan, Skie, Tiax, Quayle and Eldoth in the novel. A lot of people were mad that Minsc didn't appear in this novel, and were even more mad that Minsc appeared in the sequel, but was given red hair and a beard. It felt as if Philip Athans did not respect the source material.

Fun fact #7: Tamoko, Sarevok's girlfriend is mentioned in the Rogue's Gallery column of Dragon magazine #262. She was born in 1350 DR, which makes her 18 years old in the game.

Fun fact #8: In the game, you eventually learn in Sarevok's journal that a year ago, the Iron Throne were banned from doing business in Cormyr. The game doesn't say why, but the reason why the Iron Throne were banned from Cormyr is because they were suspected of hiring assassins to kill the owners of a rival merchant company from Archendale. Guess what? Archendale of the Dalelands was going to be a location set in the long ago cancelled original Baldur's Gate 3, "Baldur's Gate 3: The Black Hound".

"Empty Joys" Best of the Realms, Book 1 Story 15 (By R.A. Salvatore) (1368 DR, sometime after "Wickless In The Nether" and before "Promise of the Witch King")

Story synopsis: Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle, having journeyed for some time together working as bodyguards and bounty hunters, join a band of poor highwaymen for Jarlaxle's entertainment. They spend nearly two tendays (two weeks) with the group, capturing the baker Piter McRuggle, before the band's thugs bring in two young women as captives. Jarlaxle and Entreri turn on the group, soundly defeating them; Jarlaxle insists that they also free the young women and return them to their families. Afterwards, Jarlaxle briefly meets with Kimmuriel Oblodra to receive a new magical hat and eyepatch and plans to find Entreri a woman.

"Promise of the Witch-King" (By R.A. Salvatore) ((Release date: October 25th, 2005), (In-universe date of novel: 1368 DR))

Story synopsis: The book was hidden well. Its pages promised the power of the Witch-King himself. And now that it’s been found, even the fact that it kills anyone foolish enough to crack its cover won't stop people from fighting over it.

Welcome to the Bloodstone Lands!

Human assassin Artemis Entreri and his dark elf companion Jarlaxle have come to the demon-haunted wastelands of the frozen north at the request of their dragon patron. It doesn't take long for them to find themselves caught in the middle of a struggle between powerful forces that would like nothing more than to see them both dead... or worse.

But Entreri and Jarlaxle aren't just any wandering sellswords, and the ancient evils and bitter blood-feuds of the wild Bloodstone Lands may have finally met their match.

Fun fact: Zhai the half drow, half wood elf girl, one of the main characters of the game "Demon Stone" is briefly mentioned in this book, which means Demon Stone is canon

The Assassin

A cold and emotionless killer for whom every soul has a price, even his own, embarks on a path to find out just how high that price can be.

The Mercenary

A dark elf of limitless guile dares to challenge a king, and carve for himself a place in the inhospitable World Above.

Ilnezhara and Tazmikella are ancient copper dragons of great power, accustomed to easily manipulating the humans around them. But not all humans are so easily led. Baldur's Gate the game canonically ends sometime in Marpenoth of 1368 DR

Fun fact: The Siege of Dragonspear Field Report pdf officially confirms which month Sarevok's plans were exposed to the people of Baldur's Gate and defeated by Gorion's Ward, and it all canonically happened in Marpenoth (October of Faerun's calendar), which means Gorion's Ward has been journeying around the Sword Coast, doing most of the side quests (Tales of the Sword Coast side quests included) and investigating and fighting the Iron Throne for five months!

"BALDUR'S GATE (part 2): SIEGE OF DRAGONSPEAR" (Developed by Beamdog, available on PC, Android, and with the console releases of BG1:EE/BG2:EE) ((Release date(s) (Windows, OS X, Linux, iOS, Android): March 31st, 2016, (Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One): September 24, 2019), (In-universe date of game's story: Intro begins and ends on Marpenoth "October", the rest of the game picks up sometime after Uktar "November" of 1368 DR and goes forward from there))

Story synopsis: After defeating the last of Sarevok's followers, the city of Baldur's Gate can celebrate their victory over Sarevok and the Iron Throne thanks to the heroics of Gorion's Ward and his/her companions! However, a new conflict is brewing north of Baldur's Gate. A crusade led by an aasimar woman named Caelar Argent is causing wanton destruction, and they set their base of operations in Dragonspear Castle itself, the site where the first and second Dragonspear Wars happened! She claims that her goal is to open the portal that was sealed during the second Dragonspear War and save the souls of the people who died during those wars from being tormented further by the demons of the Nine Hells, but is that what she is really trying to do? Gorion's Ward and his/her companions, along with most of the Flaming Fist soldiers must travel north to Dragonspear Castle, meet up with the armies of Waterdeep and Daggerford and stop Caelar and her crusade from unintentionally starting a third Dragonspear War!

Fun fact: Despite some of the negative opinions surrounding this game, its placement in the chronology is important to the journey of Gorion's Ward because it explains how he/she ended up being with Minsc, Dynaheir, Imoen, Khalid and Jaheira by the time Shadows of Amn starts, how Viconia knows Gorion's Ward by name when she sees him/her in Shadows of Amn even if he/she didn't meet her in the first Baldur's Gate game, and this game reveals what forced Gorion's Ward to leave Baldur's Gate at the end, which has been hinted at in Shadows of Amn's intro ever since the original edition back in 2000. Shadows of Amn's intro hinted that Gorion's Ward was forced to leave Baldur's Gate on very bad terms, especially since the people and authorities of Baldur's Gate found out he/she is related to Sarevok, and Siege of Dragonspear's ending reveals what those bad terms are. And ironically, those bad terms is one of the reasons why some, if not most Baldur's Gate fans don't like this game.

Fun fact #2: There is a crusader in Caelar Argent's ranks who holds a grudge on Gorion's Ward. She has artificial wings attached to her back and her name is Adras Ashatiel. The reason why she holds a grudge on the protagonist is because he/she killed her brother... Well, not really. Sarevok is responsible for her brother's death, but she wants to take her anger out on Gorion's Ward. The Siege of Dragonspear Field Report PDF hints that Adras' brother was the man Sarevok choked to death and threw off the Iron Throne HQ's rooftop in the intro cutscene of Baldur's Gate. This has some amusing implications, Sarevok murdered Arran because he was a Bhaalspawn, and Arran knew what Sarevok meant when he said "I will be the last and you will go first", he tried to tell Sarevok that he knows where other Bhaalspawn are, something to prove that he is too useful to kill first. If Adras' brother was a Bhaalspawn, does that mean she is one too? I am not entirely sure.

Fun fact #3: David Ogden Stiers, the voice actor for Belhifet in Icewind Dale passed away on March 3rd 2018. Also, Belhifet returns in this game! Icewind Dale's ending hinted he would be back, and he does return.

Fun fact #4: Beamdog tried their hardest to get some of the original voice actors to reprise their roles as the characters they played in the Baldur's Gate games years ago. They managed to get Jim Meskimen to return as Khalid and Edwin, Jim Cummings as Minsc, Melissa Disney as Imoen, Jennifer Hale as Dynaheir (Mark Meer voices Rasaad and Baeloth, so that means Beamdog has got both the woman and man Commander Shepard from BioWare's Mass Effect Trilogy!), Grey Griffin as Viconia (she also voiced Nalia from Baldur's Gate 2), David Ogden Stiers as Belhifet, Kevin Michael Richardson as Sarevok and David Warner as Jon Irenicus, but they couldn't get Jaheira's voice actress to come back for some reason.

Fun fact #5: When you have Baeloth and Viconia in your party, they speak to each other in Drow in full sentences. I remember Philip Daigle of Beamdog saying that Mark Meer really enjoyed speaking entirely in the Drow language while Grey Griffin didn't enjoy it very much.

I had to make a minor update, adding a short story from the Realms of Valor novel "The Bargain" into the timeline after listening to the audiobook and narowing down where its place in the timeline could be.

In the timeline I reveal that the first Baldur's Gate game is officially a five month long story, beginning in Mirtul (The May month of the Forgotten Realms) to Marpenoth (The Forgotten Realms's October), meaning the hero of the game canonically spent five months journeying around the Sword Coast battling the Iron Throne prior to the events of Siege of Dragonspear.

To those of you who have heard of or know the game "Menzoberranzan", the reason why I did not include it in the timeline is because its cast of characters seriously contradicts what happened before the game. Drizzt's mother Malice, and brother Rizzen is alive and well in the game in a time when Drizzt has been on the surface for some time and is already regarded as a hero, and Malice and Rizzen shouldn't be alive after what happened to them in the "Exile" novel.

It wasn't easy. I own some of the games, and own almost all of the novels in audiobook form, I own some of the comic books physically and others digitally over Comixology, and I have some of the sourcebooks, for research. I started my collection back in 2013 when I first started playing Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition, and I still haven't completed my collection. For the novels, comic books and games I don't own yet, I dig up as much information as I can about them on the Internet.
