The Title says it all.
It's not a big thing, but really unnecessary.

I agree, just have a quick dialogue line pop up that’s something to the effect of “oh, empty.” And that alone would cut down a lot of unnecessary interruption.

But what if you want to put something in said container to retrieve later? Very niche use, but the freedom to do so is nice. BG1/2 functioned similarly.

Simply having it labeled such as 'chest (empty)' should be simple enough so it can still be openable if wanted or ignored cause you know....its empty

How would you know it was empty if you didn't open it to look?

That's true, when it comes to reality, but I don't wanna be bothered by reality ;-)
It's just boring to click on a container just to see that it's empty then hit the "close" button again.

would be nice if mark as empty. or if the character says "it's empty". It's better than open a empty box. if you want to open it, right click and open would do the trick.

Yesterday I saw, on copses they already put an (empty) behind the tooltip. This should be done to containers as well.

I think this has to do with DOS and the random chance of finding an item in any container. (Empty is shown when you have look at it)

It will be way more exciting to open containers if they could have something.

Put a random scroll in that library ... put a random potato on that barrel

y, instead of opening the dialoge it could just say "empty" so you don't have to close the window
