so I know that ranged dps from physical sources is DEX if bows.

But other classes like warlocks and clerics have SPELLS that say range attack IE Eldritch Blast and the cleric.. something Bolt spell. Are these DEX based for to hit purposes too?

Anyone have the correct answer? Everything im reading leads me to believe that CHA/WIS have nothing to do with to hit rolls, but rather saves?

thanks

I think the to hit for spells comes from your main stat.

Int for wizards, wisdom for cleric, druid and, ranger, and charisma for sorcerer, bard and warlock.

In the description of the spell they state which stat you dnemy uses for saving throw, and that is mostly dex for the ranged evocation spells.

There is no dex bonus applied to eldritch blast for the warlock, you can check that in the combat log too. It's proficiency+CHA. It's a ranged spell attack.

Attacks are attacks and spells are spells.

Attacks work like this.
Strength = Attack or
Dexterity = Attack if finesse and Dexterity is higher than Strength or
Dexterity = Ranged attack or
Strength = Ranged attack if considered a throwing weapon or
Dexterity = Ranged attack if considered a throwing weapon that also has finesse

It isn't as complicated as I probably just made it sound.

Spells work like this.
Primary Spellcasting Statistic = Attack modifier or spell DC.

That's it.

So what this means is that spells are spells no matter what. Unless the spell's description says it uses a regular melee attack, or something to that effect, it will always use your primary spellcasting statistic. Wizards will use Intelligence for Firebolt or Shocking Grasp. Sorcerers, Warlocks and Bards will use Charisma. Druids and Clerics will use Wisdom.
