I chose Drow as my race and I am happy to report that being a Drow in BG3 seems to matter. I got different behavior from different NPC. The goblins were friendly to me. I hope this continues through the whole game.

For companions I used Lae’zel and Astarion as they are the most evil of the ones we have. Added Shadowheart because she sometimes approves of various bad actions.

Wyll is out because he wants to kill Goblins. Gail just isn't giving me any evil vibes.

I honestly don’t think any of the companions are evil though.

Overall there are many options to do evil like actions but they are more being a dick then true evil.

Prolog

1. Cripple Us
2. Kill the two thralls in the room with Shadowheart.
3. Do not help Shadowheart, after you see she is trapped.
4. Do not help the Dazed Women in the pod in another room.

Chapter 1

1. Shadowheart chides me for leaving her to die, still joins me.
2. First talk with Astarion there are no options to agree with him about learning to control the tadpole to gain more power.
3. Kill trapped Mindflayer from abush they rob the 3 sailors, killing them.
4. First Long rest, use the Drow option as seems most evil to give into your pain.
5. Attack Gimblebock, Taman, Quelenna & Warryn from ambush.
6. Attack the Tieflings to free Laz’eal with even talking to them.
7. When back to the first ruins, killed everyone there, why are those people hostile?
8. Attack Andrick & Brynna from stealth, killing then after combat. I had my Imp slay Edowin, the unconscious guy on the ground. After combat, still get the tadpole exiting him and I let it go, hopefully it will find another host or become a Neothelid.

Goblins

1. Blighted Village rooftop goblins see that we are a Drow and do not attack.
2. Goblins at Windmill recognize I am a Drow but still get to use the tadpole to dominate them. I use the windmill to fling the deep gnome to his death.

Other

1. Interrupting the couple in the barn, seems being Drow has no effect on them, kill them.
2. Recruit the Orges.
3. Guess Gnolls don’t care if I am an Evil Drow, they are always hostile
4. Meet Karlach, take out her assassination contract on the cultist. Ambush them and report back to her.
5. Exhort money from Rugan to save him from the Gnolls, try to rob him after, find out he is with Zhentarim. Convince him to con his bosses, tell them the chest was stolen and we’ll split the money to sell the chest. Got password for Zhentarim password for when we get to BG.

So the main evil plot of chapter 1 is will you side with the Goblins or the Grove? Overall I feel this is fine, my only issue I have is that you do not seem to have an option to go meet Minthara first and then go to the grove.

I have no idea how to adjust it because before we go to the grove, no idea where it is so it not like Minthara can send Goblins to the grove to attack it so we can then play hero to befriend them so we can betray them. Wait, Minthara should know where the grove is, are you telling me that not one goblin when that party found the grove so we could help out at the gate was not sent back to report to Minthara? I guess it could happen that way but seems like poor writing.

Goblin Camp

1. no evil interactions with Volvo?
2. Find Minthara, agree to go back to Druid Grove to Betray Them.
3. Did not interact with other goblin bosses as I wanted to get the betraying the grove out of way first.

Druid Grove Betrayal

1. After fighting the Goblins at Druid’s Grove, Shadowheart states we should just find a healer and move on, this is not our problem. Took the option to agree with her.
2. You can talk to Zelvor without asking for a healer and do have an option to demand a reward to help them. (Decided to not have the tadpole removed, going for unlimited power!)
3. Tell the 3 Tieflings to run away and not help defend the Grove.
4. Talk to Wyll, using the Tadpole on him, never promising that I will kill the Goblin Leaders.
5. Talk to Asharak, tell the kids to soak the fields with blood and embrace death.
6. Talk to Kagha, keep silent, letting the snake kill the child. Tell her she should have just killed the child. Tell her you are not interested in helping the refugees.
7. Ignored Nettie, the only option seems to be to ask for healing.
8. Macroryl seems like a villain, no conversation for him?
9. Talk to Zelvor, let him hire me to assassinate Kagha.
10. Assassinated Kagha and all the other Druids in the inner room.
11. Tiefling killed other Druids, you lose access to any vendors here.
12. Final betray Tieflings at Druid Grove. None of the goblins will go inside, so why do I open the gates? Also what are Rath and Silver alive back in the Grove, they were killed earlier? Thought all the Druids are dead?
13. Ok, now I have to go through all the grove in turn based mode to get to the back and kill Silver & Rath a 2nd time. smile
14. I see Wyll body among the slain. If I go back to camp, no Wyll, good job! Shame to lose a companion but that would fit Wyll’s story so I approve!
15. Where is Minthara? OK, she in the room Zelkor liked to use, kill the last Tieflings with her.
16. Talk to Minthara, she screams at me “There are more. Hunt then Down!” All the Druids and Tieflings are dead, what is she talking about?
17. Go double check, no, nothing else to kill.
18. Back to Minthara and see still demanding I kill more stuff so guess my evil play through is done.

Overall I think that an evil playthrough is possible but still needs more work.

Personally I think helping the people hunting Karlach instead of killing them for her is the net evil option. They're warlocks of Zariel and actively work for her in the Material Plane (albeit mostly unwillingly). Karlach went to Nine Hells for an unspecified reason, fought in the Blood War killing demons, and now is escaping and just wants to go home and be free of devils. It does seem to be a rather gray choice tho which I enjoy.

And yeah, seems you sequence broke the grove fight a bit. It's smart though, assassinating the druid leaders before the battle. The game seems to want to have the big fight of you vs druids for the evil playthrough. Also "I use the windmill to fling the deep gnome to his death" made me laugh out loud. There's a fun evil option you might have missed in the goblin camp, there's some goblin children standing around a corpse outside. Talking to them as a drow brings up a dialogue choice to threaten them for being insolent, pulling them into combat.

Have you been to the Underdark yet?

I've posted many replies to this in two other topics.

So just going to ask. What is evil to you? What makes a character evil. You can use what you wrote to tell how it would make it more 'evil'.

No, I been saving the underdark. I want to play and offer feedback to Larian but not spoil the whole game. I figure the above part of chapter 1 give plenty to test.

Yes, I am not sure how evil some of the actions I listed are.

Actually I don't know if I want to play EVIL in a game. What I want is options so have a Drow / Negative story arc that you can play through that is different then the Grove / Positive one is great.

I support having different factions that you can side with and hope we get more of then as it goes on.

There are Tiefling kids in an hideout that isn't easy to reach if you didn't save the boy from the harpies at the "grove" beach.

Wait there is a way to help her? I only know that you can either leave her in the pod or turn her into a mind flayer. How do you free her?

Is that an evil option tho? Considering that the people hunting her lie to you and only want her for her soul (i don't quite remember what the reason was, but it was certainly not a holy mission as they claimed).
I'd say the evil/dick route is knowing that the cultists lied but still deciding to kill her.

Well you kill everyone in that gobling scouting party, no? Hence why Minthara has not heard back from them.
Now, one issue i have is that if you go into some building in the grove, the one located near the tadpole dying man encounter, you'll see some goblins and a poisoned druid(i think he's a druid). You can kill them, but if you don't, what happens to them? Do they find the grove and report back? Or does the wolf statue kill them? Idk.

She will poison you(if you fail a skill check or agree to her 'cure'). Here you can either kill her to get the antidote or intimidate her. That's some options for an evil char.

I felt the illithid evil playthrough still needs a lot some work, the party barely recognises you siding with the Absolute, getting their mark and using the tadpole at every chance.

I did not even try, which is why I listed it as an evil action, someone is trapped so I just ignored them. More roleplaying evil.

Should have been more clear, I did not even try to talk to them, attacked them from ambush. Yes, I know they may be evil but I don't really care about that, was hired to kill them, does not matter what alinement they are, they are just targets to me.

I mean before I got there, the goblin find the Grove and they don't sent anyone back to report, right away, before they attack the gate? Seems chaotic stupid to me.

Yes, it needs more polish, good first attempt at it.

Yeah but, goblins generally speaking, aren't known for their tactical, strategic thinking.. or at least no goblin i've met displayed those qualities..
And chaotic stupid seems to fit them?
Idk, i find it quite believable that they'd just decide to attack, thinking they could easily win.

As for the trapped women, i'm mostly saying that since there is no way to save her, more than that, no option to TRY to save her when inspecting the pod (as opposed to Shadowheart, where you end up with 2 diff convos depending on whether you tried to help or not) - i wouldn't consider this an evil choice, since it's not exactly much of a choice?

Goblins are stupid, very stupid for the most part, and very blood thirsty, narrow focus. Their tactics in general are ambush, charge until their prey is dead, or their number advantage goes away, then they run. They seen prey, the adventurers, then more prey those behind the wall. In short their bloodlust got the better of them, and then suddenly your behind them. Cutting off their chance to escape because their boxed in. Walls on three sides, only escape is through yet more enemies.

Then you have a conversation inside the grove, hinting that they feel for the most part as if they are unstoppable! So yes they are stupid, now someone/thing is making them feel unkillable, you have a race who is fundementally dumb, thinking they are unkillable so why would they run?

In my play-through I had this option. You save the Goblin prisoner from the Tieflings and she escorts you directly to the Goblins as a friendly, they introduce you to Minartha before either of the other leaders

Good to know, I do wish there was an encounter outside the Grove that would be a breadcrumb to go meet Minartha before you get to the Grove but I can see how it would be hard to have that many different branches in a CRPG.

Yea, as far as I know they kind of force you into the grove but rescuing the Goblin is a point where you can take a more direct "evil path" with the story because she leads you directly to the Minthara after you rescue her who pretty much sets you on the evil path. Maybe a little more ambient talking about the "goblin prisoner" when you first get to the grove could breadcrumb players into taking a look and making a choice. If you dont save the Goblin and escort her out, then you miss a direct path to the side with the Goblins and pretty much before hitting level 3
