Am i wrong to expect torches to be usable in my off hand the same way a shield is?

Just got to the underdark and near immediately got attacked by... lets say two rather big things to avoid spoilers... and realized the only characters I have that can currently hold a torch and still be used the way ive built them are the two that already have dark vision (my Tiefling mc and Astarion)

You can. You just need to be wielding a light weapon in your main hand.

Larian should probably change this to allow dual wielding a torch and non-light weapon, but then they'd also have to ensure you couldn't still bonus action off-hand attack.

played a bit more now and its occurred to me, both my characters using swords had Rapiers (which had totally left my mind i guess as i just considered them swords) so my personal issue here has been solved but I still stand by this thought
