Just putting this out there, but "The Blade of Frontiers" is a stupid name.

Yeah and "Shadowheart" is so great.

well at least Shadowheart, despite being remarkably generic, paints an idea as to the point of the name. What the hell does "The Blade of Frontiers" mean? "Blade of the frontier" at least makes more sense.

I mean, it's a title, not a name... y'know, since we're just nitpicking really terrible points.
I don't want to fall to bits 'cos of excess existential thought.

I seriously wonder what everyones problem is with Wyll ? I think he is a great character and "Blade of the Frontier" is a fitting title for someone who calls himself a hero. He is supposed to be a bit childish, even Gle mentiones something about "theatratical titles" but he is a great relief after Laézel, grumpyheart and Astarion - not that i dont like them, but a friendly face is some fresh air in the party.

Shadowheart probably wasn't allowed a name. I won't be surprised to learn that it is more of a descriptor of herself and other kids that were kidnapped into Shar's service.
Wyll.....is just full of himself.

I actually think Wyll as a character is pretty cool. I'm intrigued by a warlock who doesn't really meet what i was expecting. But it's so lame.
To quote Vegeta
"But ....that's really dumb. But he's so cool. BUT THAT'S SO DUMB!"

I imagine Wyll will turn out to be much more complicated than he appears. The 'Blade of Frontiers' seems a front, really. His entrance into the game is a bit cheesy though.

Some people choose a name for a laugh: I mean my forum name, it started off bad as a case of "can't think of a good name for my character, so why not a stupid one?" The "why not" is because everyone started calling me that and it stuck. I was in a band called Johnny Dysentery and the Heavily Soiled Undergarments. It seemed like a good idea at the time. etc.
Shadowheart just makes me thinking of that angsty teenager trying too hard to be cool with the goth culture. "The Blade of Frontiers" is a name he thought up with his mates down the pub after a particularly heavy session. Especially as he's a bit rubbish. And so on.

I imagine the name is part of a Guild Faction. Just like The Harpers are. There are many different types of factions and guild names in the history of Baulders Gate.
Regarding Shadowheart, I have a hunch that is not her "real" name =).

I can't help thinking of Wyll as Wyll-I-am. He even has a Black Eye (sort of, though no peas). He really should have been a bard.

Maybe the names just sound cooler or less generic in Dutch.

My halfling ranger is called Badger. I once played a half-gnoll druid called 'Stinky Bastard' (it was what everyone called him and he thought it was his name)*. Our characters don't always get names that their parents would pick.
*Yes, 'Sodoff Baldric' was an inspiration for this one.

Wyll is kind of unique. I really can't remember any RPG video game companion like him. But it all comes down to what they'll do with him down the line

There is also the danger of going the other way, and using modern and/or region-specific names which jar with players.
An old Call of Cthulhu scenario set in England but written by a US author had English university students called something like Buzz and Chip (I forget the actual names but you get the idea). Names are tricky to get right, especially when you are trying to cover a multitude of real-world cultural backgrounds.

I'm reminded of Space: 1999, which was admittedly pretty much the yardstick for bad science in SF. A senior writer with a reputation for being stubborn was visiting England and saw a road sign with some local town name on it. He decided it was so cool that he had to use it in a script. "You can't use that!" one of the actors said to him aghast, which was pretty much a red rag to a bull and he did what he always did which is to dig his heels in. Hence "The Rules of Luton" being an episode. Sigh. But as cheesy as the writing was, seeing a moody Martin Landau skulking about on the moon with genuinely space-age-looking white flares and matching stack-heeled boots was exciting stuff for a seven-year-old.

I initially thought you had said Space 1889 and then was disappointed.
I loved Space 1889 and still have plans to run another game. I also occasionally put on a Sky Galleons of Mars tabletop aerial wargame. Space 1999... not so much. We were travelling around the world during those years and mainly had non-UK TV to watch (military family so lots of foreign postings) Although I did have a die-cast Corgi Eagle transporter which saw a lot of action.
