Auntie Ethel's Vicious Mockery Lines

Unused Main Character Lines (Possibly Scrapped)

Karlach Companion Lines

All courtesy of /u/Chubblot on Reddit. If he is on this forum, please let me know so I can thank him for all this work.

Copy of his thread on tag datamining (link to annotated reddit post here)

Classes
EDIT: Pastebin - Classes+Passives

Nothing too spicy here - here are the class tags and their descriptions.

Paladins, like Clerics, are broken up into Good/Neutral/Evil depending on chosen Deity.

Druid's description is messed up right now (it's a copy/paste of Bard).

Convo Spellcasts
EDIT: Pastebin - DetectThoughts

Might be a leftover or something, but there's a specific tag for DetectThoughts - listed as a "Dialog" tag.

"Player has acces [sic] to Detect Thoughts (Either spell prepared and free spellslot or scroll available) | Also used as Interal [sic] Speech indicator"

Could be referencing us having the option to cast detect thoughts mid-conversation.

Companions
EDIT: Pastebin - Crime handling

This is small - I found a file that deals with NPC reactions to players committing crimes etc. and it has a list of eight (seven?) named characters. If you've been following mining efforts I imagine this isn't news to you.

Species/Monster/Race
EDIT: Pastebin - Races/Really_ tags + Monsters/Species

Ok, this is the convoluted one that I'm not sure how to convey.

First, I want to explain how I think the tags work:

Tags for "living" beings in the world are broken up into Monsters, Species and Races.

For example: Monster tags apply to creatures in a general sense - Aberration, Giant, Beast etc. There's one really interesting one (Undead) that seems different to the rest, but if you want to read about that you can here.

Species, then, breaks up these monster tags into individual... well, species. A species seems distinct from a race for the most part and the (potential) bad news for you Goblin fans is that Goblins appear under the banner of "species," alongside Gnolls, Chickens, etc. This isn't all of them, just some.

Now... races. The big one.

We know there are going to be races added to the game, at least a few within early access.

There are a lot of race tags in game. Like, loads. Some have a specific category called "PlayerRace" - Elves, Drow, etc. Several unreleased racial tags also have the "PlayerRace" category, you can see them here.

Judging by that list, it seems that Gnomes (three subtypes) and Duergar are currently considered player races (at least in terms of their tags).

But there are so many more racial tags. I want to show you them, then explain what their presence might mean (it might not all be good news).

Here are the racial tags currently in the files.

Whoa, right? Well hang on a minute - there's something they all have in common, sans one (or two)...

They all say "Character looks like x." Except for Half-Orc, which says "Player is a Half-Orc." It doesn't have the PlayerRace tag, but it is a PHB race, and they have a description written up. Is the difference significant? Perhaps. You'll note the other PHB race on this list - Dragonborn - follows the "Character looks like" trend the rest do. So are we not getting Dragonborns?

I don't have a clue, but there are more tags worth looking at. They require a little information/theorizing (I don't know anything about game development so forgive me if I'm wrong here).

Each of the races (sans Kuotoa) is accompanied by a REALLY_ tag. And a REALLY_ tag is significant.

When you change your race using the disguise kit or the shapeshifting spell, the game checks what your actual race is (also checks if you're an origin character) and seemingly just replaces your tag with your chosen racial tag. But in reality it sneaks a hidden tag onto your character, a REALLY_ tag, so the game can keep track of what your actual race is. The presence of a REALLY_ tag seems to be a strong indicator that you can change from the race indicated by the REALLY_ tag into another race. And guess what other races have the REALLY_ tag?

In addition to the REALLY_ tags, there are the Meta race tags. If you've played as a Gith, Tiefling or Drow/Half Drow you've likely encountered dialog options that reference these already - there are four currently in-game.

Bestial covers races we've not encountered yet, but Planar is used when you play a Gith, and Rare is used for Tiefling, Gith and Drow-related characters (drow also get the Underdark tag). And Planar, Rare and Underdark are applied as dialog tags to several of the races I've highlighted already, including the unreleased but likely coming Half-Orc. I'd say that's more potential evidence that there are or were plans for these races to be playable, especially with the Planar dialog tag currently only applying to one playable race - if that was planned to stay the same why not just drop the Planar tag and make Planar responses Githyanki specific ones?

Extra
Here is a list of every unit in the game (in a general sense). I assume if it's listed here there are plans for us to encounter it before the end of act one (which explains why there's only one dragon listed). https://pastebin.com/RLB7M0c8

And here is a list of the "template" characters: https://pastebin.com/8QQahqep

The Origin characters seem covered by the templates except for Astarion, who is unique in that he needs a separate piece of logic to make sure he takes acid damage crossing water etc.

Additional speculation based on Chubblot's findings;

If you progress Shadowheart’s companion quest, a strange journal entry reads:

We learned that Shadowheart worships the goddess Shar. It shouldn’t be much of a problem, though – she’s not the only follower of Shar in the party.

The above journal entry appears regardless of the PC’s dialogue choices or religious affiliation. Until now it was unclear if it was a bug or who the other follower(s) of Shar in the party were. Thanks to datamining courtesy of /u/Chubblot, who posted a hefty chunk of Karlach’s voice files, it was revealed that Karlach follows Shar. Here are a few quotes if you’d rather not sift through the whole video:

Looks like someone’s not a fan of Shar. Smeared the Absolute’s symbol all over her. Makes whatever’s ahead even more intriguing.

Selûnite rubbish.

Selûnite drivel. What’s this symbol on it?

I heard what you said. You pray to Shar, goddess of darkness?

The Dark Lady, befouled by the Absolute’s mark. Heresy.

A Selûnite shrine over there. Left to rot by the looks of it. Good.

If you listen to the rest of her audio files, she seems to be mostly good-aligned and is angered/disgusted by the prospect of murdering innocents, and takes a sympathetic approach to those less fortunate. Strange for a Shar worshiper. Wonder what the story is there?

As for Astarion, scionsandsinners on tumblr datamined this audio clip in which he says:

My breath caught in my throat. The broken helmet bore the mark of my goddess, Shar: The Lady of Loss.

It sounds like internal narration from when the party encounters the skeleton of the Shar follower in the Blighted Village, when you play from the perspective of Astarion as an origin character. So far in the EA playing as an original PC, there haven’t really been any glaringly obvious hints that Astarion follows Shar, so this was a surprise for me. That begs the question, how/why and when did he come to follow Shar? Was it before or after becoming a vampire spawn? Is he purposely hiding it from the party, or is his Shar-related dialogue simply not yet implemented in EA? On my previous post about Astarion’s scars, someone did comment theorizing that he might have been forcibly converted to Shar worship by Cazador. That is certainly a possibility, given Shar’s relationship with the undead, and the fact that Cazador seems to love torture so much. The only time Astarion has a reaction to anything Shar-related is if you express an interest in conversion when talking with Shadowheart, where he simply approves. (However, as for Astarion’s scars specifically, I’m not sure if they actually have anything to do with Shar.)

But why hide it from the PC, when Astarion is so open about being a vampire spawn, and when another Shar follower (Shadowheart, and it looks like Karlach too) is accepted by the party? I’m very curious about his relationship with his faith; if it’s something he genuinely believes and clings to as a compass in his life, or if he feels resentment or conflicted feelings if he was forcibly converted. According to the same tumblr user who datamined the above clip, there’s another audio clip where Astarion says something like, “Yes, yes, ‘avenge Shar’ – but the worm is more important than your piety.” (Possibly speaking to Shadowheart?) Perhaps his loyalty to Shar isn’t all that strong. That would certainly go in line with his “survival, no matter the cost” philosophy.

In any case, considering the hints we’ve been given that Shar and Selûne will play a huge role in the rest of BG3’s narrative, it’s not a surprise we have companions that are tied to Shar – though I am surprised there are so many when we take into account Shar’s lack of popularity in the Forgotten Realms. This makes three Shar worshipers and a wizard with a chunk of Shadow-weave stuck in his chest, at the very least. I’m interested in seeing the backgrounds of other companions going forward.

What do you think of the datamined files? How do you think the Absolute/Shar storyline will play out? Any theories about the story and our companions, or new info to add?

NEW:

Chubblot's datamining thread Link

New Race/Class Content
I've found that responses to a character with the Duergar tag are basically fully implemented. Same for Gnomes + Deep Gnomes (no video of that though)

There's partial implementation of voice responses related to the Half-Orc and Dragonborn racial tags.

None of the other unused racial tags seem to illicit a specific response from people, at least not as far into the game as the Grove.

Most unimplemented racial tags have no name or desciption when forced onto the player character... except for Triton.

Voice Files
A dump of all the voice files I could find relating to certain characters. Spoilers likely. If a name is plain text then I have the files and they're pending upload.

Holy crap are there any good origin characters in this game besides Minc and maybe Halia? Wyll and Gale are intended to be neutral, the other three we have so far are evil, Karlach is evil, Halia is a werewolf so she might be evil or good, Larian is really going to have to do another three Companions in addition all of these.

Very disappointing if

they won't even cover all PHB races. Might be a dealbreaker for me.

About the datamined story

That you just happen to end up with so many Shar worshippers sounds rather contrived.

Beastial might cover races like Tabaxi, Lizardfolk, Kenku, Aarakocra, ect... But also werewolves.

Planar we know applies to Githyanki and Warforged but that could be a general tag for Player races from other settings, aka not born on Toril, so if at a future point they add races like Leonids, Changelings, Kalashatar, Githzerai, ect..., then those will likely have the Planar tag as in they aren't from Toril, but were brought thier by the Nautiliod.

I'm betting all these playable races end up in and possibly more because honestly adding races is not that hard with BG3, modders have already done it with Goblins, Hobgoblins, Bugbears, Gnolls, Minotaurs, Mindflayers, and Gnomes so far and the game has been in EAfor less then a month.

The tags work easily enough and alot of the character race statements aren't voice acted, so it just a matter of writing the lines.

I don't understand that either.

It may be a holdover from pre-EA or something, allegedy a lot of the PC's dialogue is now cut so this could be cut too.

Here is a list of all the races in the code right now. I really wonder if the bestial races will be playable at all considering Larian wants to do realistic sex scenes with them. There are no birdpeople to mocap with in real life.

All evidence so far points to all PHB races being in the game, including Dragonborn, Half Orc, and Gnomes (with Rock, Forest, and Deep Gnomes subraces) being in the game by full release. Heck Gnomes have already been modded in. It's just likely that in the case of Dragonborn and other Beastial races, faces can't just be mapped and scanned by more human looking races with tweeks added, they have to be done custom by artists, all that extra work takes longer, so they weren't ready for EA yet.

And far as Sharrians in the party, that is likely not an accident, but rather Shar's influence or one of her more powerful servants influence on events.

The dataminer also said this:

Pretty hefty quest spoiler re: Nightsong - It seems to be a person. A girl. And she may be a follower/companion with unique skills: |While in dim light or darkness, Nightsong can teleport as a bonus action up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space she can see that is also in dim light or darkness. She then has advantage on the first melee attack she makes before the end of the turn.|"

|Each creature must make a DC 14 Con ST, taking 3d8 necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. If a humanoid is killed by this damage, an undead Shadow rises from its corpse and fights alongside Nightsong. Nightfall also extinguishes all lightsources|

And dialogue: "I am Nightsong, Shar's penitent. Cursed to bear the loss of all those who worship her." "I will always be Nightsong, but you can be something more. You're remembering." - Possibly related to Shadowheart.

Quest has multiple endings - you can give her to at least two or three different people, kill her, ignore her or free her of her curse.

So it seems to me the Nightsong is what Shadowheart would become as a "beautiful weapon" t. the Absolute.

You don't mocap sex scenes period, not even FOW studios is mocapping it's sex scenes, just it's regular scenes, and FOW Studios Subverse game is a hardcore porn game that uses mocap for none porn scenes.

After for body type, only tails, heads, and wings will be issues, and that can be worked around, I mean none of it's much more challenging them height differences. Tieflings already have tails, and horns, so that shouldn't be a problem for other races. Kissing might be weird with some heads, so skip kissing or add licking in it's place. Wings are the really tough one, but it's do-able.

I'm curious what happens during sex scenes when one uses the playable mindflayer mod.

About Karlach:

I don’t think Karlach worships Shar. I listened to most of her audio files and she more than once says “Moonmaiden’s grace,” which doesn’t sound like something a Shar devotee would ever say except in the utmost sense of irony. It’s important not to take fragmented audio clips and making sweeping assumptions.

I wonder how hard it would be to turn some of the chapter 1 followers into companions. We could use more good or potentially good companions in BG3.

This. They might not be playable at all, other than Dragonborn who has confirmed reaction lines with Volo. The [BESTIAL] tag is generic for all the others, maybe because they are unfinished but more likely because they are not going to be playable. That said, this does not explain Warforged being there. They are from Eberron which is not in the Forgotten Realms at all.

Yeah, Karlach might have been a stretch on the Reddit user's part. Astarion saying Shar is "his godess" is weird though. He makes this whole fuss about hiding that he is a vampire only to then also hide that he is a Sharran?

EDIT re: person below me;

Not even that might indicate that dragonborn are playable, it might just be a line used if the character is disguised as one at that moment.

Do you think this is why we turn back to our original form once we initiate a conversation with our companions? I thought that was a bug. Although you would be able to retain your bestial disguise with non-companion NPC's and the disguise menu would be massive with all these options, it's all a bit odd.

Yup. But does it have to be people you meet in Act 1? I hope there is the possibility of recruiting some companions in Act 2.

That's a possibility.
If it turns out that nearly everyone is evil or neutral I'll join those saying that this is not a successor to the BG series. If Minsc is the only good companion the writers need to create 5 more stat. The "cannon" party was Minsc, Aerie, Jaheria, Imoen, Charname and a wildcard.

Helia the werewolf halfling bard might not be evil, but will most likely be neutral. I agree that it is a bit weird that we have no good companions whatshowever as far as we know, but I suppose Larian has an entire year and a half to make those.

You all really shouldn’t be so worried about the character alignments. If you listen to Karlach’s audio files you will hear lots of lines where she expresses empathy. While it’s of course too early to say definitively, she sounds very much like a good aligned character.

My guess is that it will be:

Minsc - good
Karlach - good
Helia - good
Wyll - neutral
Gale - neutral
Astarion - evil
Shadowheart - evil
Lae’zel - evil

This seems like a very decent spread, especially seeing as BG2 had a very poor selection of evil companions.

That being said, the more the merrier, so hopefully Larian is going to add a few.
