"I've been toying with the idea of buying PS2 or GameBoy Advanced SP (or both). Seems just when I'm ready to buy one or the other..."
The GBA/SP has some fabulous RPG's. Because my old eyes can not see the Gameboy screen, I bought a Gamecube and a Gameboy Player. The latter lets you play Gameboy games on a TV. Great device. Some of the great games: Sword of Mana, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, the Fire Emblems. And, with a Gamecube, you can play the only Zelda I have ever played, the Wind Waker. Check it out.

I'm afraid I'm in the dark about the quote. Is this from a game?

If you're not in a hurry for the GameBoy Advance SP wait for the GameBoy DS (dual screen) to come out end of the year in the US - it will be GameBoy compatible and provide you with a whole new range of possibilities for the future.

Thanks for the info! I just went to gameboy's website to take a look at the GBA/SP (you're right, Fuff - there are a lot of RPGs) and noticed that Wizardry: The Summoning is due to be released on GBA/SP this September. Oh, and I like the idea of being able to hook up to the TV. I don't like those small screens either and prefer playing console games on my TV. This fall looks like there are going to be some good releases! I'm going to see what I can find out about this latest Wizardry. Will post if I find anything interesting. I only wrote the FFVII and Daggerfall books from that link. On Amazon, I'm credited with writing 100 books, but only wrote 15. It has something to do with publishers getting book info out early with a guess as to the author, and never changing it when real info is known.

I have a feeling that the near future is empty. Nothing of interest is coming out for PC.
There is one long awaited game though, but it is not RPG, it is Thief. That's all <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />

Thief 3... I had high hopes for that untill I found out that they menaged to obliterate that game too. First it's out for PC and Xbox, which means that several elements will be modified in favor of the consoles. Second: Several arrows will be missing, Rope arrows are replaced with "climbing gloves". Also some of the original Thief 1+2 story/world elements were altered or removed.
No, the only games I have hopes for are Vampire: Bloodlines and Freedom Force 2.

Maybe, for once, they'll release a product that doesn't have bucketful of bugs. But I doubt it. So, KotOR2 seems to be my only hope. Dragon Age doesn't look too bad a premise, though it seems to be some years away from actual release. The Witcher is iffy.

Considering Troika's last two products, I don't have high hopes for it. Maybe, for once, they'll release a product that doesn't have bucketful of bugs. But I doubt it. Arcanum and Temple of Elemental Evil? I won't comment on Arcanum, you remember our last argument and it didn't change anyone's opinion. Temple of Elemental Evil was rushed. Troika were forced by Atari to get this game a month earlier. Troika made several patches and sent them to Atari. They didn't get a reply and they cannot release them in public without the later's aprouval. Well, I always hated Atari but this was unexpected. Mind you: VTM: Bloodlines isn't an RPG like the others. I'd reccomend you to check several in-game movies to see what I mean. So, KotOR2 seems to be my only hope. Dragon Age doesn't look too bad a premise, though it seems to be some years away from actual release. The Witcher is iffy. KotOR2 isn't developed by Bioware but by Obsidian Studious: the people behind Icewind Dale, IWD2 and Planescape: Torment so we can expect a different approach to KotOR2. Might be interesting to see, then I never played the original and I doubt I will in the near future.

I remember the first game. Very engaging, but there were no maps for the dungeons, just outside, as I recall. After Wiz III in 1983, I swore off game mapping forever. Do you know if the new game will have maps?

No. Troika is a professional group of people. Professional group of people are expected to meet a deadline and, in the case of game developers, release something that at least doesn't seem like a bug-ridden alpha version. Troika failed to do that. They failed their responsibility. Which is just too bad. KotOR2 isn't developed by Bioware but by Obsidian Studious: the people behind Icewind Dale, IWD2 and Planescape: Torment so we can expect a different approach to KotOR2. Might be interesting to see, then I never played the original and I doubt I will in the near future. Obsidian is quite promising, considering their resume. (Well, not IWD2, but.) In any case, believe me, KotOR's quite worth it. It easily ranks right behind PS:T in my books, and is the one shining star in the last three-four years of mediocre to downright ghastly CRPGs.
