By perfect stats you mean 18 STR, 18 DEX, 18 CON, 18 INT, 18 WIS, 18 CHA?

Since Larian are extensively house ruling, I would like to try playing with extra feat picks.

I think coupling feats with ability score increases was a big mistake 5e did. That is not a fun decision. ASI's and feats are different aspects of character development and players shouldn't have to choose between them. 3e felt a lot better in this regard.

While I wait for 5.5e to fix this, I would settle for an extra feat at level 1 in BG3. Or a feat every 3 levels that would be separated from ASI's

Agreed.

I am not a D&D expert by any measure. But from playing Early Access it seems like the ability score feat is also always the best choice. If that is the case even like 75%+ of the time, then just give everyone ability score increases at whatever level intervals and allow everyone to pick feats apart from it. Seems like a much more interesting system to me.

While that's often the case in general, it's also worth stressing that it doesn't help that the game currently implement a very limited selection of Feats (something that modders are apparently already trying to address until Larian steps up).

I do agree in general with your second point that ASI and Feats should be considered two separate upgrades. Not just because it's convenient to the player (more power ups are always tasty, of course) but also because it helps to increase build variety.
It's hard to pick the situational flavor-fueled option if you have to give up to the unquestionable and universally useful upgrade in power, for it,

I think all characters should be able to pick one free feat at level one.

And then get one random feat from a select list in addition. The list would include feats that anyone could use, so nothing like Shield Master. This would help force more interesting builds.

😂 nah that would take a lil more than two hours. My personal luck skill is below 10. The only one I want to do this on is a STR based multi DruidFtr. Dual wielding. With the 5e nerfs to dual wielding and haveing to choose ASI or feats…. This isn’t a min max thing, it’s a certain character I have role played for years and he just don’t feel right as a dex based D/F.
