I had an interesting arugment with the trader in the first town you start in. I guess he wanted me to steal some herbs for him and me being an honorable warrior said I wouldnt do it. Now he does not like me but irl people have conflicts all the time and you cant just load an old time frame of your life and make it better by selecting the other option. Not only that but my honorable warrior would not steal anything anyway, he just does not steal or kill innocent people or anything like that. Anyone have anything to say about this?

Now that trader does not like me and charges me more than usual for his items, well I say he can keep his stupid stuff.

In terms of proper RPGs, there are two types of player - the Role player, who creates a persona for his/her character and then sticks with it, and the Roll player, who has no concept of characterisation, but loves throwing dice.

I very much prefer the former.

I always describe a proper RPG as 'freeform acting'.

I always roleplay. I have a concept for my character when I start and then try and make my decisions based on that. My character for DD is a female survivor called Valleria and she always sides with the lower class.

*Possible spoiler*

For example I helped the poor woman in rivertown ruin the merchant rather that the other way around. Playing like that helps draw you into the game world more I think. Im flattering myself but I also believe its a more mature way of gaming

Edited because my spelling sucks

I roleplay; in a rather Machiavellian style. If there is an honorable way to accomplish something, I'm all for it. If there is greater benefit from a slightly less-honorable path, then as long as I don't get caught.....

BTW, by refusing to get George his fix, you broke a later quest regarding him (though not a major / required one).

I always try to role-play the character I want to play in an CRPG - one I know the "boundraies" of the CRPG. In Divinity, you CAN follow your way without breaking/missing too many quests. (I also initinally, refused to help him, till I found out there was a way to get him his herbs without stealing) (Which fir my character)

After rescuing Lanilor you can ask his permission to get some herbs from his garden. However, just turning George down breaks a quest, even if you later bring some to him.

There is a fix for this, however; FIX for broken Imp Council Member quest (Spoiler)

I restarted my warrior (he was very new I didnt lose anything) and decided to take George's quest. Im glad I thought to ask Lenalor (sp?) because I was not going to steal from his garden.

Yep there is nothing wrong with starting again i had completed a fair amount of the game and re-started. Due to my rush to get into the game i sorta stuffed a couple of quests up, (including the George one) so wnet back and took more time.

Thats the only problem with games as good as this one.....trying to see what happens next by rushing....lol

Im the kind of roleplayer who has to do just about everything. I think I will do every single quest in the game that I can get and explore everywhere. I love to see what is next in the game but I also love to see everything and do everything. I was quite happy with myself when I went to see if I could get permission from Lenalor

I always play games completely; I do everything. I also roleplay. At the moment, I won't steal anything, whether they're home or not. I will take any experience I can though (without breaking rule 1). Next time I'm going to be a gold-whore and steal everything. I'm going to own a neighbourhood.

I always try to roleplay. I'm even one of the (few ?) who doesn't kill the mind-controlled soldiers in that camp. I had my reasons: I saw no point in killing them, like I see no point in killing the messenger who brings bad news. It simply wasn't their fault.

Apart from that, I have the feeling as if the "Roleplaying" as it is rather traditional, was reduced with the release of the Diablo-games : There is imho no "real" roleplaying like in a P&P group (except the "Knights of the Dinner Tables style ) , only hacking and slashing, which seems to be another branch to me.

I don't define roleplaying as "Hack 'n' Slash" - but rather as Interaction.

Anyone who knows KODT knows what I mean.

I try to do all quests and explore every possible area/outcome. normally, my first character is a "test" and i play a little to get the feel of the game. start over and do everything the right way. start over and do everything differently, killing people, stealing, lockpicking.

You can role-play between the hacking and slashing. Unfortunately, experience is earned mostly through combat. That's where Deus Ex got it right; You earned experience for getting from point A to point B, regardless of your methods.
