I noticed all the rings I have come across don't really have a purpose, or function. Unlike the necklaces I have found, which gives a description of what it does.

Are rings just for selling or are they magic and you just have to discover what they do?

Most of the rings are insta-junk, yes. Actually, pretty much like the majority of necklaces, for that matter.

There are a couple of magic rings in the game as of now, and they have distinctive visuals. Almost all of them are in higher level locations, however.

They're vendor trash basically.
I had the same thought though - "should I be examining these somehow to reveal magical properties?" But nope.
Most of it is is the equivalent of costume jewelry in real life - shiny junk. Digging through loot in games is a bit like digging for treasure in a secondhand shop. smile You do have to search through a lot of junk to find any decent stuff.

I'm wondering if eventually they will be used for crafting.

Dungeons and Dragons games usually contain loot tables with gems, jewelry, and coins as the valuable treasure. In most editions though, these items are usually tradable for coin at appraised set values as they are as good as gold, thought the gold/appraisal system in this game...

Hopefully we'll get a more dynamic copper silver gold plat system so not everything is costing so much gold making no economical sense

I know it would probably take some time to do, but yes I would appreciate it, even if it means losing the ability to sell a junk item and get a gold for it.
