Optimism: The doctrine that everything is beautiful, including what is ugly, everything good, especially the bad, and everything right that is wrong... It is hereditary, but fortunately not contagious.

Brain: an apparatus with which we think we think.

Politeness, n. The most acceptable hypocrisy.

"An excellent plumber is infinitely more admirable than an incompetent philosopher. The society which scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because it is an exalted activity will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water." (John W. Gardner)

What more did he say? Well, I might not know it from heart (since it's not very short) but when I find it... Ah, here we are:

And ms Marietta Cosmopilite on Quirmstreet 3, Ankh-Morpork would allso have believed in it. But then again, she believed in that theworld is round, that a slice of garlic in herdrawer with underwears keeps vampires away, that it does you good to go out and have a laught once in a while, that there's something good in everyone, you only have to know where to look and that three horrible, tiny dwarves looked in everyday when she got undressed*.

* In the last case she wasa right, but that was a complete coincidence...

Ah, Douglas Addams, what did HE say again? Ah yes:

A highway is a thing that goes between point A and point B. It helps pepole get from point A very fast and it allso helps pepole at point B get to point A very fast. C is a point placed right in between point A and B. They wonder what's so wonderfull at point B since everybody at point A really have to go there, and they allso wonder why everyone at point B have to go to point A. They really think pepole should decide where they REALLY whould like to be, and stay there.
X would really like to be at point D, who is a point as far away from A, B and C as possiblle. There he would have a small cottage with horns over the door (his whife would like daisys, but he preferred horns). He would spend a lot of time at E, who is the closest local pub.

And one of the interesting ones at that - Descartes said many things worth a thought or two, like:

"If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things."

You don't need to be a philosopher for that.
Besides... a lot of humans think all the time (I hope) and aren't...

It's just not good enough for me.
