I don't understand it. I reformatted my computer, its running great, and I get major slow down in parts of Verdistes to the point where the game stops for 5 - 10 seconds and than continues. Could it be because of the video card? I haven't had time to make much progress with school, a girlfriend, and working all the time (random I know).

Had the same problem, but not only in Verdistis.

It might be you RAM or not enough memory on your graphic card.

I used an AMD 850 MHz with 256 MB Ram and a onboard 32 MB graphic card.

the prob's with the game, not your pc specs nor OS configurations. almost everybody has that problem until they patched the game. so get that latest patch to kill that worry & continue having fun.

Hi DeltaWolf,

Make sure you don't have any other programs running in the background. There is also a readme file with performance tips for Divinity that talks about handling slow game speed IIRC.

Thanks.

Hi Janggut,

Without going off-topic too much, I think this link where Dad talks about advanced systems could explain what I mean:

HAL

Also, DeltaWolf, you could try changing the mode in the configuration program (i.e. to Software or Directdraw) before loading a game where you are in Verdistis. Remember to save periodically so as to avoid missing too much when the game really decides to slow down or even crash.

Thanks.

If I can remember correctly, the slow down only use to happen when there is a lot of NPC's on the screen. This happened in Verdistis and the Market area.
I'm not sure wich version of DirectX I'm using, but the OS is Windows XP.

The slow down was not a big hassle, just sometime a bit annoying. Luckly the game only crashed once on me.

I think game tend to load graphics only when they're needed. In Verdistis there is a great number of civilian skins. Perhaps it is loading all of these at once, causing the delay.

No, the NPCs where never the problem. The roofs (those were added later) cause that slowdown, but with the latest patches that should be gone.

So why do I get slow downs in the forest? I don't notice them much as my computer can handle to game without a problem, but it's like it's loading little bits and pieces as I go cross-country.

Not fussed, just curious.

Hi everyone,

I am playing DD one week now, and I had the same problem. I run windows XP and Directx V.9. I think that it has something to do with that. The dierectx I mean. I uninstalled the V.9 and I reinstalled V.8 from the game cd and now DD runs perfectly.

By the way I want to thank you all about the help because reading this forum made me solve many system problems and I can now play hours and hours...

Interesting ... DirectX 9 is soo slow ? That would explain why my own Age of Wonders : Shadow Magic is slow, too ...

I think that directx v.7 was the best. I did not have any problems with that ver. On the other hand, since I downloaded v.9, I am experiencing really nasty crashes.... I am glad it is not my imagination...

Oh did I mentioned that I play all the way through with the latest patch?

You are very welcome and as you probably read it won´t last long till you are one of us. (ähmm you of course already are )

Concerning the misssion problem with the orc supplies:

You have to go to the point where this orc wagon is placed. (look at your map to be sure that you are at the right place.) After you got rid of those nasty orcs place yourself near the wagon and open your inventory. throw the explosives. Your char. will run away on her own.

You know to throw things?
If not: click on the explosives hold mouse button and pull the explosives out of your inventory and next to the wagon)

Good luck!

sadly(or maybe fortunately) i don't have winXP on my system therefore i cannot confirm the problem with it & directx9 for DD. what entails may be another FAQ for DD on directx versions.

for anyone who happen 2 use WinXP & directx 9(a or b), please post & let us know if your system runs DD without problem or not. & state the problems. that way we can compile enough info & help members in their DD gaming. i'm sure raze is taking notes now...

I thank you again. For every word of it.

Well my problem with the wagon is that I am not sure I found it. Is it the place in which is plased the red flag in my map? Or do I have to go further? I have found a place with two wagons (not train wagons)where the flag is placed. If I go further, to the east, I face a big group of orcs which I can not defeat even if I use my scorpion... Btw I am a warrior in the game of level 10 by now. I have also enchanted all my armor. I will try again today.
I know how to drop things, etc. At first when I started the game, I did not know what to do. I had caps lock on and I thought that my graphics card (G force 2) could not support the game. I also had shift on and I thought that my mouse went crazy! I then entered the forum and read all about it... I was laughing with my self for hours

I am reading all your posts in here for 3 weeks now and you were very helpful indeed.

"I have found a place with two wagons (not train wagons)where the flag is placed."

The wagons are in a walled off section with a couple breaks in the wall, marked with a flag on the map. You should know you are in the right spot if you drag and drop the explosives from your inventory into the middle of the wagons and it blows up in a cut scene.
You do not need to do the army quests right away, and can head north east for easier monsters, north west for slow undead (easy using ranged attacks, tougher up close), or even clear the area around Aleroth first. Explore the farmlands, etc if you want a break from killing monsters.

I have cleared Aleroth area already. It was so much fun!!!

I think that I am in the right spot right now and I will use my explosives today. Last night I was too tired after 7 hours continious play. Today I will make it!

Not fussed, just curious.

Thats another funny thing with our engine. I'm not a programmer but I will try to explain it anyway. Lar, Rat, Grischa, please correct me if I mix it up. The engine is building up the screen by calculating the horizontal lines top down so each pixelrow is drawn one by one. At each "hole" in the Object the engine has to calculate the underlying objects shining through. The more holes an object has (think of all the leaves you can look through) the longer is takes.

I'm from Germany. Eastgermany to be precise. The Name Marian is not uncommon for a boy there. It is a slawish version originated from the latin MARIUS (man from the ocean).

P.S. Btw my avatar is actually me just a little bit postprocessed. Here is the original.

Nice site . The last part of manipulating and carrying items, reminds me of the game where I dragged with me an organ from the easteregg area to the waistlands. Guess I wanted to have the lord of lies play it while I killed him.
Yes, I know. I am a bit crazy

What's up in here???

Btw I could use some help for the disapearing gems. Yeah yeah I know, I haven't exposed Elrath yet.

And Otho does not like me at all. Is that a reason for my quest of exposing Georges' murderer to fail?

Oh and I blew up the ##@ wagon!!

Me too.

Otho is like that. He doesn't like humans. You can trade with him to make him more freindly.

Disapearing gems.
Just hang out north of that graveyard. Close to the grey death area. At night ofcourse. You'll see them apear, and if you follow the trail...

Have you wandered around south of the poor quater, north of the graveyard, west of where you meet the old man? disappearing gems screen shot

Every time you ask Otho about the murder his opinion of you drops by 10.
Did you refuse to get George the Drudanae herb at the start of the game? That will break the murder quest, even if you later bring him his fix. Did you go through all of the speech options with the vampire?

@Setharmon thank you for one more time... Of course I was searching for the gems on daylight.

Well as I probably told you, I have been reading you for three weeks now. And every new member in here was welcomed by Jurak with such a funny and sweet way.
So it impressed me when I didn't have a word from him. I made great laughs with some of his posts.

Is it my hair?
My breath perhaps?
Should I wear green instead of black?

(Jurak I am joking now.)

Raze thank you. I went to the graveyard and freed Elora. But I was searching the gems in daylight. Thanks for the screenshot it is very helpful.

Actually I brought Otho the Drudanae but I made a tiny mistake. I stole it from the garden and I asked (after I gave George the plant) L. for permision to take it. Which he gladly gave it to me. As for the Vampire, I do not remember if I talked to him. Once I did, but after all those loads and saves I cant remember what I did eventually.
Women! What did you expect?

I really thank you though.

If I start all over again, and talk to the jombie (something that I might already have done but I am not sure), would Otho share his thoughts for Georges´murdered with me? I mean is he supposed to do that? Till now he wont tell me and as Raze said when I ask him his opinion about me drops down ten points.

It's the vampire. Remember first time you went to George?
That guy who was leaving. That's the guy you want.

Did you cure both soldiers in the beginning? When you tell him you did that he'll be more freindly too.

And never take drundane from the garden without asking first.

Otho will not share his thoughts on the murder, no matter what you do; it is best to just not ask him about it. This is a relatively minor quest. You only missed out on a level of Restoration and a bit of experience by not completing the quest, so there is no need to start over. Otho's opinion of you doesn't really matter, especially if you have a level of Repair or are far enough to have found better merchants (ie in Ars magicana).

I healled both soldiers. I just stole by mistake the plant and then asked for permission to take it.

I remember the Vampire. He was rude and he was leaving in a hurry.

You'll meet him again later...

But it's like Raze said. Otho won't tell you much anyway. I just didn't wanted to spoil to much.

Taking the plant without asking has lowered his opinion about you. It's very hard to please the little guy.

Raze thnx

It is relief. I thought Otho shares his thoughts with me. I have 2 level restoration and 2 level of repair. So maybe when I meet the Vampire I still have the chance to confront him... Even if I have not spoke to him? I usually speak with everyone and twice but now my #@#gg mind does not help. It was the start of the game and I reloaded many times. So I am afraid that knowing what he was going to tell me skiped him by mistake.

I thought you already killed the vampire in Verdistis? If not, you should have the speech options to ask about George the next time you meet. You get a brief interaction with the vampire the first time you enter George's shop, but nothing important then.

I havent visited Verdistis yet. I want to poison the orcs well first. And remove the curse from the Abbey.

I thank you so much!!! I think it is not necessary to start all over!
