Interesting, will this really work to make a chain of guards? I have a resource collector, which is guarded by interceptors, which are guarded by bombers, which are guarded by gunners, which are guarded by pulsars, which are guarded by some frigates. Or vice versae frigate is guarded by pulsar which is .....
Does it make sense?

OK, so I played the demo again and completely to notice something. The missions are cumulative and you do not begin from scratch every mission. This means that you should exploit your resources, time and research at every mission to end up as strong as you can at the beginning of the next level, which would minimise your losses and maximize your time for further development.
To give you an example, in the demo there is a first mission of transferring RUs from a base craft to the mother ship using a single resource collector space robot. The mission shall try to stimulate you to carry on after 700RUs have been collected but I waited until 4200 RUs were completely inside my M-Ship before I built the fighter production facility. Then I made 3 interception units because I knew that there is one hidden in the remote carrier to have a total of four squadrons of interceptors, which would allow me to build 4 bombers to have a balanced force to begin the next mission. If I had had more recourses I would have built another 4 squadrons of interceptors to guarantee that all six crew bishops would be saved not just four of them or five. The four bombers were quite adequate to destroy the carrier after destroying the fighter facility subsystem.
I may choose to delay the last bishops to increase the time of resource collection and research to build a stronger force before proceeding. In simple words try to fool the game more than the game would try to fool you.

You are right. Unlike in HW1, here you can't collect resources and manage production and research of your fleet after all battles are over and objectives met. You have to think about this during intensive battles. And another thing new in HW2. Large ships, like capital class ships leave some nice amounts of RU's after you destroy them. Auto-collecting-resources-at-the-end-of-the-mission will not cover those RUs left from destroyed ships (thanks Alrik for pointing me to those excellent forums, where I have got this info).
So, it is essential to : - first, collect all parts of destroyed ships, - second, think about what fleet will you have at the beginning of the next mission.
DAD, to be precise, I will have to replay at least previous mission to gather resources and strong army. Hmm, there is sense after all, maybe this is the best thing to do, as I enter this mission broken and weak.

Oops! How can you remember to get more memory before getting more memory to remember to get more memory? Ouch! Victory was very easy through focusing on collecting resources and researching while upgrading the mother ship and the carrier the game gave me after a hyperspace jump. Forced to play a death match as the only option too. The enemy did send out an early scout to sense my intentions, so I delayed their first attack by being a peaceful researcher. My very first improvement was the advanced sensor array and a couple of probes that contained the enemy harvesting activity in between so any movements were detected. With 10 gun-platforms and 10 ion-cannon-platforms the mother ship was not even scratched. Then the carrier took off while creating the balanced armada that took out the enemy completely. It was boringly easy really so I cannot imagine how it is different in the full game. Do you get attacked immediately after the mission starts while you have absolutely no defences? Also, what difficulty level are you playing at, is it the top insanity level or something?

The aforementioned FAQ had one interesting bit about that : Bombers shielded by others. Because platforms didn't have that much impact.

Hmm, strange, but I really haven't found where can I change difficulty level of the game. I think it has just one setting.
In this mission they give you around 5 minutes (or maybe less) before first attack or they will attack almost immediately after you start harvesting.
It is not hard when you know what to do and are careful about your ships and resource management.
I have never had time to build 10+ platforms, having just 2 didn't have much impact, but I do think I shouldn't underestimate their importance, as that pulse platform is almost always 1 hit kill for smaller ships, though it is slow.
And in my case laying mines wasn't the only solution, I managed to build more balanced fleet. Instead of 1 torpedo frigate I built 5-6.

Did you buy it in terminal 2? That is my favourite software shop man. Unfortunately I cannot travel before the middle of November waiting for residence issues. However, by that time I could just buy the best 10 available games. What a small world it is!

i have just arived in that mission, egin. but i have yet 2 start playing it. about the previous mission, did u ever manage to capture any of the enemy carriers? ia have four marine frigates & i can't seem to capture any at all. i used all of them to capture a carrier (like in homeworld 1) but after the pale blue bar is full, nothing happens. just that the carrier is temporarily disabled.
is it a bug or am i stoopid?

Maybe you should first disable their subsystems first ? When I tried to capture one frigate, he just destroyed my marine frigates.

Try destroying there engines, they can 'run' off . IIRC i think you need 5.
