I think: time difference between EST (Eastern Summer Time) and CEST (Central European Summer Time) are 6 hours.

Thats what I tought

EST = eastern standard time.
so 20u00 - 5 = 15u00 time GMT belgium is in the zone GMT +1 so 20u00 EST == 16u00

Almost correct, but the '-' sign should be a '+'
so 20u00 + 5 = 01u00 time GMT belgium is in the zone GMT +1 so 02u00

ergo, it's night then, most people sleep over here...

He's right though.
It's +6. (we're "ahead" in europe.)
So 2am ECT or 02:00.

My bad. Sorry for the confusion.

Yep that is right.
EST time is the time in New York. So the people in GMT +1 have to chat at 2 o clock at night ( the night of tuesday to wednesday)

and if you don't believe me: clock

Hi!

I used http://www.timezoneconverter.com and it says:

8 PM EST == 3 AM @ Berlin

(Sorry, I put 1AM in the news at first, but this was wrong)

Does this mean the Chat is 1.00 in the middle of the night ?

Depends on where you are

In Germany (as well as in Belgium, I think), it'll be September 17th, 3AM.

As the disclaimer says on Timezone converter:
Code
DST* is not in effect on this date/time in EST
DST* is in effect on this date/time in Europe/Berlin

DST is Daylight Saving Time. As only one of the timezones is modified for that you end up with one hour too much. The difference between EST and the time in germany is 6 hours. So this means 2AM and not 3AM.

here you can find the two timezones, Click me.
Lookup the 8PM time for New York and see what it is then in berlin.

The chat will be at 2h in the morning in France (GTM + 2h).
In Belgium it would be nearly the same.

Complicated... they should have used that internet time thing instead...

But 2 AM sounds good, worst thing that could happen is you have to wait for an hour

Huh? France in a different timezone than Germany? That is one thing I can't believe. France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium... all use CET/CEST, all except Great Britain or Ireland

It's great that there will be a Developer Chat about . But I'm confused about the time. Is it now 2 or 3 AM for germans?
