It took me a while to figure this out, but I'm now sure that my lockpicks are disappearing. Any time I get some lockpicks and later try to use them, I no longer have them. Now, I can't find any more in the game and there are many quests I can't complete. It is very frustrating and I'm about to quit trying. Any suggestions?

have you checkied, they might be hiding under something in your inventory, and in your skills, lots of times it says you don't have something, when you do have them so look again

I'm sure I don't have them because when I try to pick a lock it tells me, "you have no lockpicks". I downloaded the latest patch about a week or 2 ago.

sometimes they go away, when they are in your inventory, check there too.


maybe you drop them? or use them ??? this is very strange

Nope, none in my inventory. I can't seem to find anyone that sells them reliably either. You would think you could buy lockpicks at the thieves guild...

I've invested too much time to restart the game.

I think the bartender has some? not sure, and TIngalf always has alot, but I always put him away in jail <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" />

Have you talked to Finnigan in the Ducal inn cellar? In a game started after installing the 1.34 patch, he sells lockpicks. In any version, he gives you a quest to steal his magic unbreakable (with the patch) lockpicks. In a game started after installing the patch you can return the lockpicks and buy them back, but if it was started in a previous version just keep them.

Tingalf in Ars Magicana sells lockpicks, if you have not had him arrested. So does Blake occasionally and Mpenzak in Verdistis.

Sometimes lockpics, disappear after constant use. I mean you can not buy a lockpick and have it for ever. You use it sometimes and then it disappears. Then you have to by new ones. You should gather some lockpics after clearing the Aleroth area. And as the other friends here told you, you can buy from Arcs Magicana. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

about finnigan's lockpicks, u cannot exhaust them as they're magical so that means u can use them indefinitely (unless u run out of things to pick or u end the game).

IF u happen to drop finnigan's lockpicks on the ground, it'll disappear for good.

Makabi, they disappear for good if you don't play version 1.0034 and put them on the ground - and they disappear if you steal Penumbra's dagger and have these lockpicks in your inventory - but in this case they're IN the guard house desk again, in all versions.

About disappearing stuff in general: When you're encumbered this might happen (weight bug).

In a game started after installing the 1.34 patch, you can drop the lockpicks on the ground.

If you broke Finnigan's lockpick by using the Lockpick skill (a bug in the 1.29 version), installing the patch will put them back in Commander Kratus' desk, to be re-stolen.

With regular lockpicks, one breaks every time you successfully pick a lock.

I know this is off topic, but speaking of dropping things on the ground, do not drop chests outdoors or they will disappear on you. The only way I've found to retrieve the items is to enter a building, then do the shift-scroll across the map to where the chest is. While in a building you will be able to see the chest outdoors. Click on the chest and your guy will run there and open it even though he can't see it.

Yeah I'm pretty new to the forums here so I'd probably revisit stuff I've discovered recently while playing. Although at least I had a new solution to the invisible chest that didn't involve telekinesis! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

It appears I can't reply to that thread for some reason. One other thing I thought I'd mention, is I somehow linked 2 chests together. I have a chest solely for storing all the potions I've found in the game. One time I found a chest in the game, that had a ton of potions. When I got it back to my house I realized it was identical in content to my potion storage chest. So I set them side by side thinking I just got a ton of extra potions for free. Then I noticed when I took from one chest, it also disappeared from the other one. I even tried moving one of the chests to a completely different area, and still they were linked in their content. Strange eh?
