Yes, you can, discovered this yesterday: Go from flat to threaded view, then the reply button is active

heh Kiya...the reason I had to figure out somehow to get the stuff out of the chest is I left a couple of quest items (manuscripts or letters) in the chest and couldn't complete a couple quests. I've found this disappearing chest happens everytime I drop a chest outdoors, although I haven't played around with it too much.

Ah, I see - I experimented the disappearing chest syndrome for a short while. I had already found out in my very first game that chests turning dark are a problem. I normally have a chest near the Ars teleporter, cause I didn't bother with a house. But these disappearing chests in all of my games always came from the castle! I didn't have probs with other ones - if I wasn't encumbered, of course. If I was, I quickly dropped an item, cause I didn't want to lose stuff

Barrels are safe, if I didn't click on them in combat mode - what I'd like to know: Did your disappearing chests come from other places than the castle? Or did they disappear if you were encumbered? Or if you stacked them and then took them up in your inventory? This bug fascinates me.
Kiya

Sidenote: Nope, I'm not wise - German saying: Even a blind hen finds a corn

hmm I don't believe any of the chests I used came from the castle, however I am pretty sure the chest with the potions that somehow got linked was from Stormfist. They never disappeared in my inventory, just after I dropped them on the ground anywhere outside.

I had a house in the main starting zone until I grew out of it with my massive packratting ways. I moved into the Cursed Abbey pretty early in the game. It has huge halls to store my 50 chests all around, and close beds to sleep in. Also, it's rather close to a transporter.

One item I did have disappear on me was a barrel of poison. I had stacked 3 of them in my inventory and when I was messing with putting them in a chest one disappeared for good.

I'll test the invisible chest more tonight. I need to finish up the treasure map quest then do the Council ending too.

Side note: I took 8 years of German classes in High School and College... probably don't remember much about it being 6-7 years removed from college though...

thanks for your info - guess, you were encumbered with 3 poison barrels, hm? Yes, my chests also disappeared if I put them on the ground - please, look if yours turn dark as shown in the pic then, ok?

Have fun with the treasure map quest
Kiya

don't torture yourself with German - I do understand English and if not, I usually ask via PM

Come to think of it my chests are still invisible out there. I can simply jump in a house and take a screenshot of them when I get home from work.

You get that with different chests. As far as I know only chests from dungeons. I've had it happen with 2 or 3 in different games.
So you probably could try with other chests too.

Thanks for all the advice. On further study, I'm convinced there is a bug here somewhere. I can find some lockpicks and a while later (the first time I try to pick a lock), they are gone.

The hex editor hack work like a champ, however, so I'm back in action.

Thanks again.

"In any version, he gives you a quest to steal his magic unbreakable (with the patch) lockpicks."
