In your config.div text file append this line at the end.

[color:"yellow"] startup logo 0

This should stop the two logo binks from being played. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

For those who get really tired from voice comments like:

"How wonderful"
And
"I wonder what that just did"

Append this line at the end also.

[color:"yellow"] voice comments 0

Kind regards.

There is also an option in the sound settings to turn character comments off.

I don't agree with you. What is the salvation ?
I like to hear my character talking.
In Riftrunner the dialog is fully spoken, will you cut off the voices too ?

It is just the comments every time you mix potions (try that 20 times in a row), pull levers, etc. that get repetitive/annoying.

Perhaps there should be a timer, say 60 seconds, between repeating any one comment. For mana and stamina, it should also reset the timer to zero if you use a potion so those who churn through those resources quickly don't lose out.

Hi Barta,
Please do not confuse the spoken dialogues with the “actions” voice comments.
Try opening your skills plate and using 30 points you have accumulated and you shall curse the day that you were born listening to “How wonderful” and “That was nice” for 30 times, 15 times for each but alternatively. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Turning off voice comments does not affect the spoken dialogues at all.

Turning off the “logo binks” is a great blessing too.

Regards.

thanks for the heads-up, DAD, but i know these already. i think i learnt it from raze, or was it barnabus, or maybe kiya? i think it's in the official FAQ or tips, tricks & hints or something like that.

what would be really nice, especially for future games like RRR & DD2 is to have a default setting of playing intro only once with option to enable/disable in the options/configuration/settings.

having to open up config.lcl file & then edit/add/subtract the contents is not friendly. it's obvious as we can see lews's reaction. sure we can teach those who do come over to the forum but what of those who do not go to the internet or have no internet connection?

btw, i'm too lazy to check the game manual so i don't know if this tip is in it or not.

@janggut
The manual begins with installation, system requirements and then a brief troubleshooting guide.
Then there are the main game menu options that include a sound option to turn off voice comments.
But I could not find any option on turning off the logo Binks. It must be done manually by editing the config.div file.

I also raised this point before but I got no answer, so I hacked my way through the executable to know my options and I found what I was looking for.

didn't know about that, bud. i must've missed it. plus i assumed (yeah i know, i shouldn't) that most DD fans know this 'commandline in a config file' trick so i didn't mention about it. should've put more meat in my posts, huh?

anyway, preventing resolution switch can be done that way as well.

Hi janggut

In [Riftrunner >> Suggestions]

Under the thread [Bypassing the introductory movies ]

Here is a link to your reply.

Your post

No one in the entire thread mentioned anything that helped me, so I helped myself.

Kind regards.

Hi it is now 2008 with a new and last update.

I was wondering where and how to do the changes to the loading. Where can they be found in the latest update?

Tanks

The '..\Divine Divinity\Run\config.div' file is plain text, and can be opened in any text editor (such as Notepad).
Run Notepad, click on File | Open, browse to where you installed the game (default is 'c:\Program Files\Divine Divinity'), then keep going to the 'Run' subfolder, and finally open the 'config.div' file. Type (or copy / paste) in the [color:"orange"]startup logo 0 line, and save the file. The next time you start the game, the intro videos should not be played.

NOTE: if you add the 'startup logo 0' line to the end of the file, hit the Enter key before saving. The game expects the last line of the file to be blank, and ignores it.
Lines starting with double slashes are comments, and are also ignored by the game.

With the latest game version, skipping the intro videos will eliminate the need for the Play CD, except for a couple cases (the blessing ceremony, after hitting the gong late in the game, and at the end of the game). These are the same limitations as with the no-CD hack.
The version number is shown in the bottom right corner of the main menu (latest is 1.0034A, otherwise you may need the patch). The DVD version has already been updated, CD versions may or may not be, depending on when they were produced.

The only config.div file I've been able to find opens with DivX. Where is the one you were meaning, as there is another config file, only this sets the video settings for the game.

On doing a little checking, it seems that the install WAS faulty, so I'm doing a re-install as we speak. Maybe then the config.div text file will be there! I should still have my saves as i backed them up to a separate folder, and can easily restore them, though I'm not far enough into the game to worry about losing them altogether in necessary.
