Pet peeve.
The dang 'Windows' quick key (a frigging useless key if there ever was one) is right next to the 'alt' key...TOO near. Usually I am aware enough to keep my finger resting on the alt key for quick deployment and to look around wherever I happen to be. However, at 2am when I am experiencing 'mind-haze' it is quite easy to press that windows key by mistake. It does not *usually* completely crash the game, but it does send the game into conniptions and always screws up the sound so bad I have to save and restart to begin play again.
1. Is there a way to 'disable' the windows key in a control panel somewhere? I have tried sticking pieces of toothpicks under it to prevent the problem, but it hurts and my wife gets upset at my 'unauthorized modifications' for my 'silly game'(grrrrr! she knows NOTHING! heh heh)
2. I have tried physically ripping the key off, but my wife caught me, and 'put the kaibash' on that action.
3. Am I the only loser who can't seem to put my fingers in the right spot ...(again... my wife comments on this one sarcastically as well) LOL
Sincerely (from a devoted alt key addict)

My boyfriend had the same problem... one day he came home VERY excited... he found a keyboard (black even!) that has no Windows key!! He loves it.
Prior to that what he'd do is remove the key, break the part off that made contact and then put the key back on. The key was lower than the rest, but it fixed the problem and didn't leave an empty socket.
Also, if I remember correctly it seems to me that I once had a keyboard that came with software that allowed me to disable my Windows key... but I obviously don't have it anymore

You might be able to disable the key with a Windows Tweak program. I don't know of any off the top of my head. Larian should include this feature (Disable Window key) in their coming games.

let me share with u my way of avoiding the windows key.
i usually rest my palm by hovering just above CTRL, SHIFT, windows, \, Z keys with my thumb resting on the spacebar & my middle finger on the tab key. that way, when the game jumped me (i can't recall which scene/part made me jump), i automatically pressed the spacebar which pauses the game. this give me time to assess the situation & not pressing the wrong key.
by resting my left hand that way, i can easily slide my thumb from the spacebar to alt-key without hitting windows key by mistake.
learn your twitch & make it work for u.

Yeah, I usually try to play with one section of the keyboard. You should see my keyboard configurations for FPS games! The only problem is that Divine Divinity uses the whole keyboard for it's hotkeys, particularly the F1-12 keys, somy hand has to keep moving.

Nope. I have done it quite a bit! Hate it, but I do find it useful in some circumstances...boss is walking by and I need to get it off the screen...wife is entering the room and I am needing to get rid of the x rated game! Has its pros and cons, but namely cons!

FYI- 'Bogmonkey' is not a typo...it refers to the mummified remains of monkeys found (oddly enough) in some European bogs. The Monkeys looked lifelike and surreal even after several hundred years (due to an odd curing process that occurs with all the tannin in the moist depths), I like that. And there you go...
P.S. Thanks to the poster with the key fixes - that did the trick! I no longer have to deal with the nasssssty problem anymore.

Interesting. Do you have some resources (texts, links) about that for me ?
By the way, there exists a collection mady by Microsoft employees called the "Kerneltoys", which include a small program / driver which disables the windows key, if I remember correctly.

What I want is something that will just disable the leftmost windows key (I use ctrl and alt on the left of the keyboard). Hmm. <Goes off to search the web>

Then you might try looking for the above mentioned "Kerneltoys".
