Is there any way that our enemies could possibly be a little less lobotomised in Riftrunner than they are in Divinity? If I unconcernedly beat the crap out of a demon while standing up to my waist in big nasty looking flames that he's summoned, it'd be great if he could figure out that summoning more flames is not going to be as effective as he'd hoped. Plus, while I rather like using the 'hide behind burning wall' tactic, I would suggest that it shouldn't work on any critter with any sort of sentience. Not too many critters should try to make a beeline for you if it involves walking through savage looking lightning - walk around, idiots.

Hell yeah agreed!

The AI of these creatures is low.

i would go even further - don't I always.

i would like for enemies to actually run when the AI determines they will be killed if they get on. now, some creatures are stupid and will go on, but a demon or anything with a bit of a brain may want to flee. I mean, when i fight a Steel Lord and he summons an aid that in turn summons many warriors and archers...I flee when i need to. it would be nice if intelligent beings also run fro me! hahahahaha! And recuperate in a dark corner to strike at you unexpectedly from behind if you dont kill them and let them go or IF they manage to escape my wrath, muahahahahah!

That would be so cool! Argh. What am i saying. I haven't see one game with a decent creature AI yet. Must be very hard to program. It is no fun constantly having to chase creatures, so dont do it that way, but it is also less fun to constantly wade through stupid creatures. Perhaps creatures could havea tag that tells em : I have to attack or my master will eat me alive so i will go on and sacrifice myself or do the opposite: my master may need me alive, we'll wear em down together but I can heal and fight another day.

yeah. creature AI. One of these days I am gonna write more about that I think.

Do you mean something like "Ah, Fire Spells don't work, so let's try Cold Spells " ?

This a great Idea, but only for upper lever deamon threads (programmers joke <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />). I still would like to hava a "conga line of death" once in a while <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

like a level boss who has a "known creatiure" skill, and knows your weaknesses. and then (if possible ) use this knowledge to it advantage <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

so what ur saying Chairchucker is that stoopid creatures like skeletons would carry on fighting and stuff. But inteleegent creatures like lizards would run away or go round burning walls and hellspikes.

yeah good idea. mght i add that there could be induvidual personalities for different creatures so yhat while one orc warrior has no honour and runs away some of them continue o fight on. it could be a script incorpewrated into thier patrol behavior pattern thing.

I have the absolute killer-skill !!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" />

It reads : "Make Monsters think". <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" />

What's the result of Thinking on Skeletons, we have witnessed that in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> 1 . Other big, but stupid might easily be driven mad - non-fighting, that is <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" /> - by presenting high-level philosophical problems to them ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" />

Yes but not only to that extent. If they can build small robots that play soccer in a perimeter why can't a game developper program similar routines.

That is an excellent idea. Just another routine basically based on a random number generator. When the number rolls a certain number a creature may run. Goes into panick mode <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> Opens up new possibilities. Why not set him on fire so he can scorch his pals. That will then shoot him for his madness. Buys you some time and...

it would be awesome to actually see it happen, to SEE that enemies display behaviour based on your and their own actions. I rather see a fight with 4 creatures that have a good AI than mindless endless streams of steel archers.

I'd like to see the AI using set piece attacks, for example casters standing about 50' behind a rank of warriors. If the warriors are defeated the casters fall back.. or if you try to flank the warriors, they fall back to intercept you and the casters fall back so they're 50' behind them..

Archers should move to flank front line attackers, thier arrows should harm their own side and possibly cause reprisals, like in diablo, if one mob hits another they fight it out...

Luring to ambush, a warrior runs out to you, attacks then retreats.. you follow and get ambushed..

Simple stuff... atm only seen in massively multiplayer online games.

Even basic stuff like npc teammates healing each other, giving support fire..

They had ambushes. Remember all of the "paths of gold" that led deep into the woods? But you're right, they could make them even more exciting!

That was hardly an ambush because you had a little time to run away because they cam out of the trees to the north, am i right. so u could just run away o the south. without even getting hit once. larian could have made it better by having a small group of orcwarriors coming up from the south (on patrol <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />) so they ran into u if u decided not to fight.
