yeah, thats a good idea, it is kinda annoying but then again charms arent really very rare <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

My opinion on removable charms is this. Make them removeable, but at a price. This is something I wished was possible in D2 also. It makes no sense that you can add something to an item, but later on, can't remove it for an upgrade or to use in another item.

Destroying the socket would defeat the purpose in some cases. Paying for the removal of a charm would eventually be way to easy. So....what is the solution?

Well, IMO, make it a quest. This would work in DD as well as in D2.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" /> With D2, Larzak is the NPC in act 5 who you get the socket quest from. It never made any sense to me that he could add socket(s), but can't remove a rune/jewel/gem from one. What kind of blacksmith/toolmaker/jeweler is that? And the items he makes for Anya to give you are........Oops, that's another rant for another forum. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />

In DD, there are only "charms", so what would it hurt to be able to remove them to upgrade? Even if a quest inabled the removal of only 1, that would be better then having a charm found early in the game "stuck" in the item.

I think it would be a good idea for a blacksmith/jwerler(sp) to beable to uncharm an item for a price like 2,000 for a minor charm, 5,000 for a meduim charm, 10,000 for a large charm and 20,000 for a very large charm. This would be good because the price would vary depending on how much the charm is worth. Also maybe you could only have a few blacksmiths/jwerlers(sp) be able to take out charms(ie. the dwarven blacksmith/dwarven jwerler in the caves or Geoff)

I don't like this.
When you find new item and look at the old one (with charms) it's just old junk, it has served it's purpose, sell it or throw it away, and find yourself another one!
There is challenge in looking for new different charms, otherwise you can calculate which charms do you need and not look for any others (like 2x poison, 3x str etc). Too simple and boring!

So the player saves the game before having the charm removed, then reloads if this small chance happens to occur and it fails? Hmpf!

Whats the point of removable charms? The whole idea is that the player has to make a choice that can have both good and bad consequences; charm an item now for increased abilities at the risk of later finding a better charm/item with better base attributes.

If your able to remove a charm with a penalty, perhaps a charm could lose a grade/level in quality?

I don't agree with removable charms. Charms in themselves are already overpowering to the game; being able to add 400hp or mana to an item simplfies things too greatly. If charms were to be removable, it would take this one step further <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

What I'd like to see is not removable charms, but charms that have a random set of stats, not the preset +10str/con +80mana/hp etc.

I think it is close to another thing. Why not to make respeccable skills?

This will not work guys and just ruin the game making too overpowered chars.

I agree. It bugged me that you could do that in Tony Hawk 3. Playing each character meant nothing when you could just redistribute their starting stat points.

This is what i like most! You must be careful which weapon to enchant. Ok i charmed a weapon with charm quality 2 and then i found a similar with charm quality five. I just got it with me and when i found more stones i used it as my primary weapon. There are plenty of stones in the game. You can even buy them!

This exists as a normal ability in Harbinger. Mod-chips upgrade your weapon capabilities and are easily inserted and removed. Just in the demo I started playing like this:

"Oh, I'm up against Bugs now. Well, I'll just remove the 3 Plasma mod-chips that I needed against the Infanty men and insert my 3 Electricity chips, 'cos they fry bugs good."

And barely a bug touched me, just like the Infanty before hand. They couldn't live long enough to challange me, and since I could fire from a distance, I just pealed off a couple of shots once in a while to hit anything ahead of me. It was boring and unchallenging.

Yes, the concept is interesting. But, this will work if there are few weapons and few charms in the game. Then there is sence in equiping and un-equiping.

I see it, as you have just one rifle and no other rifles with different stats in the game and fight mobs with different resistances applying different chips to your rifle.

This game is about looking for new weapons (rifles <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />), for new charms.
Look at the amount of them in the game, I can say developer encourages you to look for more, for better. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

In Sacred, the removal of things equivalent to our "Charms" is planned - for a price. You must give the local smith a fee for doing that.

Unfortunately, you do find bigger and better rifles with more slots for mod-chips. And then you can apply them to your armour and helmet as well.

What if you could optionally apply the charms to yourself, so you could wield any weapon or armour, but carry on the bonuses?

Hmm, you think about augmenting character?
Why not.
Augment legs for faster running.
Augment eyes for better seeing.

PST had a great idea on augmenting through tattoos <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
DeusEx had the same through implants.
You could take tattoos off but you never could uninstall implants. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />
