I'm pretty sure that it opens the chest in his house.

It should open a chest inside the dwarfs house but me for instance at the end of the game I had a chest of keys

If not a chest in his house, it could be for one of the empty houses in the north of Aleroth. I don't remember the start of the game in minute detail, but keys are usually in the general vicinity of what they open. I think I had collected about a dozen keys by the end of the game, presumably for chests / doors that I opened with Lockpick before finding the right key.

thats all I did with my keys, I think by the time I hit the gong I has something like 20 keys just sitting is my house. What I got anoyed with is that I decided to lock pick something open and then I get the key right after I did that.

why waste locpicks when you can get one with unlimited uses in Verdistis by doing (well, ALMOST doing) Finnegan's quest?

But this works only if you installed latest patch.
Before that, Finningan's lockpicks are breakable.

Yeah I was thinking of keeping the lock picks but I decided to give them up and try and finish all the quests that I could(then I found out that I botched up a lot of them). I think the next I get too that part I will keep them.

Shinma, don't feel bad. I didn't find out about the Agility boost until after I gave the lockpicks back.
Next time through, I'm keeping them.

One this I was thinking of doing also is seeing how many keys I can have at the end of the game.

If you enter the Blue Boar Inn, you get a quest for Verdistis or poor quarters - you can enter it at your own will, no linearity. It's NE on the Rivertown map, path to the new Rivertown map, see the road in NE? click here The map is from Planetdivinity, Moriendor.
