As we all know this is an outstanding game, and we have high hopes that Beyond Divinity will be even better. However, while everybody has heard of Diablo and Diablo is still on all the shelves and listed on the top 10 at Gamespot, few know about DD and it is hard to find. Good marketing and promotion are what is needed besides a top notch product. Now I personally am not a marketing guy, and I don't have the skills to design and run a fansite. However I can promote the game by telling gamer friends about it, and most of my gamer friends are online. So I have started threads about DD and BD at the boards I frequent or used to frequent including one I just posted 20 minutes ago at diabloii.net sp forum. It has had 5 people view it thus far. Maybe folks have already been doing this and I am behind the times, but I thought I would put the idea out there.

Yes, I believe that with this Forum Larian has quite an effective and cost-efficient (meaning it costs nothing ) marketing-base.

The only dangerous thing is that people might consider writing about as Spam. So please be careful ! We don't want to reduce the reputation of going down because of people considering us as Spammers !

Your point is well taken. That is why I am only doing it in a couple of forums where I alresdy am known.

Cleg,

I know you're not interested in building a fansite but for those who are, there is a fansite kit that can be downloaded at GameSpy's File Planet. Here's the link: Beyond Divinity Fansite Kit

If you can't get in that link, here's a link to File Planet's Home Page. Just search for "Divine Divinity" or "Beyond Divinity".

I love to build websites but I simply don't have the time. If I get a spare moment or two, I'll add the kit or some info on my personal website (such as it is!).

I'm sure Larian's marketing team is already working on Beyond's publicity. My publisher works on a game's marketing once a release date has been set. And in my (limited) experience every company seems to handle marketing each product in a specific manner.

I like the idea of this fansite kit. I searched the Beyond Divinity site to see if I could find a download for the kit, but couldn't find it. Maybe I didn't look hard enough or in the right places. *g*

And yes, Alrik made a good point about discussing another publishers games. Advertising is good, but we don't want to step on the toes of others. If you're well-known at other sites and they permit discussions about other RPGs, that's terrific - go for it.

Great topic!

You can find this link through the news page. Maybe not the most efficient way, but afaik, the only one ...

Thanks Kejero and Jurak,

I knew someone far wiser than I could find the kit on Larian's site. Good work! Btw, I took a look at your website, Kerjero. That too, is good work! (very creative).

G'day all!

P.S. I didn't mean to overlook Jurak's site (I liked that too). Did you use the FanKit to create it? Great job on the walk-through.

Its definately all about promoting when it comes to company's getting an unknown game out there in the market. Especially a small company like Larian who is just starting out and not exactly wealthly. Ask yourself's this what made you buy Divine Divinity in the first place, I ended up buying it because a leaflet came through my door one day about a week or two before the game came out and it showed some screenshots and listed all the features that the game had and I thought it sounded great and I was into Diablo anyway so the day it came out I went to Game and bought it.

Soon after DD came out it was getting great reviews across the net so that helped a lot too. In the UK on its first week of release DD charted at No.2 in the PC Charts which I thought was amazing, I could barely see it scraping the top 10 as Larian were a small company and I didn't think enough people would hear about it. So I think it has done pretty well here in the UK, excellent considering its Larian's first major PC release but it still didn't get the sales it deserved and hopefully for Beyond Divinity larian can spend a good bit more on marketing the game so more people hear about it. DD is miles better than Diablo and a lot more work has been put into it anyone can clearly see that, so it deserves the success of Diablo.

All I can say is I'm pretty far into DD now and it has me hooked Pro Evo 3, Battlefield 1942, SSX3 aren't getting played anymore cause of this little gem, the story is so damn good and the desire to get a level up is so damn high.

So good luck to the guys at Larian for the future and hopefully the DD series will turn out a big success.

Oh and Hi I'm new to the forum

@ Spikeout, Welcome to the forum! That is the first time in my memory I have heard of how hit the charts in the U.K.. Excellent! I was also quite the Diablo player...Uhum, still am. After 2 years of playing Diablo I was looking for a game to take its place. I scoured my gaming mags looking for something, anything! Then came page 16 of P.C. Gamer. A ad for the only one I ever saw. I got online and downloaded the demo. The rest is history.

Welcome, Spikeout!

Larian aren't all that new. They've been making games for at least 7 years now. Their first major release was LED Wars and then they stuck to a lot of smaller projects before they came up with the idea for Divine Divinity. But I know what you mean. They are small and weren't particularly prominent in the industry until recently.

I don't suppose Larian would like to make LED Wars a free download, given it's age and lack of availability? <hopeful> It's all the rage now-a-days!

It would be nice if they did that... But if you're really desperate, you could probably it on one of the abandonware floating around the net.

I agree about the promoting the game in a more efficient way.

I had a post a while back telling people how I came accross DD and was awe struck that I had never heard mention of this great and fun game before.

I was looking for a different game at the time and the title of DD cought my eye. It seemed like a strange title and I wondered just how good could this game be. I read the back and figured I would give this game a shot.

I am soooo glad that I did not pass this game up. I am having a lot of fun with it. Besides the gameplay etc. I love all of the references to other games, characters, stories, puns, and enuendoes (sp?) etc. There are many funny and amusing things in the game that make it even more enjoyable to play.

I can't wait for Beyond Divinity to come out!! I will purchase it as soon as it hits the shelves!

Well, have fun,

Pystal
