Hi,

I did the mistake of teleporting away after I removed the Sword from the Stone. Everybody's dead.
Furthermore, I played A LOT since, before I noticed, so I can't just take a savegame.

I read about NPC revival, but I don't even know who to resurrect (I had not yet been in the elven village).
What's more, the quest forthe funeral urn has been noted as failed, so what would happen if I revived the man? I guess the quest would still be failed wouldn't it?

What is exactly in the .dat file?
Rather than resurrecting people one by one, couldn't I just replace that .dat file with the one from the save just before I removed the Sword?

I would keep my level and equipment.
But what about equipment on the floor?
What about the quests I did since?
What about the monsters and treasure?

Thanks a lot. I really am upset about that.

Greg

GregTtr, First off welcome to the forum. I personally do not know anything about the DAT file. I am sure someone will be along to guide you with that. From my understanding if you keep the Sword in the Stone, you might as well forget about it. You cannot fix it. They are dead. Dead! (that sword was really nice though, huh?) From what I gathered about it, is that you just whomp up on the ghost then replace it. If you do not, the ghost kills everything in the forest. The fix if any is to load a savegame or restart your game...sorry

Thanks.
I guessed that much
However, tempering with the savegmes, I should be able to do something.
The question is, how?...

I won't reload a savegame (I've gained 4 levels since), nor will I restart the game, unfortunately.
I've read the procedure to revive NPCs by editing saves with hexadecimal values. This is what I'll do to if nothing else is available. But I really think copy/pasting a previous .dat file from an old savegame would work, the question is: What will I lose by recovering my NPCs...

Thanks, and see you

The data.000 file basically defines your character (stats, skills, experience points, class, gender, etc.) and keeps track of all NPC locations and status, in addition to storing your own location, and some quest information.
If you replace the data.000 file with a previous version, you would loose the experience, stats and skills gained since then. I think most quests would probably be ok (remain solved if you solved them, or be solvable if you have not) but you would loose the experience points and any skill rewards for those completed since the previous save. You would keep all equipment and items in your inventory, in containers or on the floor. Monsters you killed since the previous save would be restored, treasure would stay looted.

OK, thanks a lot.
Then it seems my only choice is to revive the necessary NPCs.
Do you have their names that I can find them?
I'm looking for any important NPC of the forest that would get killed by the undead of the sword.
I guess there is that NPC for the funeral urn, and the Romance NPC (I play a woman, if that indicates the name for the male romance NPC).
Is there anyone else?
Is there any useful merchant or skillbook selling character?

Thanks.

Some of the Dark Forest NPCs are named on Kiya's site. With a female character the elven male is Elean (elven female is Eleanessa). Maybe one of these walkthroughs would include the names?

If you start a new game (or make a copy of the save before removing the sword) and bump up your stats with iZakaroN's SaveEditor (or from Kiya's site, with description), you could run around getting names.

elven village - there is one merchant, and the elf by the well
warrior's guild - Alrik, you can learn a skill from the weapons master in the practice ring
general - the alchemist has a minor quest for you... there are a couple others who you meet in two places, so the reviving procedure might not work. Bringing the collectors back might not help, since the quest is already marked as failed. I don't know if the ghost kills those in Boratus' house, but his appearance is in a cut scene, so he may still be alive.

OK, thank you.
I tried to revive them and didn't succeed. I gave up for the moment, never mind.

No essential NPCs will be killed, so you will just miss out on some experience and a couple of quest rewards.

No, he is protected, and can not be killed (at least not by the ghost).

Before the 1.34 patch you could kill Geomoe, Joram and Otho (the first and one of the others are required to complete the game). Apparently the Larians were not taking homicidal players into account, just possible NPC attacks.

I beat the fighter in the basement of the dwarven bar. I then (justfor kicks)
started to kill him. Guess what, he can't die. lol

Easy way to kill him is just to throw your weapon in the ring of corse that's probaly cheating, but I felt poison skin wasn't worth a skill point that is if your talking about the bar fight
