Ok I bought the damn thing yesterday (sorry for the language but I am angry). I installed it to my pc. And it doesn´t play. Nope <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" />

I purchased the gold editon which includes the expansion. I installed NWN first and then the expansion. I clicked on the short cut and the main menu appears. And when I click play I see the loader screen for a while and then it desappears and I see my desktop again.

My pc features :

Pentium IV 2,53 Ghz
40 GIGA hard disk (I have about 16 giga free)
Windows XP home edition
256 MB RAM
Video Card GFORCE 2 (but I don´t know any other details)
Sound card compatible with Directx

I have recently changed my monitor to a Samsung 17´´TFT LCD. I don´t know if this causes the problem. I also found in tecnical support of NWN this :

" Neverwinter Configuration tool not detecting very new CPUs
If you have a 2.2 ghz or higher CPU, the Config Tool may not find the right information in regards to the speed. If it reports your CPU can't handle the game, you can adjust the settings to what you'd like to use."

Last night I have tried all the possible changes but still the game does not launch.

Please I know that you could help me because all of you know so many things. If you want any more details about my system I could provide them to you in the afternoon because at the moment I am at work.
Please note that I have purchased the original game.

I thank you all in advance. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

It says on the game package that the version needed for playing the game is included. Does directx check at the prosess of instalation the version and make the changes needed?

Try changing not only ingame but your display settings also.

is your graphic card driver updated?

[color:"orange"] For several months no

You should check for updates. Carefully follow installation tips.

You should update directx and after that video drivers.
for directx version press start->run-> type -> dxdiag. You will see version.

This depends on how sensitive is NWN towards any other programs running in background.

I had actually the same problem on my friend's PC running Prince of Persia.
His problem was - insuficcient RAM. It maybe be the same with you. Check NWN readme for minimum requirements.
I would suggest upgrade RAM in both cases to at least 512Mb

1. Shut down all programs running in the background.
2. Update the drivers of your sound card and video card -- yes, it bloody well matters. Don't be lazy.
3. Download the latest patch for the game. For obvious reasons.
4. Installation wizard should check your DirectX version. If your system hasn't gotten the version required, it should prompt you to install a newer version (which, yes, is included in the CD. Should be, anyway). Also try to install the latest version of DirectX manually.

With your system's specs, you shouldn't really have any problem unless you've also got HotU (which eats quite a bit more resource than the original and SoU).

I will try but I am afraid <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />

that is what I am afraid. I will mess things up!

Can´t do that alone. I know that it is only a chip that you add but I don´t know those things. So I have to call someone to fix it. But my Ram is IN the minimum requirements. I have checked it out.

Yes i thought so. It is a good system. I mean if I put a better video card the system is ok. You know I think I am doing something wrong.

Btw my new monitor had a program called Nature colours. I have installed that. Does that really matter?

Here we go. I checked bioware for sys reqs
http://nwn.bioware.com/underdark/requirements.html

for winxp
RAM
required 256, recommended 512

video card
required 32 MB video card with Hardware T&L support* ** recommended 64 MB video card with Hardware T&L support*

[color:"orange"]I am not lazy. I don´t know how. I am afraid that I will mess all things up.

Go to microsoft site, http://www.microsoft.com/directx
To go directly to the "Home User Downloads" section of the Microsoft DirectX site, follow this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/downloads

There is also faq and installation tips. Read carefully.

After you update directx, go to your card manufacturer site, which is www.nvidia.com
look for newest drivers for your video card.
Read all installation tips very carefully. Write down every step.
You will have to uninstall your existing drivers first.

Do the same with your sound drivers.

Download the latest patch for the game. For obvious reasons.

[color:"orange"]Which is?

Check for latest at bioware site. Latest usually have all previous versions included. Check that. I have never played NWN.

---------
It may. Try to disable it first (not uninstall) and see what happends.

And as for dxdiag - this is a diagnostic tool. Don't affraid to use it. You will get info on your directx, sound and video drivers there.

I don't know the answer, but I can tell you that I run it on my system without any problems. These are my stats:
ME
AMD 1.2 GHz
Nvidia GeForce 2 mx 400 (64 MB)
12.9 GB space left on hard drive
256 MB RAM
Windows is managing virtual memory settings
Creative Labs Sound blaster Live Value sound card
high color 16 bit

I don't have the expansion installed.
I also run it on my notebook which has
xp
ati radeon 9000 mobile
2.0 GHz
512 MB RAM

I tried running it on my old desktop, but got very choppy performance. That was W98
6000MHz
32 MB video card
256 MB RAM

Check the Readme file. Maybe there is an answer in there. Try the official website too.

Back up your nwnmain.exe file. Back up your whole NWN folder if you must. And believe me, drivers generally don't murder your computer unless you're really unlucky or the producer is that incompetent. I've never had any problem with, say, NVidia drivers. Download file, follow wizard...

Load up NWN and hit the "update" button. It detects your version automatically and downloads the patch for it. Believe me, it won't get you the patch for HotU or something. It all but holds your hand and leads you through the process.

Your 6000 Mhz is your old desktop?? I would like to see your new one <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

In my opinion you just need new drivers.

Guys I thank you so much for taking the time to help me. How do I unisnstall the old drivers? This is the difficult part. I have never done this. Oh gee sometimes I feel so helpless!

And something else : I first install NWN, then update it, then install the expansion and then update it again, or I install first the game and expansion and then make the updates?

BTW Baldurs´Gate 2 runs perfect in my system. And the expansion too. If this is any help.

U don't need to uninstall your old drivers, just download the new one and install them. Then restart your pc, and it all should work fine.

@ Merendrious you know I love you don´t you?

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

You always explain to me things and try over and over again and I understand them. Thnx.

@ Egine

You got in so much trouble to bring me all those links. Thnx a lot <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Then I will update my drivers. The thing as Merendrious told, seems simple. Like installing a patch for a game. I trust that there is a detection program that checks what drivers I need ?

You do need to uninstall drivers for video card. At least it is strongly recommended for all ATI video cards.

Well, your computer could run BG2 or the great Poohbah of the world and still have problems with NWN. They are two very different softwares.

Detection program for driver version? Not that I know of. Select it manually here: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
