I have this bow that is 11-148, 15 recovery time.
I have a crossbow that is 54-99, speed 2, 18 recovery time.

Now, with bow skills i realize that i can get really fast shooting time, 3 recovery time with 5 levels.

And with my crossbow, Bolts do 10+30 extra damage.
When i try level 3 crossbow I should get 20+40 damage.
I would like to use the crossbow skill instead of bows although bows are clearly better with rapid fire.

So, my concern is this:
Why, with level 3 crossbow and 54-99base, is my maximum damage actually inflicted on trolls and orcs usually 75, maximum i've seen is 98 damage.
When I use the 11-148 bow I get sometimes 17 damage and a lot of the time I hit 120 or 130.

And i've tried using my spear level 1 and level 2, the passive damage is applied properly there... about 20 extra damage per attack, per level to my spear skill.

The passive damage with my crossbow doesn't seem added.
Anyone know? I have the latest patch.

FYI, in the stats pane damage range, the damage bonus due to strength is included, though it only applies to melee attacks.

That is because it is not. True Shot and the damage portion of Crossbow Expertise are broke. Before the 1.34 patch, all weapon expertise with a fixed range damage bonus (rather than percentage) were broke.

If you can not re-load, you can use iZakaroN's SaveEditor (or from Kiya's site, with description) to remove the skill points you put into Crossbow Expertise.

I'm not entirely happy with that..
Crossbows skill points are broke??
I havnt applied the crossbow skills yet i was testing it and have saved up skillpoints at level 14 so the saved game is ok.

Which version should I play to use the crossbow skills?
(I was replaying the game just to use it for style)

Unfortunately, the crossbow skill has always been broke. The patch fixed some of the skill problems, but not that or True Shot.
Even without these skills, though, archers can be quite powerful, especially with a large sight range.

I'm pretty sure no version has the correct crossbow skill and True Shot effects. This is particularly irritating to me, 1) because I ALWAYS make characters that use crossbows and 2) how hard is this to test for? This is the main reason I will be VERY hesitant to buy another game from Larian.

I realize CDV is probably part of the problem, but just because CDV is out of the picture (correct?) for Beyond Divinity does not automatically mean the patch support will be better. I'll wait until I am satisfied that all major bugs have been accounted for before/if I make that purchase. (Yes, I consider a skil flat out not working a pretty major bug.)

Not very hard, assuming you have time to do so. CDV released the game early, requiring quests be dropped and the ending rushed to meet their deadline.

They are out of the picture for beyond Divinity. Unlike other game developers, Larian released a couple hotfixes without any publisher support, and did much of the testing on the patch, which CDV was suppose to be responsible for. With Larian having more control over the release, and (from my impressions) better relations with publishers who actually intend to promote Beyond Divinity, I can't see how initial testing and patch support could fail to be better than with Divinity.

Well it's too bad you dont have the flexibility companies like blizzard have with deadlines. If you look at their product, because it is such quality people keep buying it over a 10 year period. Word spreads if a game truly is excellent.

And when I look at DD, I really think of this game as being the best Diablo type available due to it's depth and complexity along with challenge and cool gameplay with attention to detail, rpg essentials that are so commonly missed.

If they pay a team to on occasion fix these things I bet the revenue would more than account for it.

If I had to wait another 2 months, or even a year I would still buy the game. Marketing will only get you so far with blockbuster type games. If it really is a great game(probably Beyond Divinity is), and you manage to get it on store shelves, it will sell itself -- like Divine Divinity did.

It kind of reminds me of Lord of the Rings(on a smaller scale) and the Chronicles of Narnia.
J.r.r.Tolkein and his friend c.s. lewis were disappointed by the current fantasy reading material available, so they wrote their own epics.
++Larian fits this role++.

Actually, I'm just part of the insanely powerful fanbase... or was that powerfully insane fanbase? I don't think we ever worked that out.

Much of the delay with the patch was Larian's lack of resources, since they were working on Beyond Divinity as well as other side projects to pay the bills. As far as marketing/promotion goes, I never saw it on many shelves around here; a few places has a few copies (after it was out a bit more places had a couple copies), but if I had not seen mention of the demo being released on some web site, I may have missed the game entirely.

Yes, talk about poor marketing. I would never have heard of this game had I not stumbled accross it at a game store. The ridiculous name cough my eye. I am very glad that I took a chance on this well priced game.

It is a lot of fun. I can't wait to complete it and try out another char.

Oh, I am very happy to learn of Beyond Divinity and Divine Divinity 2.

I will purchase both of these. I know that if enough are sold, then they can continue to make their games better and better.

Without money, they can't improve anything. I really would like to see what these people can do in the future with loads of resources.

Just curious why? The latest here was listed as 13 Jun 18 but the above is from 14 years ago?

The topic was bumped by quickly deleted spam, but that doesn't reset the topic order.
It was an actual crossbow vs bow question, with someone looking for broad-tip bolts to fit their crossbow (presumably to be edited later with links or a signature; at the very least it was posted by someone who only read the topic title, and was posting from an IP reported for spamming).
