The interesting thing in communixcations is, that you NEVER hear the voices of the satisfied ones, but ALWAYS the loud ones of those complaining !

Since the beginning some people said that the DK has a bad voice.
It is not easy to jump into the thread and to say "No i don't agree with you !"
People are scared to give a different opinion, because they think that they will be the only ones and a minority in the mass.

For myself, i played the demo very lately and i did not want to give my opinion before to have finished the game.
As i said it before i like the DK voice as it is now and i am used to it.

And it is certain that if the DK voice is changed, there will be other people who will say : "The DK voice sucks".
So Larian will have to change it again and again and again......

Some people said that the voice is bad because they can't feel emotions in it.
If i was a Deathknight, i will surely have emotions but i will surely hide them, specially to my not choosen companion.

Someone already mentioned this, and I couldn't agree more with him/her:

The thing about DK's voice is that it isn't emotionless, it's just heavily under-acted, making it seem like it's emotionless. There's a difference.

Besides, even if it was emotionless, it really shouldn't be. I mean, this guy is pure evil, you should hear that in his voice. But you gotta be careful of overacting too... It's not easy getting it just right.

Although I think that Alrik is right with his comment generally, I think this is not the case here, because on every forum with comments on the demo I've read there were negative comments on the voice acting; and normally, if you comment for the first time about a game, it's not about the voice acting, so it must be something that is really conspicious.
Two examples:
Gone Gold Forums
rpgdot Forums

My favourite quote from the Gone Gold Forum:
I swear that Dark Knight isn't actually a knight at all, but a high school calculus teacher using his Voice of Extreme Boredom +3 on me.

To be honest I don't like the voice acting either, but it doesn't matter to me, as I was going to switch it off anyway.

I agree with Tovi and also whoever said he would hide his emotions would have difficulty if what a gathered was correct, that the two cursed people could read each others minds.

maybe its because i've been spoiled by all the great voice acting in other games, but the dk's acting just don't cut it. compared to the single player rpgs out there like kotor and deus ex, the acting in just doesnt' measure up to the competition.

now i wouldn't be so annoyed if the rest of the game is better; they're using 2-d graphics, the game uses a 2 year old engine with gameplay that people have complained about already (lack of targeting, bindable party selection keys, better camera control), and now the crappy voice acting...

so far it really doesn't have much going for it aside from fan loyalty. is larian betting on the fact that the (so far unproven) fun gameplay is going to win over the competition and make sales? is a person new to the universe going to be impressed by the demos' 1) 2-d graphics engine 2)inadequate UI and 3)umimpressive voice acting? i think not...

now there's nothing they can do about 1), 2) they said they're addressing, and i'm glad lars says they might be addressing 3)

I like rather 2D graphics then 3D for a RPG actually.

The negative feedback has taken us by surprise and we don't have a lot of time left, but we're looking at what we can do. Stay tuned for more...

Me too. I actually didn't like Neverwinter and Morrowind for that reason. Dungeon Siege was better - beautiful graphics, but alas no depth (characters were two-dimensional (pun intended) and the quests were crap).

As for the DK's voice, I don't think it needs changed. (But I would prefer it if it was an English accent - no offence, but American accents don't go so well with fantasy, but I'm clearly prejudiced. )

without a doubt!! larians just rock my windows & bring my system to glorious height as well as myself down to my knees.

lar, thanks for listening to us. anyway, if it's too much trouble, then just skip DK's voice improvement. i think that it's more of preferences & expectations that we're let down or feel as if we're let down.

& yann, thank u for polishing up the game & making it even better than ever.

if only all game developers are as caring as larians.

I think they do, but this forum-community is much smaller and thus it's more obvious when the developpers come in

i agree about prefering 2d over 3d but if 3ds easier and quicker for larian then its probabally better and i didnt notice any problems with the engine in fact it was probabally the best rpg engine ive played on

i rekon the 2D backgrounds and the 3D characters make a nice feeling cause unless people have far to much spare time on their hands ur not going to spend hours staring at the background in full zoom wothout moving r u?

and I made more (20), trying to find out if blue/brown suits my mage more - if she looked good with the 2-hander, axe - what her chocolate side was, if I would like her hair in a different colour - mourned that her hair was too short... took off her leather cap, tried this out... - as soon as I find a red robe, I will try everything again - I didn't like her with the 2-hander - and I wish I could see the eye colour of Doggie (Dk's name) as soon as I know how the graph animation for all spells are, I will try to find a suit matching these colours... and errhm, did I mention I'm ?
