Anyone else out there playing Sacred?

I picked this game up the other day and I think it warrants a comparison to the Divinity games since it is quite similar in many ways.

I'm only a few days into it but here's my early take on it: I'm having a lot of fun with it and Divinity fans should check it out. What more perfect time to do it than now with the delay of BD? The graphics are beautiful, the gameplay is addictive... And there's some great character classes to play with: for example I'm playing as a Vampiress and when it's night I can change form and summon bats to help me or call on other assorted bloodsucking aids. This character is a great sword fighter as well so it makes for a really a nice balance and a nice change from the strict warrior/mage/ranger/thief paradigm.

Thus far, though, I think that the story is really lacking (maybe it will pick up later...). Sacred doesn't seem to have the character development or innate humor of the Divinity games. I'm having a great time with it but I can't say that the world is drawing me in quite yet (BTW, IMHO the holy grail of story/atmosphere is Planescape Torment and I don't think that anyone will match that one any time soon).

Also, I heard that the North American release of Sacred removed most or all of the blood & gore to gain a 'Teen' rating. GoGamer and some other places offer an import version (still in English) that keeps the gore (the pooling/squirting blood FX are really quite cool )

I bought the game on Friday. Great game. There is a thread on it at RPG chat.

The Larian Board Sacred Thread (English).

I could post the German thread here too, if you wish so.

Yes, normally it's the other way round, at least here in Germany.

A valid point. I find myself yawning a bit at some points but I think that is because I've just started each character to level 10 to get a 'taste' of them. The endless groups of monsters gets a bit repetitive but DD was like what in a few places also. After reading the sacred forums there are a lot of ways to build characters so I belive a lot of 'experimentation' is in order.
Like Diablo 2, the item-hunting is a lot of fun. DD had a lot of 'fixed' items, knowing what you will get after a certain quest/battle has its advantages and disadvantages.
What DD has is more interesting quests and a unique approach to character building. Any skills can be chosen.
Sacred has basically set character stats but messing around with all the skills can give different results. Its interesting, I'm just learning to specialise with each character now.
Both games have a massive world to explore. This is a lot better than Diablo 2.

No specific opinion here as I like both games. I just tried to point out some aspects of each game. I guess I included D2 as well because you can't really avoid it. It was one of the genre-defining games after all.

Actually, I read on the Sacred forum that you can edit the config file to get gore. Just change "Violence=2" to "Violence=1". I tried it and it works.

Yup, I'm serious! I have the US version as well, and after altering the aforementioned file, occasionally my gladiator will hack off a leg leaving a spurting stump.

Oops, I just read that an updated 1.5 patch has been released to prevent the config alteration. Oh well.

ok.. i have played sacred... being quite active in the sacred board..

i would say.. sacred is kinda fun... horse riding and such.. new in RPG world. And the quest feature very nice (u will be directed to where to go)

i haven't played BD demo, but if BD is gonna be the same as DD, i would say it would be at most equal to sacred.

I played the demo, but it just didn't appeal to me at all, I know the full version has more characters and everything. Usually if a demo doesn't make me excited about the game, the full version won't either, so I guess I'll just stick to the DD universe.

75% hack-n-slash, 25% questing.

Im about 75-80% through the game with a level 40 gladiator... the storyline is pretty much boring linear.

I find the subquests more interesting... (im not sure if thats a good thing or bad thing...)

One thing for sure which sucks is that whenever you die you regenerate and continue the game with same skills and equipment.

Well, I only played the demo so far and think that it is a pretty good game.
Not everybody is going to like the game but, people that like those kind of games will. There is one thing that got my attention abou it!!!!

It is the firt game Ascaron Entertainment made a game of this genre, all
of the other games are strategy simulation(you can find the info HERE ) and just for being the first time they do make a game of this type, it is worth
triyng to understand that it is a pretty good game(for all games who like this genre of games).

Any way that is just my opinion, I will buy the game and If the quests are boring, and the storyline are worse, no matter what, I will enjoy the killing of
monsters, cool combos, great graphics, cool gameplay.

PLayed till 2AM this morning. It's just hack'n slash. Not afraid to die, as regeneration will bring me back at latest starting point.
So bring on BD.

They are very different games just like Baldur's Gate 2 and Diablo 2 were: Two good games in their respective genres. Why bother comparing apples and ... potatoes
