I always start all RPGs on the hardest setting. Doing so with divine divinity turned out to be a big mistake, even if I had the latest patch english 1.0 (1.34) at the time, it resulted in:

I had to do things in a very diffrent order from what the creators had considered, I can give alot of examples even if it was quite some time ago if anyone is intressed. However this resulted in a huge amout of bugs, so many in fact that I got tired of the game, and didn't even finish it. The other problem was the game was not hard, the only thing the hard setting did was make some monsters hard to kill, and it gave a very unbalanced feeling, like the hard setting hadn't been much considered at all, I can give examples of this aswell.

Don't make the same mistake with Beyond Divinity, I know there's only a few people that start a game on hard, but eventually people will jump to it on a second time through.

I'm the exactly opposite !
I almost always start with "easy" !

I almost always play on 'Normal' that's where the game is balanced and it is at that difficulty that most of the testing was done. I often get the feeling that the other difficulty levels are added as an afterthought.

I always start on the easiest setting, I wan't to play out a game from the first time, and don't want to start again in the middle of a game, just because it's too hard. I'm weak I know

I go with the 'Normal' setting. If I come across an area that is just to hard then I will change it to 'Easy' and then back to Normal.

i pick easy or normal, first time through...so it's.....easier.
like Merendious says, we all know how fun starting over is....
it's OK if you want to start over, but a different story if you have to!

I think when a game is designed, it's balanced on Normal level...then they up it for hard and lower it for easy. So Normal is probably the best place to start on any game as it should play how the makers wanted it to...unless they messed up!!!

I found fine...not too hard to frustrate me and not too easy to bore me. One of the few games I finished because I didn't get bored!

I usualy play on Normal mode. I like to think the story in the game is real and in the normal mode the balance is more realistic than hard or easy mode. Stupid eh?

@ Merendrious
I did not see you weak in B-Net. Palameren was a really strong Paladin

Edit: Forgive me I forgot. Welcome to the forum Sweden

Well maybe it's like in Diablo II this time, once done in easy you can try in normal, then when finished in normal you can try in hard and so on ...

Not stupid at all, as far as I'm concerned---because I do the same thing! It's comforting to know I'm not the only one who does this.

I played on normal. By the end of the game I found it TOO easy. Which made me wish I had started on hard. As for what I'm going to do in I'm not sure yet. I'll probably play on normal again... but hopefully the end is alittle more balanced and reasonably difficult.

I don't know what it is, but lately the action RPG final bosses have been very easy. The Sacred final boss was a joke, and the final boss was equally weak. So far I think only Diablo 2 has HARD bosses... and you can't even "save" before you start the fight!

Upon thinking about it more.... I think it's the "time to kill" factor. There really wasn't any boses in that took a long time to kill. Unlike Diablo 2 where you could spend 10 minutes fighting ONE boss. That makes it feel like an epic battle, and not something where I swing my sword 20 times and bang on the use potion key.

Yup, D2 did the end-of-act bosses right. At least in patch 1.10. Baal-farming was very popular in 1.09. Diablo clone though, that was a fight!

In defence of I spent at least 30mins trying to kill josie the FIRST time through. That was what drove me to this forum in the first place for advice.

It's true that most people come to this forum to find out how to defeat Josephine, or to find out why their stamina suddenly started dropping in the cursed abbey.

I play most games on normal, the one game where I couldn't was Evil Islands--that game was just impossible on normal! Even on novice it was no cakewalk.
