I bought last night from EB. I waited until today so I could get the patch before I played it. I was a bit curious about the new Death Knight voice after reading all of the negative posts comming in. Words cannot describe this new voice, but the best I can come up with is [color:"green"]Kermit the Frog on [color:"red"]steroids.

I don’t understand how they could go from a great set of voices in , to this. I played the all the way to the end and the voices were brilliant. Now I am stuck in this cell for eternity because I don't even want to play the game now.

The dialog that I saw in the demo, made me think the Death Knight was [color:"yellow"]"annoyed" and [color:"yellow"]"sarcastic". The first actor made him sound [color:"orange"]"dull" and [color:"orange"]"bored". This new actor makes him sound [color:"red"]"loud" and [color:"red"]"annoying".

Seriously, is this what the game dialog writer had in mind for the Death Knight? I don’t know why you did not hire the guy that did the first Dragon Rider at the beginning of . That is what I had in mind for the Death Knight.

This is no joke. I waited in high anticipation and a long time for this game, only to shut it down before the Death Knight could finish his first sentence.

And so, I give a big apology to Larian for joining the masses and adding pressure to change the Death Knight's voice. I can only hope that you shipped the original voice on this CD, or will offer a voice patch to get back to the original voice shipped in the demo.

Until then I'll just sit back, drink a cold one, and watch the messages accumulate on these forums.

I dont like his voice, it IS loud and annoying, but it doesnt make the game unplayable.

My solution is to turn down the volume whenever he speaks, the writing itself is fine, god forbid we are forced to actually read

The other voices are, for the most part, very well done.

Kermit the Frog on steroids, lol I like that. But in all seriousness, I asked this before, but is there any way to remove his voice from the game entirly? I would love to have him just shutup and provide my own mental voice for him.

After the start of the game he talks less frequently, and it is not as bad after you get used to it. I didn't think it started off that bad, though.

I think it's an improvement but still a long way from what I'd like. Nevertheless, either it improves or I just don't notice it now, so don't let this trivial detail stop you from enjoying the game. The humorous moments are definitely a highlight and the voices for those are generally pretty good.

Divine Divinity had terrible voices too. Remember Mardaneus and Lanilor? Ugh...

Why are people making such a big deal about this? I've probably heard him talk for about 30 seconds, and I'm nearly at the end of Act I. Most RPGs don't even have full voices for all the characters. READ it!

You all were right. The game is playable and fun. I turned off his voice by setting Voices to 0. All of the voices are gone, but now I dont have to hear the Death Knight anymore. It would be nice to have a Death Knight mute button. Maybe the only way to make the problem go away is to just make his voice just go away.

Yes, I can read, but voices in a game just enhance the storytelling that much more. When he bellowed out his first line, I practically died laughing... Then I got annoyed and just shut the game off. It totally caught me off guard.

Maybe I can try to let it grow on me... But the actor can't keep up his character. Did you notice that half way into the lines, he loses the loud annoying voice, and it starts to sound just like a normal voice?

You're perfectly right about the irritating tone of his voice, i was so annoyed i turned the voices off for a while, and i never complained about any voices in games before, i was ok with the voices in the demo, even liked them, also i liked the voices in the original divine divinity.
Just play some more and you'll see the stupid tone of his voice changes for the better, it gets to the point where it sounds beter than the demo, im quite happy i had the courage to turn the voices back on after the initial shock :P

I just wanted to say your description as "Kermit the Frog on Steriods" is just spot on. I laughed so hard when he started talking because I immediately thought about this post. I recall the original voice in the demo as being more subtle and low-key. I liked it better. The DK delivery now sounds hammy and forced.

But still, its certainly not enough to be a game-breaker for me. Good for a chuckle though. hehe

Great. A whole bunch of people complain about the voices in the demo, especially the DeathKnight. Then they spend money, time and effort in changing the voices and a bunch of other people start complaining about the voices again.

In both cases there is also a silent majority who don't have problems with the voices (maybe not the same mojority in both cases though).
I have no issues with any of the voices. They speak and some I like some I don't. Just like in real life....

Someone predicted that would happen (a bunch of other people complaining).

I think it's a bit weird that someone would go to the extent of turning off all voices just so they won't hear the DK... Still, that's their perogative, I suppose.

He gets on my nerves...

I think they redid other voices too, recall a difference in some of the guards from demo to final. In fact there might have been alot of post demo voice changes they didnt mention, so its not like it was a total loss.

I'm getting curious about the new Mr. DK... Sounds like after the under-acting in the demo, lots of people are now complaining about over-acting in the final version...

I love Kermit though! (but Kermit having babies with Ms Piggy is probably more credible than him being the guy behind the mask )

Maybe they should've used James Earl Jones for the DK ?

(Of course this is out of possibilities - he would be far too expensive I think. )

Anyway, I'm saddened by this whole process and find it highly irritating. First everybody complaints about the voice and after it's re-done, people don't like it ? It must well be irritating for Larian as well.

As C-3PO once said (one of my favourite sayings) : "Sometimes I really don't understand those humans."

[color:"yellow"]I am so sorry but i complain about people who open threads about subjects which are already in the section.
It is the third thread about the DK's voice !

Worst voice i ever heard in a game
A rolling rant and an honest plea
I am so sorry I complained about the DK voice

Please read the threads and use the existing threads on the same subject.

Well I don't think this comes as a surprise though - The people in charge of the casting possibly didn't vote for a/the new DK actor unanimously either (if there ever was such a thing, of course ). Different people have different preferences

Barta, you're right - but as long's there's people on these forums, there's going to be different threads about the same subject. Some people just never learn/learned

I like the game but I am disappointed with DK's voice too.

He sounds like being angry all the time, when he should rather sound evil, threatening, dangerous and sarcastic. Not the same at all!

In Matrix, Hugo Weaver does a great job as the evil Smith.
Dark Vador style would also have been good as DK.

Bah. Not such a big deal in the game anyway.

Barta, I started a new thread as an open apology to Larian.

Going back to sleep now.
