Can anyone tell me how to get by the Deathknight Patrols? Am I supposed to sneak by them, or whack them, because they are tough for me. I have finished the 1st Battlefield dungeon, and I assume I need to get past these guys to get a key to open the second one.

you can either kill them for exp i did or use the sneak skill to get past them, they don't drop any keys or anything so it doesnt matter if u kill them or not

I killed them for the exp also. They were a bit tough at your low level, but still not that hard.

I killed them, too. Sneak in single mode - target them (CTRL) as soon as I can locate them on the mini map and get their bar, they run into my direction - I sneak a few steps away - they stop => I shoot again with arrows - and so on. I LOVED killing them

Not even with their slowing spell?

I avoided 'em, until I finally realized that the reason my DK wasn't having any effect was that I'd invested my skill points in 1-handed slashing weapons, and was using 1-handed slashing weapons with a shield. Silly me, not realizing that adding a shield meant a sword's skill was useless! So I downloaded the 1.41 patch, and am going to start again. Not sure whether to stay with tactical, though, or try something easier. But I don't want to knock over opponents by waving at 'em, either.

Wha'. wha? Wanna tell me why a shield would make your 1-handed sword slashing useless. Seems like my DK does damage with a shield but maybe I haven't noticed it's not as much? I know you get a little penalty for armor & shields but "wasn't having any effect"? If so, wouldn't early on, the spider's two handed sword be the weapon of choice if one-handed weapons don't work with shields. Please explain.

Here's another, how come there are so many more good swords than blunt weapons in the early game? Well, skeletons have their clubs but weapons merchants seem to have only swords, cutlasses, etc. but no bludgeoner weapons. Also, most games have blunt weapons do more damage to skeletons but I guess not in this one? TIA.

The sword still has an effect, but there is no extra bonus from the 1 handed slashing skill if you are using a 1 handed slashing weapon with a shield.

Exactly as Raze said. All the points I'd invested in the bonuses to accuracy and damage did nothing, because I also had a shield equipped.

Anybody else noticed that when you gain a level in the Battlefield area, the Deathknights on patrol also gain a level? Entered the Battlefield at level 7 - Deathknights were level 11. Just returned at level 9 and the Deathknights are level 13 and still damnably tough.
