I just started playing the game (installed the 1.44 patch)...my character doesn't ever speak...? Is that normal? I seem to have all the other audio...

That is normal. The main character has the most dialog options, and would need a male, female and at least one child voice for them to be fully spoken, which would significantly increase the work and size requirements for the voice files.

Out of the hundreds of rpgs I have played in my time, there's only been a handful where the main character vocally says anything. It would be nice to get a sense of what your main character sounds like, but I guess it would be too much work to accomplish.

I think there are other valid reasons for *not* doing it. In how many players' heads do their heroes sound like stronger, maybe more mysterious, perhaps even sexier versions of themselves -- whether or not anyone wants to admit it? And how likely is a recorded hero voice to live up to the illusion?

It's like reading a book instead of watching a movie. Sometimes your imagination is just better.

I guess after playing Divine Divinity and Spellforce I had gotten used to it - and really liked it. I just assumed that since DD had entertaining voice dialogue for the main character that BD would too.

Now that it's not there, I definitely miss it.

... On the other hand my nerves got in a hard test everytime I had to listen to my char in saying "I am over burdened. I can´t carry anymore". In the end I was banging my head on the desk...

TOTALLY seconded!!! That drove me up the wall!

That and 'I Do Not Know How To Do That'... I wanted to kill my character more than the monsters did sometimes!

Silence is golden, IMO

It'd only remind me of playing Discworld over again...

@ Elliot New type of armor perhaps?

There were quite a few people complaining about those spoken lines in -- I guess the Larians might have taken that into account

true, but only the DIALOGUE lines should be spoken, not the message lines that would help a lot

I dont mind not having dialogue for the main char.... i sure as heck dont miss "What the hell did that just do?!?!" and i must agree on the overburdened part too... as a rule my char only crawled back to town under a VERY heave inventory... or to go talk to someone, so the quest can continue. (that movable bed was my savior time and time again)

Personally, I laughed and laughed as I tried to have my character carry massive chests, and similar things. " I may be strong, but I'm not that strong!" "How am I supposed to fight carrying all this stuff?" I guess I am just easily amused! I would prefer the main character to say something! I guess you just have to pretend your character is a mute...Yet sign language would be cool...
