Ok I know that we have been through this again and again but I was never good on taking notes. So I have the game installed with 1.43 patch. 1.44 now is on line and I am wondering is there a way not to start all over again? Should I place my saves in an other directory and install the patch? Then place my saves in the game directory and run the game. Will that do?
Hate to start all over again...
thnx in advance.

Luc, I took my saves from 1.42 and used them in 1.44 => no probs, are compatible. If you want to be on the safe side => rar or zip them and keep these somewhere additionally on your drive. Then patch your game and off you go <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Wait, you know I am stupid... I can not rar or zip. That is a fact. Now can I put them on a cd and then after patching through them in the game again?

Thnx Kiya for helping me always <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

You can copy the saved games to CD-R/RW, but do not need to remove them before installing the patch. If you save them to a CD-R and later for some reason need to copy them to the hard drive, make sure you clear the read-only attribute (select the files in Explorer, right click, select Properties and clear and checkmark by the read-only attribute).

Probably not the best howto around, but the best i could find in a quick search;
File Compression and Decompression

Windows XP has basic zip features build in, or the help files of various freeware archive managers should provide details. Most have some form of context menu support, so you can right click to zip files/folders or to unzip archives.

thnx very much! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

One more question. If I install the 1.44 patch will my saves will be upgraded? I have not gone too far in the game.

Yes and no - what you already solved will stay the same. I loaded a 1.42 save into a 1.44 and then saved, so all changes take effect. But some already are valid, when dealing with files superior to saves. Are you thinking about something specific?

if you're upgrading from 1.43, then I think LAR said that the savegames won't be affected, read the points listed of what the patch does and you'll know <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

@ Kiya

what I am thinking is this : I do not mind for the already solved things in the game. I am after all in the begining. But what I am afraid of is that I will install the patch and the version I play will remain the last one since I will play an old save (1.43). Is this true? Or the patch changes the rest remaining of the game?

I know people that sometimes I do not understand things at once. You probably bang your heads on your desks right now. For that I apologize.

@Viper thnx I checked it out. What you say it is true. Although I do not know what effect has on the game. It means that your saves remain in an old version? Or that they don't get corrupted and you can play without problems from an old save?

*Sigh* I sould have waited... but I was so anxious to play the game... I knew that I would run like crazy with patces...

I thank you all once more.

Once you install the patch and load a previous version save, any new stuff should correspond to the updated version (changes and updates should show up). There may be some minor differences between a game started in version 1.43 and then updated compared to a game started at a later version, but nothing that should require restarting.
