On Kiya's recommendation, I just scored Spellforce off of eBay at an attractive price. From what I've read this game is half rpg and half rts. I dislike resource gathering and building units, etc. However, one review I read said that you can really be competitive in the game just using your heroes that can be developed as in an rpg?
Anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance.

In most missions you can use your heroes - but not in all. Ron, you lose about 2 levels if you do it the RPG way. You see, you need the hero monument (and runes) to activate them - so, not all missions have this monument.

I'd say it was more like 70% RTS, 30% RPG. If you don't gather resources and build an army you'll miss out on the main fun in the game. Depends on your definition of 'fun' of course. As to your heros, they are 'disposable' (easily re-summoned) and don't gain levels or spells depending upon experience. The most interaction you have with them is dressing them up.
Honestly, its still a fantastic game. You really should try it. (Try to ignore the bad voice-acting. )

I played it in RPG style on my first run, Womble. Cleared out the spawn spots, activated my hero monuments where I could - and the game was easier, so I missed 2 level ups. And where I could => I even cleared the maps all on my own (Necromancer) On my 2nd run I made it as strategy - and had far more enemies, so 2 levels more - and a bit strenuous on occasions.
Both styles were fun for me Kiya

Changing gears, I had intended to replay Beyond Divinity. As I had finished my first runthrough without any patches, I decided to install 1.44 (English) so as not to encounter that empty Act I, Level 2, dungeon. Unfortunately, I couldn't even boot the game with that patch.
So.................
Decided to replay Divine Divinity. About 1/2 way through. Just as good as the first time through. I can see why posters like the skill system in DD vis-a-vis BD. Wandering through the Dwarven Halls now.....

SpellForce was pretty good. Here's hoping a good sequel ties up all its loose ends.

SpellForce was pretty good. Here's hoping a good sequel ties up all its loose ends. And makes sense of the truly bizarre ending! Worse than DD's ending video, IMO - at least only the statue caused confusion there...

Yup, apparently we'll have to wait longer for the US release.
