I have purchased brand new copy of Beyond Divinity, in the sealed box.
Installs fine, cant run it - Disk Identification Error, asks for key.
I HAVE read the FAQ,tried everything it says about Norton and such - nothing.
Contacted support@larian.com - no answer. How come the brand new game doesnt work and how come i get treated like that, after paying money?!

I assume you have bought the game, if not it's probably the Anti-piracy system. Have you tried installing the patches or tried running it in a different cd-drive (if you have one). Maybe you should try to disable any virtual drives you may have loaded.

Yes, it *is* Star Force 3 protection, no assuming about it. And like i said - i did try what FAQ suggested, which includes disabling the virtual drives...
Putting the game cd in another drive won't help, since the error is Disk Identification Error, not related to drive reading issues. Game was installed from the same drive where i'm trying to run it from. Im certain its a Star Force protection system bug, and I only hope larian support would respond soon and be able to fix it remotely, otherwise i will press charges, coz im really upset, been waiting to play this game for a long time and im not spending another dime on this, to get another version or whatever...

Do you have disk 2 in the drive? Using the first CD will cause a disk identification error. At least in the North American and UK English versions, the mentioned CD key is just a poorly worded error that it could not find the play CD in a drive (if it finds the first CD in a drive, it will not keep looking for the second, so remove the install disk). The Australian version does use a cd key.

Copy protection systems can have problems with particular optical drives, so trying a different drive (if available) may indeed help.

Yes, i am using Disk Two. No, Disk One is not in any other drive when im trying.
I'm using regular Asus DVD Rom, with 48x CD Rom read capability, no optical drive here...
I've tried another drive i have, which is a burner - didn't help either.
Game version is definitly English, but i have no idea weather its North American or UK version. Unfortunately, this game is nowhere to be found in my country, so i bought it from ebay auction.

Apollon, I'm not sure - but are you using Win 98 or Win 98SE? IIRC, this required an email to the Larians to get a CD key?
Kiya

And welcome back <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

About UK version => please, look if the case has PEGI 12+ yrs. This is the European youth protection system. The US version has these letters => "M" IIRC. No clue, how the Australian version looks like.

First of all, Hi Kiya <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Long time no see, howya doin girl?
Now about the game - im using Windows XP + SP2 Retail RTM
My game box has M letter, along with MATURE 17+, which must mean its US version
according to you. I have sent the email to larian tech support with report.txt,
generated by the StarForce copy protection system, as they require according to FAQ.

XP + SP2 causes problems with StarForce. You'll need another version, but I can't seem to find a download.

It was just the SP2 beta that had a problem with Starforce; the official release should be fine.

Like i said before, im running Windows XP + SP2 Final Retail RTM, not beta.
There is no reason why the game shouldn't work. I have contacted larian support
several days ago - no respond, not even "we have recieved you support request,
and will handle it as soon as we can". Running out of patience here guys, been
waiting to play this game for a long time. I'm seriously considering pressing
charges against the company, if i don't have the problem solved very soon.
I will not be cheated on my money with a non working piece of software.

I reported this post to a moderator, and finally got Lynn's attention.
Appearently, my email to tech support got filtered out by their spamfilter and
they never recieved it. I recieved an apology and a working key for the game.
Time to kick some [nocando] <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

P.S. Thanks to everyone who tried to help, especialy Kiya <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I have a suggestion for you, if you still have the problem that is, to not only disable the virtual drives, but uninstall all virtual drive software. I had to do this to be able to play doom 3. I'm not shure if this will fix it, but it is worth a try! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

Whats next your PC must be colored blue and facing polar north at all times, or Divine Divnity 2 will uninstall itself and windows to make sure you dont play a pirated game, also be sure to have all of your Cd drives unplugged or sel ethe game will think you are butrning a copy of it, and keep all 3 play disks in your drive at once or it will think you have a burned CD...

Crap like this is what wil be next... Im going to stick to the secure companies who go gold without and ad, and who if they make a mistake they will correct it immediately <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" /> cough cough<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" /> bethesda <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" /> cough cough<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />
Not that I dislike Larian, but they seem TOO laid back for professionals, an easter egg here and their is fine, but they are much too often to keep any atmoshphere, sure you can argue its their game if you dont like it dont play it, as you can argue that about anything, but what about DD having hundreds almost of Bugs that can screw everything up! How old is DD and do they even plan too fix it any more? Theres like 4 skills that are completely broken, and most people have to resort to work arounds to even play the freaking game, Like mardaneus key doesnt exist or their telport stones are gone forever. Dont get me wrong I like Larian, theya re way better then lazy Ascaron who halfway makes a game and then releases it saying its all fixed, BS.

I completely agree with you.

When i really like something or someone i don't care about his minor defaults and i just see his great qualities.

Bugs in Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity did not spoil the fun for the great majority of the players.

well I didnt say it spoiled the fun, but it impeeded their progress. I love DD even though 5 skills dont work, there are more easter eggs then I care to see and theres no way to play the game without encountering many Bugs, Lets just pray that for DD2 they support their game with their LIVES!!!

They already burn their lives working 20 hours in a day to create the games even during the WE.
