Sorry, but the only thing we know so far is that it's in development. Nothing new, yet.

Alrik.

AFAIK, DD2 is at least a year or more away from release.

Oh, how I do hope that Larian also develops a Toolset for DD2.
So we as players can develop Campaigns of our own to share with the whole community like Bioware did.

DD is such a wonderfully Brilliant game and it always makes me so sad when it comes to the end game.

Is it true that dd will be a like morrorwind...i.e the camera will be "the eyes" of the player?

If so i think i might find DD very daunting as i expect the maps to be huge!!!

please don't take this personally but i think first person perspective sucks monkey balls. i rather have the traditional isometric view as it's easier for orientation & movement. plus i love this view since i start gaming in 1989.

Since the game is full 3D, the camera angle may be adjustable. I doubt they would change from an isometric perspective to exclusively first person.

so , perchance we will have multi perspectives to choose from,
be the good lord willing, and the programmers able!

Well both views have their good an bad points. I'm with Janggut though, stick with the iso type view, but then have it all 3d rotatable...ala neverwinter nights.

First person is good, but the tunnel vision aspect of it makes combat a bit cumbersome.

I don't remember where, but I believe I've read somewhere that Larian is tossing around the idea of DD2 being Multi.

Again, I'll plug my earlier comment.

I sure hope DD2 has a Toolset with it so we as players can build mods to continue its growth.

If I understand this right, we're talking a possibillity to choose between 2D and 3D (or first or third prespective). This sounds like a very nice sellution- IF they have time to get both of them right, that is. (Have I completely misunderstood what you've been saying the last posts? Would be nice to know...)

Ack! No! No rotation!

I can just imagine myself getting a huge headache while exploring a huge town cause of that dang rotation needed to view every single square inch for a chest or barrel or something.

No need to fear Taski897.

I really, really doubt they would get that anal in the games creation.

Look at NWN it has rotation and it's not anything like what you fear.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Bioware went from 2D to 3D no problem w/ NWN, w/ their Engine.
Problem w/ NWN was -- well, they forgot to make a SOLID SP component.

Though, SOU and HOTU patched that problem up

What does this mean "they forgot to make a solid SP component" ? Was the MP part more solid that the SP part or how have I to understand this ?

He's probably referring to the fact that when NWN was released there was widespread criticism that the Official (SP) Campaign was pretty crummy. Bioware's main object with NWN appeared to be producing a program that was multiplayer friendly, and in particular good for use in the traditional D&D manner - with a controlling 'Dungeon Master'.

The 2 add ons since and hundreds of mods seems to have since blunted the criticism that the original SP campaign was poor value for money if you only bought it for SP. And not everyone disliked the original campaign.

But on the subject of DD2 release - have a look at RPGdot's release list. They have DD2 coming out THIS month!! On the other hand, they have The Bard's Tale coming out on PS2 and X box this time NEXT year!

The somewhat out of date RPGdot list

EDIT:

OK, since posting the above I emailed RPGdot with some comment on their release list. I got an amazingly quick reply from them saying that they would amend the listings for The Bard's Tale and DD2 (which they now have done).

They now list DD2 as coming out in the first quarter of 2050 - so only 45 years to wait now. I can't wait to see what Larian can do with 45 years of development time.

2050 should be a fabulous year for games as they also list Arx Fatalis 2, Gothic 3, Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, Jagged Alliance 3, Dragon Wars, and a host of other titles all coming out at the beginning of 2050.

Should be a cracker year - pity I'll be 103 by then.

RPG isn't the kind of guys who makes risky guesses, like next year or something, it seems. . But no problem, 2050 I'll be 67 years old and will have plenty of time.
