I was just sent this riddle.
It is pretty easy to solve.
Who else knows the answer?

When asked this riddle, 80% of kindergarten kids got the answer,
compared to 17% of Stanford University seniors here in the United States.

Here is the riddle:
"What is greater than God,
More evil than the devil,
The poor have it,
The rich need it,
And if you eat it, you will die?”

Press the shift key and you will get the answer.

P.S. You won't believe it, but this really does give you the answer.

I invite the Larian team on this too, if they so wish. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

No

and I admit the answer is geared towards the English language.
So it might be harder for some to answer.

It is a single word answer though. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

It's something so obvious I can't think of it, since 80% at kindergarden (german word btw) madit, but only 17 % Stanford University seniours...

Pain? No, rich don't need pain, but that's what you'll get from holding shift down. Eventually...

Nothing? No, that's not it... Maybe you have to know the basics of religion?

i'm obviously much closer to being a kindergarten kid than a uni student, as it took me less than 3 seconds to get the answer... still, i'm sure that my mates would confirm that i never really left kindertgarten.. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

you must have pretty dumb uni students at Stanford though! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" />

anybody got any more riddles? nice idea for a thread Kyra_Ny <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Got it, Kyra_Ny. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Another riddle from Steeleye Span:

White bird featherless
Flew from paradise,
Pitched on a castle wall.
Along came Lord Landless,
Took it up handless,
Rode along horseless,
To the King's white hall.

This had us stumped for years, probably because of where we live.

Don't be too hard on the Stanford crew... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

[color:"orange"]Summary of the eRumor
A simple riddle with a simple answer that was allegedly reported on Paul Harvey...and that Kindergartners answered more correctly than university seniors.

The Truth
The riddle has been around for a long time, but there is no evidence that research was ever conducted on the comparative answers of Kindergartners and Stanford University seniors.
There is also no evidence that this was reported on Paul Harvey. [/color]

You beat me to it Rincewind. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I was just about to post a similar opinion. I really can't imagine anybody seriously trudging round Universities and Kindergartens with clipboards polling such a thing. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

It's really just a bit of 'decoration' added to create some atmosphere for the riddle. But it does tie in with my own research that shows that 92.7% of people who read forums can be fooled by a smart looking statistic. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/stupid.gif" alt="" />

That's a real stumper from HandEFood - that could take me a few years too... I'll print it out and have a ponder. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Here's an old one:

The man who made it didn't want it.
The man who bought it didn't use it.
The man who used it didn't know it.

What was it?

Maybe we could use the spoiler function to take guesses?

<span class='standouttext'>Spoiler : </span><span class='spoiler'> I have nothing to add to the discussion on Kyra_Ny's riddle, but I like the topic. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> </span>

A guess:

<span class='standouttext'>Spoiler : </span><span class='spoiler'> Am I on the right track with snow? And maybe rolling a snowball down a hill or making a snowman? Not quite sure about 'handless', 'horseless' and the 'white hall' though... </span>

HandEFood is clearly something of a Riddle and Puzzle king.

Have you come across this one? Written in the 18th century by Horace Walpole (son of British PM Sir Robert Walpole). A bit old fashioned in tone of course, but still very clever. I failed to work it out, looked it up, and then kicked myself for cheating and not trying for longer.

Before my birth I had name,
But soon as born I changed the same;
And when I'm laid within the tomb,
I shall my father's name assume.
I change my name three days together,
Yet live but one in any weather.
