You're not the only one behind the times.
I only heard about it very recently myself. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I am one of the few who didn't enjoy Morrowind
that much. I loved the graphic. They were awesome,
but I could never get into Morrowind's story. For
some reason I could never find a real story connected
with it. I played to about level 33/34 and finally
gave up.

I thought Morrowing would have been a great multiplayer
game since the world was so large. It would have given
more meaning (at least to me) to have my friends along
to talk to and do things with. I was really hoping that
Oblivion would be multiplayer for this reason.

The graphics and all look really awesome. It sounds
interesting and the NPC's sound like they will take
on alot of character. Even with this, I am still not
sure whether I would buy it because of the experience
I had with Morrowind.

maybe because there is pretty none...

ok this is not a shot to those who have liked morrowind...(their right)...

but i agree... with shantara i mean (and beyond that with myshelf of course) except that i didn't like morrowind's graphics (sorry)...

hmm.... i've given up far before lvl 33/34... maybe because i had some bugs that prevented any level changes... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

Well it could be the case that you both didn´t understand the game. Morrowind has an intense story, the game is kind of a story itself. However all is hidden. Read the books, talk to people. Many many NPC have their own background story, there are no restrictions you can do almost everything.

The main quest is very intense and I love the ironic moves in it´s story line. Graphics were nice in the original game, but now they are even much better due to lots of great plugins.

I tell you folks, Vvardenfell is worth more than only one visit.

I played Morrowind once and returned the game. Most of the time I was just stumbling around in the dark and didn't like it.

The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?

i never did like morrowind, too. just couldn't get into the groove of a 1st-person perspective. and there seemed to be a lack of direction.

at least, baldur's gate 3 is coming, if the announcement i've read in one of the rpg sites is to be believed. if it holds true, it's something really worth waiting. if ever it comes, whenever & if ever, it will surely blow every single rpg in the market. pretty much what world of warcraft will do to every other mmorpg out there, i think.

by the way, bg 3 is said to be in full 3d and will adopt 3.5 ed. d&d rules.

god, i hope this is true. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

The story is what I never could find. I read every book I could get my hands on
and I talked to everybody I met more than once. I kept going back to them to see
if they had any new information and most of the time they didn't. It all had to
have been hidden very well because I gave it a good try (level 33/34).

That was another thing. I could never figure out just what the main quest was. I
could never figure out what I was suppose to be doing other than just running
here to there and back again.

I didn't like Morrowind's 1st person perspective either. I like being able to see
my character and see what is going on around them.

I am glad you enjoyed the game, bernhard. I know some other people that did too,
but for me it just wasn't any fun.

Do you guys think Oblivion will be any better or do you expect it to be about
like Elders Scrolls?

I was able to explore each and every thing in Morrowind, and what I was unable to find I got out of the forum.

The main quest are all quests you get by Caius Cosades and later on when Caius leaves what you are suppoesed to do on your own. I really didn´t have any trouble finding it. In the beginning he sends you on rther dull missions, but later on you will learn whatv is going on in Morrowind.

If you have any questions I will be happy to help you and all other people out. Hwever this is not the Morrowind forum so i will stop talking for now.

I thought it was pretty obvious also -- Caius is the one who will give you the MAIN QUEST stuff. And whomever he sends you to, they usually have to do w/ the MAIN QUEST, too.

P.S. Shantara, didn't I tell you that in my PM's a bit ago? :P

Uh....uh....uh, I don't remember. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

You probably did and I just forgot. I do remember us talking about Morrowind and
Oblivion. Can I get by with that? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

I know Caius was suppose to be giving the main quest, but I kept getting bored
with all of the stuff in between. Caius would tell me he didn't have anything
else for me to do and to go do some other things. I didn't know what else to do
and it seemed useless just running back and forth fetching stuff for the same
person. I know there was one place I talked to this person and they asked me to
do something. I went and did it and went back to them. They then sent me back to
the very same place to do something else again and again. That was not very
interesting. There just didn't seem to be that much going on except running
back and forth. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />

bernhard, MysterD, thanks for the offer of help. If I ever decide to complete
Morrowind I will be sure to yell for help. I do still have all of my saves. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I bought morrowind the elder scrolls and i find 1st perspective incredubly daunting....the world seemed huge.

I didnt like the graphics too much but the sense of being in this other place and the atsmophere really did have a big impact on me.

Becuase of the huge daunting experience i didnt stay long althougth i should give it another go.

You can put it in 3rd person then.

The world is awesome. Too bad the inhabitants of the world, the AI is not as interesting as Gothic's. They all pretty much are walking-talking encyclopedias that say the same lines as each other even if you're in a different region of the land.

Though, no RPG's atmosphere yet is as lively as Gothic's really -- since all AI runs on a schedule to do stuff like eat, hang out w/ NPC's, chat w/ other NPC's, etc etc.

I'd highly recommend you going through it again and giving it a chance.

I am of those who did not care too much for Morrowind neither.
They did a lot of great work in the games creation.
But I don’t like the rules and the way the game is played.
Nor do I like the method they use for character development.
It reminds me of Micromanagement.

I really wish I had never listened to all of the hype and I really wish I had never bought the game.
I consider it my biggest waste of game money I had ever spent.

Sorry, I mean no offense to those who really love the game.

The 3rd person perspective was really annoying to me. I didn't like just seeing
my character's back all of the time. I hope Oblivion will offer more the view
like NWN had. I really like being able to see my character and what is going
on around them.

I also hope that if Oblivion has to use the FP perspective that they don't have
so many attacks from behind. That also got really annoying. (a few ok, but it
does get old after awhile)

Ideally RPGs will stop using the top down isometric view entirely. It destroys any semblance of realism and does nothing to make you feel like you are a part of the experience. Seeing everything around you a long way in every direction is like you are playing the game from someone other than your character's perspective; someone who sees way too much.

My main quibble with Morrowind was the low diversity of monsters and their ease to dispatch. Once you got to about level 20, you could kill any of the monsters easily and the game rarely had you fighting multiple "good" opponents who may have presented a challenge.

The expansions helped to remedy that. The monsters started to come in packs and were more challenging.

They also took a few steps backwards from Daggerfall which hopefully can be remedied in Oblivion. Things such as a day-night schedule, horses, ships, banks and bank notes would all be very nice to have once again.
