well, here it is, WoW just sold 250,000 copies...on the first day of release. that is simply amazing. if the news at www.worldofwarcraft.com is to be believed, that is a record 1-day sale for an mmorpg.

hats off to blizz, though i don't think i'll play WoW. still, i hope game developers can consistently come up with high-quality games, especially rpg's. ultimately, it's the gamers like us who will benefit.

In America, yes. Blizzard explicitely shut the doors for European Beta-Testers. The game is said to arrivein Europe in the first months of 2005.

If I am not mistaken, you can start playing it now regardless of your location.
Just preorder and get into closed beta till the game is released.

Damn the game looks promising.

i haven't played it yet, but judging from the reviews the game is garnering from various gaming sites, it sure looks like blizzard has got itself another fantastic game. and a goldmine at that.

reviewers are all positive about the game, with some calling it the best mmorpg they've played so far. notwithstanding server stability issues (heck, what mmorpg hasn't experienced that anyway? and it's blizz's first mmorpg.), the game world is said to be simply breathtaking. and blizz has committed itself to constantly evolve the game world.

i've read from several forums that many gamers are abandoning final fantasy xi, everquest, and other mmorpg's, and migrating to WoW.

this might be the game that will make me shed off my mmorpg aversion. now as for that monthly fee...hmmm.

Been playing it and it really is fantastically done, it doesnt foster the guild/clan atmosphere that games like EQ and shadowbane can since there you can build towns and whatnot, whereas in WoW you are arbitrarily on a team based on which side you take.

Overall very very well made

Damn, but still, that, monthly fee, ohh no.
I will have to travel across the sea to neighbouring country to get the game.
This is ok, but the fee

damn you!

do keep us posted of your progress in the game, cleg. might make me buy WoW and work overtime to cover that monthly fee. what side are you going to play, horde or alliance?

i've never been a fan of mmorpg's. participated in a lot of beta mmorpg's here in asia, e.g, ragnarok, mu online, pristontale, skyblade, khanonline, among others. never lasted more than one week in them.

but WoW...i'm salivating. plus, i've heard that pallies (i like that class) are overpowered in WoW. makes me want to play it all the more.

So far, so good. I played for a couple of hours to get the feel of it. No lag. Smooth motion. (My system specs:1.8 GHZ ATI 9000 mobile graphics card--old drivers, 512 MB RAM)

Fun so far.

Once I feel comfortable with the game, I will party with The Amazon Basin, their standards for cooperative gameplay are top notch.

After I've played more I'll write more.

Just another MMO. Sometimes I have the feeling that in the near future, there won't be any non-MMO games at all!
Blizzard or not, MMO are usually ruined by annoying players.

Try Anarchy Online. It's free until 2006 if you register in the next several weeks and you'll see how maddening the community can be.

With all above said, I have to admit that the introduction cinematic for World of Warcraft is beautifully rendered.

almost all, if not all, of the cinematics in blizzard games are wonderfully done and deserving of being called a cinematic.

iirc, the warcraft iii:roc cinematics won several awards when it was released.

Hey crusader! Nice to see you're still arround.

Yes, I remember Warcraft III winning the award on 3dawards.org. The scene when the corrupted Prince Arthas returns to his father (first cinematic in Undead campaign) is memorable with the rose petals shower. I have much respect for Blizzard, don't get me wrong, but I have zero for MMO games.

Yes, some of the films/movies/cutscenes (what to call them???) looks REALLY great in WC3 (eg final movie of the orc champaign).

So Cleg has bought it? I winder if it was the full game since the beta hasn't even been released here (apart from the buyable one, which I'm NOT going to get). I was planning (or a friend of mine) on playing the beta when it's been released for free (on my new computer ). My friend was planning to move in with me...

that would be nice

If you look at this this way....
Blizzard did some extensive beta-testing in the USA. Because of that, WoW was already advertized and people played it way before the official release. Sony saw it and made a week free in EQII. Funcom saw Blizzard and Sony giving free trial periods and made Anarchy Online free for one year.

Who says competition is bad?
