It's home now, all I need is the account (which my friend have). I fear he will drag me off for footballtraining (soccer) though. Still curious why an amateur footballteam starts to train in the middle of the winter...
Oh, and I WILL try it... What profession do you suggest? I was thinking of enchantment, but then again, it's a dwarf...

After reaching lvl 10, click "N" and select the talent you wish each time you level up.
Broadly speaking, gathering professions make you money and production professions will cost you money. For enchanting you will need green items to disenchant. If you go the money making route, skinning/mining is the best.

cleglaw, what is your profession? Priund--herbalism/alchemy-easy, fast, having health, mana, and intellect potions available is helpful. The downside is there isn't much money in it, so she auctions the linen she takes off humanoids as a money maker. Wartar--mining, blacksmithing-time consuming but fun. And I can twink new guildmate warriors' armor and weapons for all classes. The ore mined is used for smithing. Other materials such as leather from skinning are sometimes needed, but Wartar gets it free since he keeps friends supplied with armor. With other toons I have done mining/skinning-the most money. Enchanting-didn't like it-takes too long to level up. I haven't tried it with tailoring though which I hear is a good way to green items to disenchant. With the gathering professions you get the ability to find the ore or herbs but only one finding ability can be used at a time. Professions are often geared to the specific needs of your toon. So smithing would be useless, for example, to a priest.

On the German site http://olnigg.de you can currently see a very ... sarcastic review of WOW. It's in German, sorry. The first two pictures are mainly about Supergnomi and his relative, who are a magical people : they can levitate shields. Olnigg is (in)famous for writing the most sarcastic reviews of MMORPGs (he's a long-time EQ player), and it's already a kind of "insider tip" now. He points out every design-failures (often graphical ones, or language [ poor translations, for example], apart from everything else ) in a very sarcastic, almost cynical way, which more than once made me almost fall off the chair from laughing (his subtitles are simply hilarious !) I'm not going to translate them (too much work), but you might perhaps try translators like http://www.freetranslation.com or so for that. If the translation correct, it's absolutely worth the try ! However, things like sarcasm and subtle humour are *very* difficult to translate, so don't be surprised if you get sort of nonsense instead. Alrik.

Well, my impression is that he likes them ... but what he absolutely doesn't like are design weaknesses.
And he isn't very impressed by the "comic style" of the WOW graphics, either.
As I've said above, he's a long-time EQ player and his oldest pagges show that he has played UO for quite a time as well.

Well, bad translations, graphical ptroblems (like the "shield-levitaters" ) , logical problems concerning game mechanics and so on. One of the last reviews of EQII shows his experience as a player : There was a posible exploit if you sell self-crafted things to NPCs - thus you could gain *very* much money, which was not intended. The result was that the company stopped selling to NPCs altogether, thus rendering the self-crafting of items absolutely obsolete (at least that's how it reads.
About the time when it was possible to craft things and sell them, the MMORPG was utterly full, he writes, after the stop it became fritening silent (in his own sarcastic words). The people had simply left in great numbers.
That's one of the things he writes about.

No. Currently I'm not interested in MMORPGs. Maybe later.

another question, this one may sound weird, but: I believe I've read somewhere that when you have installed the game, you don't need the cd anymore to play it. Is this true?

well, since the most important part in order to be able to play the game, is buying an account, and not a cd; it could make some sense.

It's probably true, I know that in AC and DAoC you don't need the CD to play so I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same for WoW.

JVB, you mentioned that you have an older system. Here is a thread about a guy with an older system who feels he needs an upgrade. Some specs are given. http://www.lurkerlounge.com/forums/...mp;show=&st=&#entry67148
