EDIT: oops, I had opened multiple topics, and replied as if this was in the DD forum. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />
There are a variety of strategies on character builds, with no one best distribution.
You need enough strength to equip weapons and armour, after which I would concentrate a little more on agility. I neglected intelligence almost completely (only put 1 point in), and after the beginning section of the game, relied more on constitution and vitality equipment bonuses than placing points in constitution. I still probably put more points into constitution than I needed, and less in agility than I could. You need enough hit points that you can not be killed in a couple hits by a strong opponent, but after that can use
restoration potions to compensate for a lower constitution).
EDIT: This still pretty much holds true in BD, but you also have to consider survival and speed.
In the
Strategy Guide there is an appendix which lists some of the secondary stat calculations, and discusses stat point distribution in general terms.
