First of all no classes you can chooses every skill you want. But I do want to see some direction in skills. So I present the triangle of classes:

[Linked Image]

Elemental Attack Mage: This mage utilises the devastating force of the four elements. (spells are: Fire ball, thunder strike, tornado...)
Mage of Light (Attack): With divine glory to smite enemies (hammer spell, light spell (effective against the undead)..)
Mage of Light (Defence): This magic is more defensive and complements the paladin (weapon barrier) the spells are to increase defence around the player or upgrade the player spells like (force field, godly strength)
Paladin: The paladin is an expert with weapons but uses a bit magic to protect it self (that's why he is so close to the defence) (sword of revelations, call in the cavalry)
Warrior: The warrior can make any weapon into a dangerous tool. Be carefully when he takes out his tooth pick. (sword skill, axe skill, ...)
Ranger: The ranger is an expert in ranged combat (he is close to the survivor class) when enemies get close he runs to a safe distance.(crossbow skill, archer skill)
Thief: locked door?? do they exist. Never thrust this man he'll pick your wallet while you save him from a burning building (stealth, pickpocket, lock pick...)
Handyman: A regular macguewer give him he can repair and create everything (repair skill, traps, alchemy)
Dark Knight/assassin: a master in the laying of booby traps and backstabbing (traps, poison, stealth, invisibility)
Dark mage (Defence): unlike the light mage the dark mage uses spells to keep enemies at bay. With his powerful curses (panic curse, limbs of lead,...)
Darkmage (Attack)/Necromancer: zombies, skeletons and other undead horrors are there to do his bidding (summoning spells)

Now the skills that are divided between the classes(you can still choose any class) gives you the possibility to create a graph (to determin the avarage class).

[Linked Image]

(this player has invesete mostly in elemental warrior and paladin, thah makes him an avarage of a warrior )

Now I thought a long time over the triangle and yes there are some flaws in it.

first the good things:

example: the mage of light(defensive) and paladin. Now we all know that you can't win only with a good defence. that's why the paladin is near the mage of light. The mage of light uses spells that complement the paladin.
example:
Paladin is handy with a sword but has no good armour. (godly strength)
the mage uses his force field and then uses his sword(that is more paladin like) to deal with his foes.

Dark mage (defencive) and Assasin/dark knight:

Dark mage uses an other kind of defence than the light mage it's more base on slowing the enemy down while you get away (thats why it is more to the survivor side of the triangle).while you run you can lay a couple of traps (assasin) to get rid of any other enemies that might have follawed you.

There are example of those between every line some suit more then others (dark mage defences and assassin work perfectly together)..

the bad thing:
If you invest an equal amount in light magic(attack) and dark magic attack the that calculations come out elemental mage.

solution in the traits window set something like:

Your hero is 15% light mage 30% warrior 15% handy man 20% elemental mage and 20 ranger this makes you a paladin or a warrior

Maybe you can give each class a 1 skill special to that class

Complicated, but very well thought out.... i like your way of thinking....

I agree with the no classes.... and for that reason i liked BD's character selections.... you can start off as a warrior with it's default stats, but then can proceed to become a mage not too long after that.... no restrictions regarding armour etc... other than required stats...

I like the way you did the layout of char abilities

And that's without sub divisions.

The warrior could be split up in sword, axe, spear . Sword would lay closed to the paladin (paladin just screams sword) axe would be in the middle (throwing axe is more to the ranger side) and spears are just next of the ranger. you can split every skill up to fit a certain place in the triangle. The hammer skills of the Light mage would link to the elemental side (air) while fire would lay next to dark mage.Water and earth would lay in the centrer water (H2O) next to air (so in the left centrer facing air.) and earth on the right centrer facing fire.

But my triangle was to small. (and a bit tired)

the nice thing about this is that you can make it as complex or easy as you want. it's classless since you can use all skills, but also place a name on "no class" like assassin warrior ... . A player with the intention to be a certain class can just follow the triangle while other players just do what they want and see were they come up.

Also I see it as a hybrid between & since it give direction like in DD (in BD the warrior tree and other trees got a bit confusing) while still maintaining a low level complexity to the skill like in BD. So no more one skill points things like sword accuracy, speed. the sword skill improves all of them.

Just some thing I came up with on a dull moment.

Ow yeah for ² please work out a good necromancer (dark attack mage) skill out like skeletons, golems, zombies. I like to play like a necromancer (please no time limit on summoned creatures) standing back while you send wave after wave of monsters to them (Zapp Branigan style). Let's say a limit of 15 summonings at one time. Except for those high level summoned creatures there can be only one of them each but low level (skeletons) can be summoned in high numbers (one strike of a high enemy would prolly kill 4 of them).

And how did you manage to develop all this stuff while still being drunk ?

Wow!!!! Morbo, I'm impressed.

You lost me a time or two.
And I had to go back and reread to get it right, but great job.

How long did it take you to come up with all of that? A whole minute.

I like it. Way to go.

Yep it is the one I was talking about 3 days ago

Well after the first day of partying I was drunk but I recuperated fast (made images and text (web server had trouble with ftp)).

The trouble started after the 2nd day of partying. not so much headache but more troubles with the stomach.

ps: You can add concentric circles from the center that represent the level lines.

Morbo:

It is good,i like the way how the classes are next to those which are similar to it.

Lady Rain is right when she said that altoutgh you have defualt classes and stats...you can make your own. should be like that.

Now i am going to hopefully confuses people even further.

The below is the skill system for weapons/shields only.

In my previous post about "complex" skills like those in i think that there should be no difference between using
one handed, two handed and "with shield."

Instead swords, axes and claws(???will they be in ?) will do slashing damage
daggers,spears,bows,x-bows do peircing damage
hammers,clubs do crushing damage.

So when you click on warrior-you have the option of slashing, curshing, peircing and special.

the first three have as bootstable the usual...speed,dammages,critical hits e.t.c

The fourth is based on what i call special weapons....

I.e those weapons who have different features.
E.g whips knock the enemies back
spiked chains cuase the enemy to fall to its feet and then get back up leaving you to attack it without fear of being attacked for a shor period of time.
Staffs causes you reflect damage back to the inflictor..both phyiscal and magical.
(Your character would do a small twirl of the staff...then this would happen)

i hope other people can thnk of other weapons and their special effects.

Now when you click on the "speical" you then get to choose the same bootstables except that deathblow would be replaced by special ability...where the ability is as stated above. depending on wich weaon type.

I have said before that "speed" should be a skill rather than a stat...but maybe the speed of swinging the weapon would be based on the stats of the weapon itself.
Then you could add charms to weapons which woul increase their speed and therefore initative.

Now coming to sields...if you want to use shields then this is the skill for you.
You can level up...blocking,reflect magical damage, holy power, resist curses.

Most of the above are self explantory...the holy power thing is that a small blast of fire would come out of your shield and thus would damage the enemy..like a fireball. As such this skill is based for paladins.
Indeed this makes the shield very interesting....the speed of the shields use will depend on the weapons wielded on the other hand...

being non-linear is essential in my view.
If the designers feel the need to add cinimatics...then i suggest cinematics are specific points during the game...rather like

Also can we please have it so that you dont need food to sleep??? as in .
And please bring back the usage of objects...i.e to pick a lock you need lockpicks...or to make potions..you need empty flasks????

Next time quests and dialogue.

So you meen there's no difference in fighting with a two-handed axe and a dagger? (If you didn't figure it out, I don't agree with this...)

Nice thoughts Tragic. I had even forgot the crushing weapons of BD (will have to play it again when my new PC is here). keep up the good work Tragic.

Btw I think the aura of command should be standard. It it illogical that a creature that you summon doesn't follow you.

[color:"red"] So you meen there's no difference in fighting with a two-handed axe and a dagger? (If you didn't figure it out, I don't agree with this...)

Übereil

[color:"yellow"] What i am attempting to do is not to make a distinction btween one handed and two handed weapons...in the sense that if you can use a one handed axe..then you can use a two handed axe. The stats of the weapon are a different matter.

I expect that the stats of a two handed axe to do more damage than a one handed one and i expect the stats of a one handed axe to be higher than a dagger
irrespctive of whether it peircing/slashing e.t.c...i think this is consistant with the stats of the weapons of and

Morbo:thanks for the thumbs up..your ideas are pretty good, well thought out themselves .a bit complicated for me..but stil good.

There's going to be an online multiplayer part, I think. Otherwise it would be pretty useless to discuss wherever we should have sencor in multiplayer chat or not...
