Hi friends!

I know that some of you are real talents on the PC. Since just a few days I´m member of a computer role playing guild. And I would like to surprise them with a new banner for the guild.

The name is "Guardian of Angels" (strange name)...

Could someone (Jang, Barta,...) I know you have some talent could give me a hint on how to create banners. I just haven´t tried it before and have no idea on how to do it and which programs I would need...

Thanks in advance for your input.

A hint? the sky is the limit.

Software, some vector drawing tool, you'd be able to use the banner in all sizes.
Adobe Illustrator is one.

Here's how it's done: You ASK Jang or Barta to MAKE you one <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />!

First thanks a lot for saying that i have talent on the PC. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />
But i am just a little beginner. I only know how to make very few things.
My wonderful banner is a present from Janggut.

For making your banner you need a graphic program.
The most known are PhotoShop, PaintShopPro, The Gimp.
The Gimp is a free program and Raze told somewhere in the forum that it is a good program.
There are many other graphic programs free or cheaper than PhotoShop.

In the case of my banner, Janggut used 2 pictures.
For the font he took a pic of a wall in the Citadel in Beyond Divinity then he added the 2 characters from the pic of the header of Beyond Divinity.

The program allows to insert text in the pic, like "Friends of Larian" at the top of the banner and "Serving potatoes to Divinity fans since presidency" at the bottom of the banner.

I am not sure but i think that he has drawn himself "Café Barta" in the center of the banner.

It's a very great work !

If i had to make a banner by myself i would do something a lot more simple.
I would choose only one pic for the font.
I would resize the pic with the program and then i would add some text in the picture.
With some imagination it is possible to make something nice.

If you are interested by this kind of things, try to make the banner by yourself.
You will be very proud for having made it all by yourself.

Okay i'll give it a try <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
1) download the try out version of PaintShop Pro
2) Take a Picture of your favourite Fantasy(?) Hero.
3) go to the Header Image > select resize> and make it the size you prefer (remember this works a little like a balloon, if you stretch (enlarge) it, it will become faded and vice versa
3)click on the Icon on the left hand side that has a big letter "A" on it and left click somewhere near the bottom left of the picture.
4)you will get a new screen with an empty space which you can use to type into ... say a word or a name like Bernhart (?)
5) if you highlight those words you can then enlarge the or reduce the size of the font or even use a different font.
6)Click ok and select the Move Tool (kinda looks like a four pointed arrow)
and move the text around till you have it where you want it
click file and use "Save As" give it a name and voila <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Now this is a very simplistic way of doing it, but theres a really good help file attached and well ... practice makes perfect.

Side note; there are a lot of other Graphics programs around, including Paint, that should already be installed on your PC as it is part of Microsoft, however PSP has by far the easiest learning curve.

Oh and if you would prefer, sent me the picture
culpa.mea@gmail.com and some idea of what you want and I'll give it my best shot <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

And keep loads of saves <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />. If you're allmost done, and screw up, you want saves to come back to. Just like in an rpg <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />.

I am very sad to announce that my Divinity homepage is dead.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" />

I used to have a free account at AngelTowns since more than one year.
For free i had a 50 Mo space, not any adds, not any pop-up.
I also had a private forum for talking with my friends.
It was great ! And i liked the name.

Recently AngelTowns decided to stop the free accounts saying that people used the free accounts for making pishing
(i am not sure about this word <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />).

AngelTowns has deleted my homepage without informing me <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" />

My Divinity site was not great but it was cool and i liked it.
It was my first homepage. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />
I have downloaded a copy of the site with HTTrack (Thanks a lot Alrik <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/XmasJump.gif" alt="" />) but i have to find another place and i have to rebuilt my homepage with new links.
For the moment i have too much work and i can't spend time for this kind of thing.

Well, Barta, at least you know it now. It's better than haveing your site being deleted while you think it's not (like it used to be. At least they could haver informed you!). Now you know of the problem, and can do something about it.

hey bern!

thanks for the compliments but there are many who are way way way better than i am; deathatthedoor, shyon, dragh, morbo, kiya, shantara, lady rain etc.....

& to say that barta is less talented is heresy. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" /> the new Pope likes Barta's fanpage so i think right now it's transferred to the Vatican website. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" /> will be available in English, French & Latin.

Barta again is right when she said that i used multiple pix to make that banner of hers. this means she knows the technique well. in photoshop, this technique is called layering or masking. it's just putting pix on top of one another in sequence & have some parts transparent so the illusion looks nice with perspective.

as for the words Cafe Barta; well Barta, u gave me too much credit & Al, u shouldn't be impressed. i was using a font (can't remember the name but i got it free from websites that give away fonts for free) to do that which later on i put on some effects to make it slightly 'neon' yet classical gold. the 'string' was only a line which also has the same effect with Cafe Barta.

again again, Barta is right when she said that the biggest reward in having your own banner is making it yourself. i was happy when i made banners for quite a few people here & i was even happier when they liked it.

bern, can u give me any links to pix that are related to the banner that u would like me to suggest in making? i cn give a bit of pointers but the rest is up to u; whether u want to build it yourself or u want me to do it for u.

somebody suggested Gimp, which is good as it has the same capabilities as photoshop but it's totally free. all u need is the layering capabilities & a big monitor (at least 17"). also imagination. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Thanks alot for all your inputs friends. Yesterday my networkcard broke, so I could not go online. So, sorry, for my late reply.

I´ll try it out at the weekend. During the week I don´t have the time to try and make a banner...
...wanted to try it out yesterday...

So thanx again.
