for those of you who are feeling nostalgic about the original diablo and have neverwinter nights, maybe you'll like this mod: http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Modules.Detail&id=3713

if the link does not work, you can just go to www.nwvault.com, then do a search in the modules section of the site. alternatively, you can just click on the top rated modules and the lord of terror mod will show up there. it's been one of the highest rated mods in the site and unsurprisingly, has been downloaded a lot. it has garnered a rating of 9.73/10 and has been awarded the hall of fame.

it does require the cep (community expansion project), but it's easy to download and install it anyway. i'm not sure if it requires both expansions though;i have the platinum edition and it runs smoothly.

my human fighter just cleared out the first level of the cathedral and is now ready to take on the butcher. i decided to hire a human monk (yes, there are henchmen!) to help me out because my memories of the butcher in the original diablo are not too plesant. boy, do i feel excited on seeing how the mod-builder made the butcher and king leoric using the nwn aurora engine. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

the mod-builder also put in andariel in the mod, so it's another thing to look forward to. the atmosphere of the mod is just terrific. the original score of diablo 1 is there, along with other custom music. the soundtrack file is a big download size, though, almost 100mb. i spent almost 2 hrs last friday night jut to download that thing on dsl connection. but it's optional; you can play the mod without the music. but for those of us who've played divinity, i think you'll agree w/ me that the music plays a big part in playing games. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

it's just amazing to see tristram in the nwn engine, in full 3d. looks wonderful. and all of the npc's are there: cain, griswold, ogden, gillan, pepin, adria the witch, and of course, wirt, who just stole 50 of my hard-earned the first time i talked to him. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

i hope you guys can play it and share your experiences here.

Quality post crusader <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

I'm pulling the CEP and module down now. Can't wait to play it. I actually still have Hellfire and Diablo installed.

I've just started playing. What a MOD!!! Everything is just the same (got the music pak too) as the original.

I haven't played much yet, (I have to go out <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" />) but I can tell now that this will be good. All I need now, is a good excuse to get rid of everybody in my life for the next few days...

I'll have to check that out after I finish the main NWN game (haven't started yet). I still have the Diablo box and manual, but have no idea where the CD is....

@ xAcesx: i'm crossing my fingers too that this mod will turn out as good as the reviews have indicated. mind you, i'm playing other mods too w/ very good storylines (shadowlords/dreamcatcher series, ancient heart series, defenders of the faith series, the rose of eternity among others), but i do go back to the diablo mod every now and then for a little bit of hack n' slash. or should i say for a lot of hack n' slash? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

it's just so exciting to find out how the original diablo characters have been transformed using the nwn engine. hmmm, i wonder how diablo looks like.

@ raze: if you've installed nwn already, maybe you can just play the mod to find out. you needn't have finished the oc to play the mod as you have to start w/ lvl 1 chars. besides the oc is only so-so. there are so many mods out there that have a better storyline than the oc. well, of course "the lord of terror: the diablo campaign" mod is all about hack n' slash as it says in the mod description. it doesn't pretend to be anything else. so if you're in the mood for a lot of monster bashing, then this mod may be for you.

by the way guys, you might want to check out the mod builder's website for tips on the mod. especially on the walkthrough, as the author has put in additional quests i think, like andariel. i forgot the link to his website; maybe you can just check on nwnvault for it. there's a link there to his website in the module description.

That's why I was planning to finish the oc before getting into mods. I have a couple other games I was going to play before NWN, though, and a few RL things to do before I can get to any of them.

I never finished the original Diablo (did about 3/4) because I just got bored with the hack and slash. The multi-player aspect was fun (until the novelty wore off), even if my brother killed me more times than the demons ever did. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" /> good to see u in these wild parts, raze. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

i may try it out. i guess this is one of the good things about NWN; the engine. it opens up possibilities & prolong the game life as well as increase the resale value of the game. most games would just die out soon after.

thanks for the heads up, crusader. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

howdy jang! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

@ raze: you should've finished diablo 1. the deeper you go into the cathedral, the better it gets. seeing as you've only done about 3/4's of it, i don't think you've reached archbishop lazarus's lair. it's one of the highlights of the game. very tough fight indeed, and a very creeepy atmosphere down there.

guys, if you're into the complex character building process of nwn (read: fond of "uber" builds), you might want to check out "the arena of champions" mod:

http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Modules.Detail&id=3991

it's a place where you test your builds by battling tough opponents. i've dl'ed it but haven't actually tested the mod yet, as it requires nwn patch 1.66, which i'm having problem downloading. but i've read in the walkthrough that the arena has a deathmatch mode, where you go vs various bosses including lucifer's mistress, baal the lord of destruction, and lord lucifer himself. as soon as you complete the deathmatch mode, you will unlock the holy way mode where you will take part in the war between the forces of light and darkness. that's as far as i've gone in the walkthrough. will post some more if i can actually test the mod.

i do use this mod for testing various char builds, though:

http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Modules.Detail&id=3704

"a novice to epic character maker mod", where you can also do battle against various opponents to test yourself. it's a simple mod, pretty easy to use. but there's a sidelight to it: it's a sort of a cheat also, since you can give yourself gold, exp, and buy items for your char. your char then can have the option to play the oc, sou or hotu. frankly, i never did that because i think it's plain & simple cheating. but hey, to each his own. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

jang, it's true. nwn is a very replayable game, maybe the most replayable among all the games right now. in fact, that's been a comment often repeated in nwvault.com. after having gone through the oc and all its expansions, i have already become tired of playing nwn, until i discovered the modules in the vault site. there's just something for everyone there. for example, i loved icewind dale ii but never got to play icewind dale 1 and its expansion, heart of winter. so what did i do? i searched nwvault for that and came up with a mod "heart of winter". a lot of custom items from heart of winter are there i've read. haven't really gone that far into the mod yet, but the atmosphere is just so icewind dale-ish.

i wish divinity 2 will have this level of replayability. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

Everything you're saying crusader is a testament to the skills of the modding community and the unrivalled quality of the NWN engine and tools.

I said in a review (on my site) that NWN rates highly for the toolset on its own. It really is amazing how powerful it is, and how easy it is to start learning it.

This is the future of gaming i think, and the volume of interest is something other developers should be taking to heart. The first person shooters have their modded maps, but some mods are quite literally add-on games for games.

It's real value for money too.
