The gravestones in the bee/wasp garden are a reference to Larian's first RPG, The Lady the Mage and the Knight, which was killed by the publisher before it was finished.

Well, not exactly right. I wouldn't say "killed".

Larian & Attic split in kind of quarrel, and Larian had to quickly invent something new ("Project C").

Technically, LMK was still with Attic, but Attic went out of business. It doesn't exist today anymore, as I learned from a serious source.

So, the only ones who have the remains could be the employees of Attic - or members of Larian studios.

One reason which made Attic & Larian split was that there were many requests for changes made - too many perhaps.

You can find more information here :

I don't know whether there exists a translation of the text.

And this is my thread, explaining things as I had understood them a bit :
History of the Lost Kingdom books

You can find some remains of LMK on Marian's own site :

Thank you for that link! Very interesting, there are some great monster designs to be found.

You know what would be kind of neat in DD2 if it's being created in the same world as DD....having your character run into some of the possible outcomes/consequences of DD...
Maybe the kid you rescued from the vampire set up shop and becamea good doctor...
Maybe that massacre of mind-controlled soldiers created an area of restless undead....
Maybe the wholesale slaughter of lizard people left the survivors very, very bitter...
Maybe the little village of Aleroth (which was abandoned and empty at the end of DD) is revived and considered the most blessed of all places to live...
Maybe there's a whole new breed of talking, polka-dotted boar living in the dark forest....
I'd love to hear everyone else's ideas to how some of those storylines could result in the future.....

Personally, I *expect* these things ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Plus, I would like to see some Raanaar refugees from Nemisis ... Or even Raan herself fighting against the Damned One !

To Raan, representing honour among other things, it must be *extremely* insulting to be treated like this by ... well, you know who. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> A Goddess representing honour must be *very* angry about this kind of treason, I think ...

The boy who had been resued from the vampire ... maybe he becomes a vampire slayer ? Sounds natural to me, regarding his experiences ...

A Vampire, fearing him on the other hand might found a society of vampires who swear not to kill humans ... a bit similar to the society found in newer Terry Prtatchett books ... This kind of society might be the last way for a vampire to evade the "Vampire Slayer" ... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

I also expect this. Somewhere in my article "the secret race" I stated that Aleroth - so I think - once must've been in possession of *all* races in Rivellon - plus, maybe nowadays of a Raanaar, I think. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> would be a nice bonus, I think. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

What I'd like to see a bit more are dark-skinned humans. I don't know any RPG where there are many of them, and I think, there should be more of them, at least for more variety.

1 very important thing, let spells stay INSTANT CAST!!! (or at least almost instant) not as in for example WoW or so wich you'll have to wait a few seconds after casting the spell.
I think this is one of the things that makes the fast gameplay of DD very good. I see instant casting in much of the older RPG games and i think its a really big shame companies leave this.

Anyone of the Larian team can confirm this or something plz <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> ?

thnx, grttz, thadivine

I like having corpses rise from seemingly no-where, but i think we should expand this theory.

E.g in the darkforest we could have say beings who were imprisioned by a powerful mage becuase they kept cutting down trees.

So when you come close to these trees a spirit would climb out of the tree and attack you.
Now these beings have the ability to bypass armour..so its as if you were fighting without any armour at all.

Not to stop there but we could also have a region in the dark forect where they are mountians and the boulders themselves turn into these rock beings. A bit similar to beond divinities earth elementals.
Their special trick is to be able to reduce the durability of your weapon by 1/4..

Or maybe Giants/ogres could do that.

It would be fun to see a Giant Heavy orc fight an ogre..

Lets say both of them are wanderers returning home and have an argument.. they start fighting..if they spot you you both turn on you, if not they carry on fighting until they die.

Thus a war will break out between the two races.

To develop more on what tragic had to say, the game would be more exciteing if things did just kind of pop up/out of no-where. And also, for a big part of the game Divine Divinity, the orcs were ar war with the humans. However, there was very little fighting between them. It was just me going and killing all the orcs and all the soldiers in the tent camp. So the war ended, with me killing both sides.

I once suggested (long time ago, before Beyond Divinity even) a huge battlefield. Scores of humans would fight against hordes of Orcs and you'd just be one of the soldiers involved. That would settle the conflict. I guess this made sense using the Divine Divinity engine, but with the new 3D one that would probably not be possible (major lag and all that).

MacBeth i agree with you, but i think that there can be 2 options.

One is (as you suggest) you are a fairly decent fighter say level 15 or so.. and enter a war where behind you you have healers which heal the troops( and you).

If you kill enough of the enemy(say 40 orcs) the battle is won. Indeed that could be a quest which you must complete.

After you complete that...at level say 35 another war breaks out where this time you will have a small amount of troops at your disposal but will have to wander from place to place becuase this war is more of a skirmish war(like when you meet mitox for the first time and hs troops are attacked).

For my item interaction is important...so remeber those rotten food which you can make posion?

Well assume now that some bloke called Rafstor wrote a book about how if you combine rotten food with a morat and pestle you get a paste. This paste needs to be contained in a jar.

If you add coloured flowers(say a red flower) you will get a red dye which you can use to make 1 piece of your equipment red.

So you can choose the coulor of the dye and it would be a shame to waste all those rotten fruit!

Of course if you combine a rope and pieces of wood you can get a ladder. Good for spying purposes or a way to walk those tiresome mountains.

Meat needs to be cooked before you can eat it!!
Didnt your mother tell you that?

So you need a sauspan or a pot to cook it. You also need a fire.

To make a fire you just need a tinderbox and some wood which can be found in most places.

You can also purchase a tent but if you camp outside there is a possibility of a npc/monster disurbing your sleep and hence you may not be fully healed when you are sleeping.

There is one thing i would like to see.

The same equipment except for
1. Introduce a cape(dosnt have to do aything,it will just look nice)
If you want to wear it.
2. Have body armour include protection for the arms. OR have a seperate armour for the arms i.e bracers.
3. Instead of leggings have bottoms. Leggings only cover from the knee down and not the knee up to the body. Or you could have skirts.
(I rather like the knights in the fighters guild bottoms..nice steel plated ones).

Helmets need not be so traditional..if you want to play a thief your face will be covered and so you could have various head garment instead of a helemt..e.g

silk wrappings
Durability 6/6
5 % chance of blocking
armour 15
+3 to agility
+ 1 to embrace shadows
Req agility 25

Or if your a wizard you would want a wizards hat <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mage.gif" alt="" />
Nice and pointy.

I like some of your suggestions, but I think some are too elaborate. For instance: the cooking. Nice in theory, but if your character had to gather wood, light a fire, put a kettle or frying pan on the fire and cook the food every time, who would do it? It's cosy and it would be realistic, but come on: something like that becomes plain annoying the tenth time you do it, not to mention the hundreth time.

Lol.. good and fair point.

Althougth we have healing potions if you prefer a quicker solution.

I think that if you go all the way to cook etc and when you eat it, you gain full haelth irrespective of what health you are.

I.e cooking a meal doesnt give you a specific hitpoint, just heals you completely whereas a healing potion heal instantaneously but heal a specific amount.

One thing I would like to return for Divine Divinity(and was sorely missed by me from Beyond Divinity) is the character having speech. I enjoyed hearing my character talk out loud at various parts of the game. Hopefully you would get the same voice(as the one that I used for my female Survivor was a good one). <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Here's my thoughts on what i loved about Div and what should remain:
--------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Just one hero - no parties or such - for some reason i find having a party runnin round after you really cumbersome and iv even tried playing some games
(like neverwinter nights (impossible) and dungeon siege (hard but do-able) with just one character because of this.

2) Free-Form - i like being able to go anywhere i please and do side quests in any order i like - it adds to the replayability factor.

3) Teleporter stones - or some similar method of transportation - it was fun using the stones to help me thieve peoples shops/houses - especially so i could get that big new shiny sword that i couldnt otherwise afford

4) Free-Form Character Skills/Attributes - i love the idea that i can play a barbarian slayer but also use some magic if i wanted to - but i wasnt forced to use certain skills or limited to anything.

5) Lots to see and lots to do - i like the vastness of it, but it's also good that the villages arent too big - too easy to get lost/miss out stuff if they're too big.

6) The humour! - Granted some of the humour is hit and miss but i love little things you can find out via reading or exploring that just make you laugh - examples from other games like morrowind are where you find a journal of a dead adventurer that is obviously a homage to Indiana Jones.

7) Alchemy! Making potions and upgrading your weapons was also kewl. I'd like to see this kept and improved upon if possible.

I think that's it for now.
