The penticle is not the symbol of the devil. Many people belive that, and it is also associated with black magic (even in the <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> games). It is actually the symbol of an old religion that worshipped a goddess. You know how women were treated bad in most religions and men were dominant? Well in that old feminist religion that worshipped the goddess, it was the other way around.

It's kind of the same thing with the Swastika. Now everybody associates it with the Nazi's of course, but it's actually an ancient symbol of the sun and of peace.

The Swastika was used even by Romans. Here in Cologne there is a floor mosaique of a roman house that has it.

The Swastika has two forms : One left-turned, and one right-turned. I read that the Nazis used the "evil" form of it.

The Pantagram is said to be an ancient symbol of protection, but I can't verify that (actually I don't want to).

I don't know much about such symbols.

There is also a legend that says that pentagrams are also known as "the knot without an ending". It's because you have to draw it in one stroke. Other names are Gobelincross, Pentalpha, Witchfoot, Devilstar and Druïdsfist.
There is an old English song: "Green Grow the Rushes, O!" that reffers to the pentagram in this one line: "Five is the symbol at your door". That means, that in the old days, people used to hang this 5pointed star above their doors and windows for protection.
The symbol has different meaning over differetn cultures as well.
For the Gnostici is was the "Flaming Star"
For the Druids is was the symbol of Divinity
for the Egyptians it was the symbol of the undergrounded mother's lap (how do you say that?)
