If you are very, VERY fast, you can save the kitty in the town ! I managed it ... and it was quit hard. But it is manageable !

Thanks for the tip Alrik, I'll give it a shot!

Now that I know the Orcs target the cat, I'll be prepared next time.

In a new game I started now the dogs are all hostile to me. I had not killed a dog and went to the blue boar in after the healers moved there. I wanted to talk to the healers but a dog was attacking me. I did not want to kill it so left but it followed me and then a second dog joined it. As I was only level 4 and did not have any stamina potions I had no choice but to kill the dogs because that early in the game two dogs would have killed me if I didn't fight back. I just think its sad that you can't interact with the Main NPC's in the game in what should be a safe setting without being attacked by dogs. It makes me think that whoever wrote the program does not like dogs or cats. Just because of this I would have to mark the game down because I really do not what to play trhough the game killing dogs.

In all my games the dogs would automatically be hostile if I'd go anywhere near them! So I just figured "It doesn't matter, it's just a computer game" and in fact, it's good to kill the dogs, as they give you meat. But yes, I hope they can fix that somehow and make the dogs as docile as the cats.

I have had over half my games where the dogs did not attack me and a couple games where they did. I think its just random, like maybe each game has a % chance of the dogs being friendly. Not sure. If I play the beginning enough times I might see a pattern. It could be triggered by some small event.

For example. The last game I played the dogs were friendly but There was just one dog, the one named Lar that attack me (The one in the Blue boar Inn). I remeber Raze saying that if you go to the Dwarven village before you go to the Blue Boar inn that the dog Lar is in the back room instead of the dwarf who want to give you a gem.

In this game where the dogs are hostile I wetn to the blue Boar Inn 1st and talked to the dwarve in the back room and just as I got outside a dog chased me and then another joined it. Its possible that this is the scenario that determines whether dogs are friendly or hostile.

I suppose I could confirm it be saving before I go to either the village or the Blue Boar Inn and seeing what the dogs do after I try both orders a few times. I'll save this experiment for when I get real bored some time.

edit- also when Lar is in the game, I do not attack him but leave and he doesn't follow me. Then the doags are still friendly except for him. If I killed Lar its likely the other doags might then be hostile as well.

I don't use any meat from the dogs, it seems a bit wierd. Like when the kitty in Aleroth got killed and didn't pick up the meat. That would be cruel. There should be an option to bury the cats and dogs 9or creamate) and have a funeral in a pet cemetary.

Yeah, or cremate them and then have the ashes compressed into a diamond ring, I imagine that would add a whole new meaning to "ring of the dog" or "cat's ring".

Yeah, my first time through I accidently killed a cat at some point, (never noticed it) then didn't like having to kill them the rest of the way through. In Verdistis (which seems to be infested with cats) I eventually put poison skin on for the little buggers. What's almost more disturbing is that when they die, they leave meat behind...that you can eat...Hmmm

Well, in Indonesia some of the old tribal cultures did (and still do) eat dog meat! Of course I've never tasted it, and I don't think I intend to... grin

P.S Alrik was right! YOU CAN SAVE KITTY! grin I just ran and mashed all the orcs with my singing blade (very good blade, I once had one that was doing 140 something-187 damage plus life, mana drain levels 4 & 5 and frost level 3) and then after the massacre was over, shouted "HOORAY!" grin So yes all that to say, thanks a lot Alrik, the Forum would be a very different place without you!
