With the joining of Meqon and Ageia it makes me wonder if <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" />² will support the Ageia PhysX-card to calculate the physics. And if it does, how much of detail and experience will be lost if you don't have a PhysX-card.
Because as it stands now you got 2 major players in the physics business.
Ageia who works on a hardware solution (more money for the gamer to buy that card). But if you don't have that card your CPU needs to take over the load. But if you do have the card it takes over all physics calculations. And the engine is free for developers.
Havok that has a software solution by having physics calculated by the graphic card. So the load is divided between the GPU and the CPU. But the Havok engine does cost a bit for the developers.
Now I think Larian payed a hefty price for the meqon engine. But since it is taken over by Ageian who's engine is free. It makes me wonder what will happen? Since I think the Havok solution will win out over Ageia (100 - 200 € for a PhysX-card!! Sure I'll buy it ... When pigs fly in a frozen over hell)
